Love the moment. Flowers grow out of dark moments. Therefore, each moment is vital. It affects the whole. Life is a succession of such moments and to live each, is to succeed.

At that point you aren't taking in, you are re working the garment.

The pants i love so much are just a straight leg and really rather plain but that is what keeps them in style. Mom (single mom on a budget) taught us we could only have 3 items of trendy clothing. Our family is also big on trading clothes. I have a box full of clothes right now waiting on tea with my cousin for her to take to the next branch in the family.
K gotta correct myself. What I ment to say was... going up or down 3 sizes is a reasonable price for the most part. When you go outside those 3 sizes that is when the price starts to go up because you will need to re work the garment instead of just taking in or letting out. Darts need to be moved, pockets need to be moved.. even buttons may need to be re worked as well.

good part about coming in the thread close to bed time, I can type more since regular pain meds are already on board. bad part.... brain is already in bed and fingers are on autopilot.

OR work out naked.

oh yeah that's the other thing... at least for me is that I would sacrifice a tofu effigy for bras and panties that would fit for more than a month without sliding the hell off! I would definately add new bras and panties to the treats section. you will need them.

Way back when I worked in a women's clothing store that carried sizes 4-28. there were a few ladies that were part of a work out group would come in to try on clothes. Every time they came in and needed a smaller size, I would ask them to say those sweet little words "Miss? I need a smaller size." and then we all clapped and cheered. Maybe if you are having a bad week plan a little window shopping/encouragement trip. Saying that they needed a smaller size helped encourage them almost as much as counting lbs and inches.

keep going! We all believe in you!

and ps don't ask me about losing the weight i have. it is a direct result of getting off a bad med combo, getting on a good med combo including anti seizure meds that do tend to suppress appetite, and having a stomach that putting anything into it is like kicking a 50 year old live grenade... some times it blows up and sometimes it doesn't

I am like a lot of people I know who have struggled with losing weight. I think I have about 5 different sizes in my closet. I also found a great sale last year and stocked up on 3 sets of these cute little T-shirts with matching capris. Like $12 for both pieces, I think. They don't quite fit yet but I'm thinking March? Going to see what else I can find on there later this week and maybe get the next size down as I get money. I went window shopping online this morning, LOL.

That is really cool that you did that. A lot of people don't get what a big deal those kinds of things are. Thanks for all the positive encouragement. I can sure use it.

    Tofu effigy? I wanna see....

I'm hoping to meet my mini-goal by Feb. 13. I've lost 16 already.

I know Topamax can make you lose weight like that. I was kidding my stepmother one day and said, "Boy, I wish they would put me on that one." Glad your meds are better now.

After I lost a hundred and three pounds, (diet and exercise due to a heart issue) The Dr. introduced me to topamax for migraines. It is said to be a combination drug, meaning it works for a couple different things. Anyhow, while I never had another migraine again.....I also didn't loose any additional weight. It does not supress the appetite on everyone.

It is extremely expensive....even in generic form......and yes, it did control the migraines, but it is a BRUTAL medication. (many people call it stupidmax) Articulation was so difficult for me. I've been off of it since July, and an Finally able to speak closer to normal.

Now, having said all of this. I'd still take topamax again in heart beat, because IT DOES WORK! Just not sure about the weight loss thing being an absolute. I haven't gained any weight since I stopped taking it either.

It is soon to be Feburary. We've got most of this winter stuff behind us. Hope all is well.

Boy, it's good to hear from you!

I've also heard it called the "supermodel" drug because it makes you thin and stupid. I am glad you got some relief. Migraines totally suck.

Yes, the days are getting longer again. Woohoo! Will be seeing some crocuses somewhere soon. I didn't plant bulbs last year, just didn't have the money. Maybe this fall.

I remember my dad going out on the porch with his walker to look for the first crocuses of the spring. We would check almost every day and we'd get so excited when we finally saw one. Then we'd watch for the tulips and daffodils.

    Needle Recall Info!

