Good Afternoon South Carolina!

Is anyone having a kudzu problem? I am having a kudzu problem. I have been told to get a goat. I do not necessarily want said goat. I have 5 fur people letting me live with them now, and can only imagine living under the dictatorship of a goat.

I am also having a wild dog problem. There are two wild dogs that roam the woods behind my house. The problem is when I take my doggies out to run in the woods, they attack my sweetbabypuppydoggy.
They don't bother my other lil guy. Just the baby of the family. I do not know what to do. So, far he seems to be able to defend himself, with his Mom (me) at his side, shooting them with a water gun and yelling, which doesn't really bother them apparently. They focus on my baby, Apollo, a Dobermann.
He is sitting under the desk right now! Where my feet go, or rather where they are supposed to go. He's a big babysmootchypuppykins! Only 91 pounds and still growing!!!

Afternoon Janet,

I saw your post about how to rid your home of kudzu. Well, it seems there isn't any tried and true cure for the vine that grows a mile a minute...lol. Looked it up, and this is what I found...

"In eighteen years of research, Dr. Miller has found that one herbicide actually makes kudzu grow better while many have little effect. Miller recommends repeated herbicide treatments for at least four years, but some kudzu plants may take as long as ten years to kill, even with the most effective herbicides."

The goat might be cheaper!! lol.

As for the wild dogs, I would suggest calling the Mecklenburg Co. Animal Control. Tell them your problem and ask if they can send someone out.

Now, do I have time to travel 15 minutes and retrieve my manual pages???......nah......

I'm going to type in orange today in celebration of the harvest/pumpkin season. Love that pumpkin pie. Pumpkin muffins. Pumpkin bread. Mmmmmmmmmmmm........

Janet, I'm sorry to hear of your kudzu and critter problems. I'm a major dog lover myself and have shown and trained and coursed and loved them for decades and I can easily imagine myself in your position. I wish I could tell you where to get it at but there is a product I've seen in catalogs that is a scaled-down cattle prod and is supposedly very effective in situations like yours - the dog being "prodded" receives a very unpleasant but harmless shock and the dog learns to avoid the situation which got him the shock. Not my favorite or preferred method of training (I go for positive reinforcement myself), and I've never used anything like that, but it may work if you can get close enough to the attacking dog to use the device. I would also definitely call the local animal control, perhaps they can put out some traps and take care of the problem. On a kudzu note, I had a friend from BC in Canada on the phone a few years ago who said to me "I hear there's this plant called kudzu and it does a really great job of covering bare ground, would you recommend it?" He didn't think it funny when I started laughing hysterically, and I told him that if he wanted to be responsible for the start of British Columbia being covered in kudzu that I wouldn't help him. I went down the road (this was when I still lived in SC) and took a photo of a house entirely covered in kudzu and sent it to him. Needless to say, he didn't go get any of it. And quite honestly, in your case, I don't know that a goat would be able to take care of the problem either. The people I know who have had the most luck in keeping it back have to be super vigilant and they are ALWAYS out in their yard looking for starting places and digging down to try to get some of the root out. They've managed to *barely* keep it back, and it's a major job to do just that... and they've not found anything that will kill it.

Oh... not much in the way of job news here. One place had a job opening that they said they were going to send my resume to... and the other place said they have no jobs at all. And no calls today. So... unemployment is still rampant here

Finally get to sleep at 2 am cuz apparently I took the cats' fave sleeping spots (the WHOLE bed).

4am wake up to a HUGE CATerwalling on top of me. I CATapulted outa da bed so as not to get in the middle of all the hissing. Freaked both cats out but they started it. *pout* . What a CATastrophe! I'll be CATatonic all day. LOL

Good morning all,

Its early for me this am. "Waving Hello back across I85 to Janet!!"
Well, folks I don't have the easiest of task ahead of me this am.
About a month ago, I rescued a puppy from an abusive situation.
Vet checks were done and all was ok. Well, over the weekend the puppy became very ill. A rush visit to the emergency vet and she has been in the hospital being treated for parvo. Now, I have to pick her up because they close at 8am and find a vet who will be will to work with me on payment arrangements. Total cost of treatment is going to run close to $1200. I have already put in almost half of that now.
So, folks send up some prayers that I will have some success in finding a vet who will be willing to work with me on her treatment.

Sorry for the bad news this early in the am, but its weighing heavily on me at this moment.
