Mother Dozens of People Remember Sean Kennedy
>photo<
June 3, 2007 07:12 PM EDT GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC--Sunday night friends and family gathered to remember an Upstate teenager whose murder is being investigated as a possible hate crime. They attended a vigil at Piazza Bergamo in downtown Greenville. Dozens of people lit candles, trying to bring awareness to the hate crime problem.
Last month, 20 year old Sean Kennedy died after being punched outside Brew's in Greenville County. Kennedy was gay and witnesses say the suspect, Stephen Moller, made comments about Kennedy's sexual orientation before punching him.
For the first time, FOX Carolina talked to Kennedy's mother who say's she never thought anyone could hurt her son because he was such a caring person.
"Sean was very proud of who he was. Sean loved life. He embraced people. He was compassionate. And he's done so much. I couldn't stay mad at him very long, if you look at his smile...all he had to do was smile at me," said Elke Kennedy.
Sean's mother went on to tell us that she had many dreams for her son when she was pregnant with him. When she saw 700 people show up to his memorial service, she knew he had fulfilled them all.
"You know what else I found, those hopes and dreams I had for my son, being a leader, being non-judging being compassionate, loving people; he met all of those dreams and hopes and he did it in only 20 years," said Elke.
The FBI is working with the U.S. Attorney's office to determine whether this will be an official hate crime investigation.
Elke Kennedy Want's To Toughen the Hate Crime Laws
Witnesses say before Sean Kennedy was attacked at Brew's in Greenville County, the suspect made comments about Kennedy being gay. Kennedy's mom says she was so proud of her son.
"When Sean told me he was gay, he said, "Mom if you don't want to love me anymore, that's okay." And I looked at him and said, "I will never stop loving you no matter what you do." I was proud of him for who he was and for standing up for what he believed in," said Elke.
Kennedy's mother decided to take action after doing some research and discovering some loopholes in the hate crime laws.
"When I started looking into what laws are out there I found federally and in SC there are hate crime laws, but they don't include attacks on sexual orientation or disabilities for that matter, but it does include attacks on dogs, cats, horses," said Elke.
Kennedy's family wants to do something about the hate crime loopholes. They've set up a website www.seanslastwish.com. You can go there to make donations to help the family with their fight to strengthen the laws. They are also selling bracelets and proceeds will go toward the fight. Rally Planned To Push For Hate-Crime Laws
Sun Jul 1, 7:05 AM ET
An Upstate mother said that she hopes a rally in Columbia on Sunday afternoon will draw attention to the need for hate-crime laws.
A rally and candlelight service are planned for 3:30 p.m. in honor of Sean Kennedy, who was killed in May outside a Pelham Road nightclub.
Kennedy died after being punched and then hitting his head on the parking lot
pavement.
Police said they believe Kennedy was killed because he was gay.
Hate-crime laws currently before state legislators and the U.S. congress would provide protection for people based on their gender, sexual orientation or disability.
Stephen Andrew Moller, 18, is charged with murder in connection with Kennedy's death.
Greenville County deputies said Moller made a comment about Kennedy's sexual orientation before they said he delivered the punch that lead to his death.

Hello to all the South Carolina Butches and Femmes!
South Carolina Pride week kicks off tomorrow with the Pride Pageant and concludes with festival and parade next Saturday, September 22.
I understand Elke Kennedy, mother of Sean Kennedy - the young gay man who was murdered earlier this year in Greenville, will be there. I had the chance to meet her and her family at Pride Charlotte last month. What a remarkable woman. Stop by the Sean's Last Wish booth if you can - you'll be glad you did.
Hope to see you in Columbia and want to wish you all a Happy Pride!

This year the festival, which will be open on Saturday from 10:30am to 7:30pm and Sunday from 11am to 5pm, will be located on South Main, from the Peace Center to Camperdown, (and in the center of two additional events: Southern Exposure, Greenville’s newest Food, Wine and Music Festival and the season opener of the South Carolina Children’s Theatre).

k had to put this one out here for ya jus
this lady of long golden locks native born ws sitting near the waters edge one day when a fish jumped from the cool bliss of the wet wonder and beconed the lady," please come inot my murky depths the fish pleaded with a wink and a smiling charm.
the lady put her feet iot the swells of warm bliss and then took another step closer to the deeper edge. when all of a sudden the fish became a screaming dragon.. the lady screamed and felt weak in the knees her mind racing heart pounding to heights of terror she had not known. and in the distance world she heard a voice saying im coming my fair maiden.
out of the woods sprang a cowboi wiht a golden hat and a steel lasso. she swunger her lasso till it wrapped so tightly around the dragons neck it began to choke the beast to sleep.
as the beast lay unconscience the cowboi. came to the fair madien n wrapped hys arms around her and carried her safly to shore.
moral,..
its all a fish story.. lol

Hello from Flotown! Okay, I am back after a long hiatus. Any folks in Pee Dee area of SC?
Hello Newbie Butch from sc!
Loving you
is my path.
I never think of the future
in terms of where
I'm going -
only in terms of where
we'll go together.
Loving you
is my peace.
It's the quiet satisfaction
I feel every time
your eyes tell me
that I've listened to you,
made you happy,
loved you well.
Loving you
is my certainty,
a complete confidence
that I'd do anything
to give you
the same peace
and walk the same path
with you forever.
By Keely Chace.
~~~ I come back to this thread to show appreciation to where it all started. 8 years is not nearly enough time to love and explore with you. Happy Anniversary my love.