FDA Announces Recall of 2M Defective Needles

    WASHINGTON –
Federal health officials announced the recall of 2 million medical needles Tuesday because of a risk they can push bits of silicone into patients' bodies.

The Food and Drug Administration said Japanese manufacturer Nipro Medical Corp. has voluntarily recalled its Exel/Exelint Huber needles manufactured between January 2007 and August 2009.

The needles are used to access injection ports, which are devices implanted beneath the skin of patients who require frequent injections. The ports connect to a vein and allow easy delivery of chemotherapy, antibiotics and other injectable drugs.

Huber needles are designed to be non-coring, or to penetrate an injected material without retaining any of it.

However, a monthslong FDA investigation found that the needles can dislodge bits of silicone from the ports, potentially pushing them into the patient's bloodstream. The problem can also damage the ports themselves, resulting in problems delivering drug therapy.

An inspection at Nipro's manufacturing plant in Japan found that 60 to 72 percent of the company's needles had the design problem, according to the FDA.

"The agency's laboratory work helped determine the coring problem, and we will continue to work with manufacturers to address coring issues as quickly and thoroughly as possible," said Dr. Jeffrey Shuren, FDA's director of medical devices.

Huber needles have been approved in the U.S. since 1984, according to the FDA.

FDA officials told reporters Tuesday they are working with 19 other manufacturers to determine if their needles have the same problem. The agency estimates 6 million Huber needles are sold in the U.S. each year.

According to FDA regulatory specialist Mary Brooks, there have been no reports of silicone shards in patients, though it may be difficult for doctors to identify the problem.

Tuesday's announcement was the second mass recall from Nipro Medical in less than a week. On Thursday the company recalled 15 lots of GlucoPro Insulin Syringes because of a defect that can cause the needles to detach.

FDA advised hospitals and doctors to stop using the Huber needles and return them to Los Angeles-based Exel International, which distributed the products in the U.S. The company can be reached at 1-800-940-3935.

A spokesman for Exel said the company hopes to wrap up the recall within 30 days.

The FDA made several recommendations to physicians when using other Huber needles, including: watching for signs of tissue or nerve damage in patients, which could be a sign of damage to an injection port. The agency also suggested throwing out the first syringe injected into a port, in an effort to discard any bits of silicone.

The changes on my brain have made me more emotional, more irritable, less patient. I am quick to anger and quick to cry. I forget things easily. Sometimes I have to search for the right word I want when words used to roll off my tongue without conscious thought. I become frustrated easily. It affects me socially as well.

As a result of my health issues my self esteem level is sometimes VERY low. I find myself feeling less than feminine, very un-femme-ly, for lack of a better word. I can't wear high heels any more because my balance is horrible. I sometimes wonder what I have to offer my partner, being that my condition is a chronic lifetime one that will not suddenly get better. It may only stay the same or worsen with time.

I suspect I am not the only one who feels these things. I would like to hear from others who have physical disabilities and feel these things. What is your story? Do you feel less attractive, less "femme/butch/insert your choice of gender term here"? How do you cope? What are your experiences? How do you keep truckin' on?

I would ask a few things:

    1) Be respectful at all times. Not everyone here will share your POV and/or politics. That's OK. We are all different.
    2) If you cannot be supportive of those who participate, please go elsewhere.
    3) Not everyone who may post here will ID the same way. Someone may ID as "lesbian", another as FTM. That's okay. Quibbling about someone's gender ID, etc., is NOT what this thread is being started for. Please keep that kind of stuff out of the thread.
    4) Not everyone will feel perky at all times. That is OK too. Judicious ranting about your condition is allowed.
    5) This is a place of support, a place where folks can share all kinds of deep things, ask questions, etc. It is hard for some to share, so let's keep it positive and encouraging! If you have a personal issue with someone, handle it in a PM. Do not attack someone in a post to the thread. It will not be tolerated.

