I will be there with my 16-year old daughter in tow near the end of June. I have not spent much time at that end of the state and was just looking for folks that would be nice to become friends with. I only know a few in real time from there..and it has been a bit over three years.

Are you originally from the Carolinas? If not, I think you will like it. I do not know my way around the towns at that end of the state, but I know the Midlands well.

Hello, I see we'll be passing moving vans..... No, I'm originally from NY...right now I'm in Charlotte, NC. My father is in Greenville, so I figured I wouldn't be totally alone and lost...which for me wouldn't be too bad...lol...Midlands...would that be closer to Charleston? I will probably make contact with a gay orginzation- once I arrive. Spartenburg is approx. 20 minutes away from Greenville...if that...I believe all of the road construction is finally finished...anyway talk to you soon...

Midlands is the area of the State Capitol. Columbia - Richland county. However, we will relocate to Greenville in July.

National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Praises South Carolina Activists

June 3, 2004, Washington, D.C.- Despite feverish last-minute efforts,
the South Carolina state legislature ended its regular session today
without approving a proposed state constitutional amendment to prohibit
the recognition of same sex marriage and any other form of partner
recognition outside of marriage. The measure passed the state House of
Representatives on March 17 by 93 to 7, but stalled in the Senate.

"This is a major victory for the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender community," said Matt Foreman, the Task Forces Executive
Director. "It shows that determined leaders can win against incredible
odds. Every gay American is in debt to Linda Ketner and Warren
Redman-Gress of the Alliance For Full Acceptance (AFFA), the South Carolina
Equality Coalition and the South Carolina Gay & Lesbian Pride Movement for
their courage and tenacity."

The South Carolina gay community united to thwart the proposed
amendment, raising a warchest, hiring a well-regarded lobbyist, and mounting a
sophisticated constituent pressure campaign focused on the State
Senate.

In the closing hours of the session, the House of Representatives
repeatedly attached the anti-marriage amendment to several unrelated pieces
of legislation in the hopes of forcing a senate vote. These efforts
failed for a number of reasons, including a filibuster by one senator
objecting to a gubernatorial appointment.

With today's win, South Carolina became the ninth state in which
efforts to pass anti-marriage constitutional amendments have failed in
legislatures this year. Other states include Alabama, Arizona, Idaho,
Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, and Minnesota. Anti-gay forces have succeeded
in placing anti-marriage constitutional amendments on the ballot in six
states - Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Utah.
Another seven states are at risk to have an amendment on the ballot.

goal is Independence from USA.

Another so-called "Christian" organization is moving to South Carolina
to "re-establish Godly, constitutional government".
ChristianExodus.org has a timeline on to "reacquire their constitutional rights" and
eventually to seek independence from the United States if "grievances
occur".

Their protests include abortion, "sodomite marriage", public displays
of the 10 Commandments, etc.

I left SC at 1:30am three Sundays ago with a police escort and all I can say is:

As for me...my happiness lives and breathes within me everyday and that won't change regardless of where I live. Being in love has only helped that inner joy grow stronger. That is what I will hold on to as I make the transition from the big city (raised in downtown Atlanta) to the quiet beauty of the country.

As I'm learning in terms of country distance, Greenville isn't that far from us. Kris and I actually make it down there about once a month or so. I may even be down there for the weekend at the end of the month.
