I used to go to the Seahorse years ago, and always enjoyed it. But then we went early in the afternoon, or evening, and played pool, etc. Haven't been there in many years.

As far as Gary and Hammond are concerned...what line of work do you do that takes you there? I was born in Hammond and lived there for a long time, but the town itself is all boarded up now. And it and Gary are like two "pit cities!" Sorry you have to go to either one of them. Too bad you can't be transferred to Chesterton or Michigan City. Nice towns along Lake Michigan. Chesterton is between Gary and Michigan City.

My sweetie Rhett and I live in Ft. Wayne, IN. It's a nice city...the second largest in IN, just behind Indy. You'd like it here, I think.

Would you believe that some of the nicest nature preserves in Indiana are in the Gary area? It's totally true, both state, federal and privately owned preserves that are incredibly diverse and unique only to the southern lake Michigan rim can be found next to oil refineries and steel mills. Anyhow, that's what brings me to the area; I'm a conservation biologist. I'll be working mostly in Gary and East Chicago, but I can't say I want to live in either place. I've been looking for nice areas that are still close. Chesterton is nice but a bit too far east. Any other suggestions or comments on the region?

Yes, todo boi, I do live in Ft. Wayne, IN. Went to Pride Day yesterday, June 28th. It was rather small but nice. Saw lots of folks I know, but mostly what I call "androids" (not butch, not femme, not into roles...but all pretty much look alike).
Where are you located in IN?

A conservation biologist?? How wonderful! There are a lot of wonderful nature areas in NW Indiana. I was unaware of them in Gary, however. Also, I lived many years in East Chicago, IN, and in Chesterton and Porter. You might try living in Portage. That's a pretty nice town, and not as expensive as Chesterton or Merrillville. But if you wanted to live in Chesterton or Porter, there is the South Shore RR that runs from Chesterton (actually from South Bend) all the way to Chicago, with stops all the way up there. I enjoy all the aspects of nature very much, as does my partner Rhett.

Yes, todo boi, I've been to The Ten in Indy, but it was about 13 years ago. LOL! We don't go to clubs. My partner is 62 and I'm 59, and we get together with friends for dinner and/or to play cards or board games. I didn't like The Ten when I went there. Like most gay bars, it was too crowded, and too loud, and too rowdy.

Just checkin' in from Atlanta...I miss my Hoosier home. Glad to see that some more people are posting to the forum. Scarlett, so nice to get to know you here. My ex- is from Ft. Wayne so I know the town well (or, at least I did at one time)...

I used to live in Indy and came out at the Ten (years ago when it was loud and rowdy and men wouldn't think of entering "unescorted") It sounds like it's still loud and rowdy--do they still do drag there?

I don't know if it is still rowdy, since I haven't been there in so many years. However, I would say it is safe to say that it is! LOL!
Todo boi seems to like it and is quite a bit younger than I am, so I'm sure it still is the same meat market. LOL! The bars usually are. I'll be in the NE corner of GA this weekend with my sweetie. We're leaving Thursday afternoon to visit our friend there, who lives in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Be back on Sunday p.m. Glad to meet you. BTW, where did you live in IN and if you lived in Ft. Wayne, whereabouts?

Hey y'all...
Well, I moved to Atlanta about 5 years ago to take a job. Atlanta is a great place to live if you're gay--unlike many places in the South. There is a tone of stuff to do and be involved in... I like it but do miss my home and my friends. I'm not from Indy but i lived there 10 years before i moved here. I lived on the East side...first in Irvington, then in Brookside (in the "hood") then in Little Flower--which is around 10th and Emerson. I still keep in touch with a number of friends from there and love to go out whenever i'm back to visit. I like the Abby...Scarlett, it's a coffee house in Indy--kinda homey, kinda funky...actually, i think there are several of them now (the original Abby on Mass Ave. and then another one in Castleton). It's nice to know that some things never change--for example, the Ten...Still having drag shows and still loud and rowdy. I like to kick up my heels every now and then but not like i used to.

Scarlett, my ex grew up on the South side of Ft. Wayne so that's what i'm most familiar with. We split years ago but i used to go there every so often for my job (before I moved here). And I had a roommate who was from there so I used to back w/ her every so-often. My very favorite restaurant is Casa D'Angelos (hope I spelled it right).

If you are coming to NE Ga...I bet you'll be visiting the mountains. Have you been to the N GA mountains before? I love the mountains...very peaceful and nice weather. Hopefully, it won't rain. We've had a terrible day today...rainey all day. It rarely rains all day during the summer here so this is freakin' people out...we usually have "pop up showers" where it rains for about an hour then everything is normal again (like in FL)

Yes, we ARE going to the mountains. Our friend lives in the Chattahoochee National Forest, and we're going to visit her. She's a stone butch, who is also a minister, and we just love her. I'm editing a book for her, besides being very good friends with her.

Well, it is supposed to rain the entire weekend while we're there. We will leave tomorrow afternoon, get into Atlanta at 7:30 p.m., then get our rental car and drive up there...about 2 1/2 hours. We're very exciting about seeing her, and her mountains. I haven't been in the mountains in years. And my partner and love of my life, Rhett, is from Vermont. She LOVES the mountains! So she is really excited about going. She can't wait to see her butch buddy!

Of course we can pull something together! The question is what. In between searching for apartments and banging my head on the wall, these ideas have occured to me:

1. November is too cold for a picnic but what about a sleding or iceskating get together at some place like Bendix Woods in SB where there are warm buildings to take refuge in,
2. Crashing a bar is a free way to get a venue,
3. The same could be said for a coffee house,
4. Ouch, my head hurts.

Off topic, but still IN. Does anyone know where the safer neighborhoods in Gary are? How are Glen View or Miller Lake for security?
