so glad to see you still kicking righteous ass.![]()
i'm thinking of building a marionette theatre and producing little plays in it. have any of you tried to do that? i'd love some tips on making it work.
Ok, since THAT went over so well, i've turned my inquisitive gaze to something completely different.
MQoQ, you might be interested in my study of really GAY graphic design -- in the proud tradition of both DYXPOLOITATION! and Alien Thrift Store.... i'd love your comments on it!![]()

I received two artists calls this weekend specifically geared to we sexual deviants. Both these shows look great, so get it in gear!
Here's the info:
The Mondo Homo Art Show is upon us again, and this is the OFFICIALcall for work. The title of this year's show is MONDO-POLITICO. We are trying something a little different this year and asking people to create a work for the show and it's theme. Please put your best ART FAG foot forward and let's make it really shine this year. We want it to be about what it means being queer and political, which is broad and open to many interpretations, but can also spawn some great work. If you have something you have already created that would fit the show, that is great as well.
The show will be at Eyedrum and will open on Thursday May 21st and run through Sunday June 21st. We have the entire back gallery which is really exciting for us. The ceilings are extremely high and I would really like to see some large works to fill up the space.
Please make your submissions digitally to dray.hellonearth@comcast.net. You should submit a jpeg or tiff with a resolution of 300 ppi at about 8" x 10". DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS MONDAY MAY 11TH.Notification of selections will be made on Friday May 15th and we will need your pieces in hand no later than Monday May 17th.

Thanks for the encouraging words! i knew you'd support it!
i made the website using Wordpress. As you probably know, "table-based" sites aren't viewable by all these newfangled devices the kids have invented, so using Wordpress is a way to avoid those whole problems. The learning curve was steep...(as you are well aware, though, i LIKE curves.....) but in the end Wordpress (or Drupal, the next wave) saves hours of work.
Rock on!![]()
Hey guys
I have a question for you. I haven't touched oil paints since I was in school and I thought I'd like to give it a go again. I've got a few acrylic canvases from my Uni days that I'd like to recycle. Is there anything wrong with painting over an acrylic painting with oils?
Hope everyone is having a lovely Easter!
Hey Urs!
Yes I believe you can though I don't know the long term effects decades down the line.
I think the thing is you can paint over acrylics with oil... but you can't paint over oils with acrylics.
Also... I would (if the surface of the acrylic painting is very glossy) scuff it very lightly with like a #000 sandpaper (very fine) then wiping the dust with a cloth just to give something to grip... though it's probably not necessary.
Hope that helps

A video I helped Sharon Bridgforth make is showing in NYC!
Sharon Bridgforth at Dixon Place in
S'Kin Deep
S’Kin DEEP is a soulful dance refracting notions of heritage, beauty, tribal energy and ancestral memories. Baraka de Soleil / D UNDERBELLY’s newest project summons up indigenous physical & ambient sensations from Africa, Australia & the Americas, as SK’in DEEP interweaves a powerful landscape of spirited loose-limbed bodies energized by jazz theater pioneer Sharon Bridgforth’s poetic text & innovative percussionist Jmy Lopez’s otherworldly rhythms.
Fridays & Saturdays, May 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 & 23* @ 7:30pm
Tickets: $20 (general), $15 (student/senior)
At Dixon Place (NYC)
Read up on Sharon Bridgforth (she of The Bull Jean Stories):
the bull-jean stories is based on the idea of circular Life/the transmigration of Souls. using traditional storytelling and non-traditional verse to chronicle the course of lovve returning in the Life-times of one wo’mn-lovvn-wo’mn named bull-dog-jean/the bull-jean stories give cultural documentation and social commentary on African-American herstory and survival. events pivot from the Heart of bull-jean, but the Work is about community, past times and Spiritual binding. “my intent is to serve as griot-anthropologist much like langston hughes and his jesse b. simple stories and zora neal hurston/preserving & passing on memory/language/humor and Truth”. Though each story stands fully alone/together they herald the fluid connecting power/NOMMO (Life force) that is the Spirit of African-American people.
Have any of you used the "promote" feature in Etsy? Did it make a difference?
i believe musicfemme did this once... you should get ahold of her and ask... if it helped or not.

Hi Everyone -
My visual art seems to often "fountain forth" in streams -- (often seen as rants, sadly) -- about what drives me nuts, either in a good way or a bad way, about a topic. MQOQ i know you know what we're talking about on this....
Anyway. This summer my innocent victim is "gay graphic design" -- and I've been having great fun (in almost near isolation) devising a field guide of sorts to "gay design" -- so that homos can tell if the event advertised on the graphic is going to be "gay" or "gay".
I'd love to have more input from you "sm-artsy pants" on this thread! Cheers!

Got a question...
Any thoughts, recommendations, reservations about digital tablets? Anyone have experience with one they really like or one they really hated?
I appreciate any information.
Thanks!
Thank you Musicfemme, sorry i haven't been around since i made that annoucement.
