I am not saying this thread will be any different. I mean I hope Butches and Femmes meet on this thread and then feel a sense of community here as well, but for now, maybe we could just start with those of us who are unattached and would like to meet others in the same circumstance.

Common interests? Yes I would have to say on some level this has to be as it wouldnt work other wise. Oh boy. I don't think my list is SO long, but there are a few dealmakers/dealbreakers, some kind of silly-sounding, some more profound, all for serious:

* Intelligent and intellectually curious.
* Open-minded; I'm a little nerdy/quirky in personality and interests, genderqueer, which can be weird and complicated, and kind of politically active, and I don't tend to get on very well with people who are too apolitical or too blindly wedded to mainstream/pop culture, even the queer version of it. I also really appreciate uniqueness in other people. Any kind of bigotry, and I mean ANY kind, is a very big dealbreaker.
* Passionate about something, whether it's work, school, a hobby, a movement, just something that lights her up and gives her a sense of enthusiasm. People without this just seem boring, bland, uninteresting.
* Kind. Compassionate. Optimistic. Interested in making the world a better place for everyone in some way.
* Able and willing to be around cats, since I had the girls first and we come as a package deal.
* Does not smoke or use drugs.

I think it's always important to have some common interests and some areas of interest that are different, which you can either learn to appreciate from one another or which give each of you something that's your own to enjoy in the times that you're not together. Common values, though, those are essential.

Proximity?

Yes, this is important to me, especially since I don't own a car (I live in the city and it wouldn't be practical to have one, since there's nowhere to park). I got over doing the strictly-online or long-distance thing a while ago - I personally much prefer to be able to see someone regularly when getting to know them. The communication's all different in person, and I think the aspects of it you miss long-distance are some of the most critical.

LOL, I would hope that would be part of any good relationship. It's not the first thing I'm looking for, but if it isn't EVER going to happen, then we're not dating, we're friends.

I have taken care ofm y mother sicne I was 8 and everyone else was put first. i Never learned how to put me first. And with wonderful friends and some other amazeing ppl.