I believe in being up front, so:

I am sorry you got MS. I feel alot of the things you do. My main problem is that I have abrain tumor and that has affected alot of mental stuff like you mentioned. I had back surgery and have severe arthritis in there plus fibromyalgia which they think no may be hypothroid. I can't paly sports any more which I love. That really pissed me off too. I finally asked my neuro doc if I could take androgel and he said absoltely not, even T-oosters so I can't get any facial hair or anything else. That is killing me. I still feel like a guy but I am not transformed at all. But I keep trying to get stronger and get my eye to hand thing (forgort word) working if icN. tHEY SAID THE RADIATION EFFECTS GET WORSE as you agee so I'm like oh thats just f'in great.Thank for letting mr share.

It is this body that I suffer with each and every day. At night sometimes I think about if and when I die and go to Heaven, will my brain be healed, and will I be able to function as most do there? It is just that bothersome to me from what I have experienced so far on this earth.

Another great example is that I love living as a man. I hate my female body. I am so fulfilled (personally) that I am sometimes perceived and treated as a male. I hate it when I am treated as a female. It is not "me". Being a male is how I "id".

When looking for a job, most read the job description and what the requirements are. I look at who is ADA friendly (most are not because they don't want to have to deal with the Fed gov't interferring in their business). I worry about if I can "do" the job satisfactory, and maintain a good work record. It is like once I get hired, eventhough my employers know of my handicapp statis, they look the other way, and try to find ways to fire me. They don't want to list it as not being able to do the essential functions of the job, but for some other reason. I have yet to have job satisfaction and never intend on finding or having any. It is just that plain and simple for me at this point in my life.

I also have tried to get disability from SS (was always denied), but never had any help from any dr's. They think that all brain damaged folks can work for min wage and live a normal life. I just shake my head. I would love to have one of them try to live on $5 or less a day. This of course wouldn't include medical insurance or a drug plan.

I have experienced a life that is not what I thought it should be. I am blessed. I have alot to be grateful for, but am tired of having door after door slammed shut in my face. It gets old real fast.

    Peace to all,
    Andrew
Woodie, you said it all as far as I am and what I have gone through. You should be able to get disability. I can't remember how I got mine, but I would talk to some high up person and say how do I not qualify? This is B.S.! I think it took me a while to get but eventually I got it. So don't give up! God Bless

I still feel shame about my braces. They are not visible though to most except they limit the kind of shoes I can wear. Men's sports shoes just are not my favorite thing (even though I do enjoy tennies in general). When I was considering getting a walking stick I wanted an elaborate one with engravings and such. Because I figured it would make me feel better about it. I also wanted a taller walking staff and not a cane per se. I still think I will get one because there are times when it is easier to have the extra support even with the braces on. I just have to find a place that has what I want. The first one I saw that I liked was at an art fair and I just didn't have the money then to buy it.

    Thanks for your post.

Mic, I found my walkind stick ata fair. It is all wood but cut in aunique way (or maybe it just grew that way). This guy was very professional. Check on the internet to see if you have anyone like that near you. Maek sure its the reak deal b/c there's alot of scammer out there, Good luck!

The current belief of "cure" is not necessarily the HRT and surgeries but to change the problem of the mind. So like one would not give an alcoholic, alcohol to "cure" them and I believe Methadone clinics are technically "new" for drug addictions, to pay for the surgery or HRT would not be "curing" the Gender Identity DISORDER.

But mind you, most people will get more days inpatient for alcohol addiction or drug addiction than for depression. People with chronic depression can get turned down for payment for therapy but not for medication management. When I first entered the tunnel of psychiatric illness, I was diagnosed specifically with a mild "impairment" so insurance would cover my treatment but not limit it. Makes no sense huh?

FTM is an ILLNESS therefore the treatment that is currently "typical" is to cure it by changing the mental aspect of it not curing it by aligning the physical body to the reality of the person. So of course insurances will not pay for it because it is promoting the "illness" so to speak. It is more or less like letting someone with hallucinations have them because they want to and not making them take medication when they are a danger to themselves or society. (Which I have seen patients forced by court order to take medication for hallucinations.)

Technically mental illness treatment does not = money. The drugs do but people are allowed less and less access to the talk therapy that can make or break the rest of their life. So you might be lucky to get 30 visits a year. Now add an addiction diagnosis and you might get another 30 too. But sometimes that isn't even the case. You can get a lot of drugs because the drug companies make money.

Am I making better sense now? The DSM basically exists to help determine the "best" treatment for the patients. The "best" treatment is the one that will make the drug companies the most money and will cost the insurance companies the least, not the treatment that will help the patient live a better life.

They were more than happy when I first started working again after I went on disability in 94. I was working 2 days a week- 4 hours a day. They were going to be content with me doing that job. That was them accomplishing the task of me being better. I was cutting old stained clothes that would not sell at GoodWill into rags with this machine thing. How the hell is that living? But THAT is what the government will pay for and what they see as adequate treatment and recovery for chronic mental illness.

I am glad I didn't take it and I am proud of where I am today in spite of what I have had to deal with.

Thank you for your post and your input and insights. It helps me to understand and think about things too from a different arena.

    Take care.
    Michele

Michele, this is a great post. My Mom believes its amental illness too or at least apyshologocal one. I have heard of studies that are saying its a genetic issue. If that gets verified, then what are the gonna say?

I did indeed have a minor stroke, plus recently, another one, my right side of my face is tight while the left side of my smile is slack, as compared to how it was beofre. I also am having some troble with my vision, as it is getting blurry on occaision and it makes typing all the harder. Luckily though, my doctor suspecs that I have not suffered any severere damage to mu btain, but I can tell that I am not as well as I was bfore the straoke. Please keep me inyour prayers, as I ama bit frightened by the prospect of oanyther stroke, My fatgher passed away from a massive stroke two years back. I'll jkeep posting as I can. Much love and lighy6 to you all.

Migraines can be such an interruption of life. The topamax being dubbed *supermodel* made me laugh.

It's always nice to read your positive posts Shy. Hope today finds you doing a little better.

I know it has been a few days since I have posted anything about Mom, so here we go. Last Thursday she went and had her blood drawn, and a CAT scan done, they told her that her liver and blood were not involved, and that she had to go back on Friday for a bone scan. So back she went, had the test and then met with her oncologist.
He told her that it looks like the cancer is isolated to her breast, that it is a sarcoma that is caused by radiation (radiation from her first bout with breast cancer), and that she was to see the surgeon Thursday 4th of Feb to find out about a surgery date for her mastectomy.

Seems this type of cancer doesn't respond well to Chemo, so it will just be the surgery, unless something unexpected pops up.

Thank you all for the well wishes and the prayers..I will attempt to keep you up to date on all that is going on.

    Re: Can empathize

    Dear MiamiButch:
i can empathize w/you. i have had two strokes, both located in the deep brain area-hypothalamus/pit gland. my docotrs basically sent me home to die. most people w/my type of strokes do not live. as usual w/me, i proved them wrong and even went back to work for awhile. you need to exercise your brain all that you so that new neuron pathways can be built. study, do word search puzzles, these

    PK,
I am so sorry to hear this news as I know you and your mom and dad must be having a tough time not trying to worry and all. I will send out more prayers for your mom's healing, and for you and your dad. Hang in there buddy, and if you need to call day or night, you got our number, just hit the dial pad keys and let it ringy dingy until we answer. If goes to voice mail, hang up and call back immediately, cause it's set to go in only 4 rings.....something I can't seem to figure out how to change yet.
I"ve called ya over the weekend and left ya a couple voice mails. I hope your doing alright my friend. Let me know any other news that comes up about your mom, and CALL ME so I know your alright.

    Hey Miami,
I am sorry to hear about your stroke. I hope your alright. I will keep ya in my prayers. You might want to go your doctor to find out WHY you had them, have them run some tests if need be. And do excersize your brain with word puzzles and things like that, things that make you think. it will help.
