I have a sleeve. I followed the artisits career from the time she started. Origionlay I had decided to have a water theme in all of my collection, which I plan to add to. Now I am thinking I may go elemental. Water, fire, earth, air. I love traditional Japanese coy tatts. I'd love a big one. I am debating weather to get my blank arm covered in a second sleeve, or to do the opposite leg (right arm left leg).
so I am curious about others tatts. If you feel like sharing.
How many Tatt's do you have?
Why did you get them?
Is there a theme?
How did you choose the artist?
and anything eles you might like to add :)

I have two so far. I have a black 6 or is it an 8 point star..it is on the back of my right shoulder..hence forth why I can't remember how many darn points I had put on it. The next one is on my left wrist and it is a triquetra. Incase most of you don't know what that is..it is the symbol used on the television show "Charmed". If you have never seen "Charmed", then I don't know how to describe it. I have designed a new one that will be done soon. I was going to have it put across my trapezoid muscles but now I find it will run into my star. It has a gothic feel to it and similar to lightening bolts with a heart design in the middle. It will be black and red with the word "Beckham" below it and centered. I think I will stop at 3.. but getting a tattoo is addictive. I didn't believe it at first but it is true..

hmmmm i had long wanted to have a tat but i never could decide where i would want one and what i would want and then which of the hundreds of shops in the city to select....
then i was collared and my Mistress decided that she wanted me with tats... she chose the place, the artists and the design... so for now i have a kanji on my breast, a triskele on my lower back and a viking symbol on the back of my neck... she is also planning to put more down my spine linking the two pieces on my back....
but i must say that once the ink is in you... the body starts to call for more

Stonefoxx, I have to agree that once you have that ink under your skin you find yourself wanting more. I have a few tattoos and love them. I have three on my ankle and want to develope that area more. While I am getting one tattoo I am allready thinking about the next one. Unfortunately (or fortunately) money doesn't permit me to do all I want with tats. My hip tattoo ( hearts with fireworks around them) is in a book at a tattoo place I go to. That's cool, and I have an ocean wave on my shoulder. That too is something I would like to have developed more.
Love hearing about everyone's tats.

I have two, so far.
I have a dragon flying down from my collarbone towards my left breast, all black. It got really screwed up, cause I went with my baby to get it and the artist didn't like us very much, so he rushed it and the one she got at the time. I really need to get it fixed. I had gotten my tongue repierced at the same place, and the guy that did that did an awesome job. Too bad he didn't do our tatts.
The other one I got done is on my low back, right above my pants line. It's a celtic knot done in gray shading. It came out awesome, would love to have the same guy do another one for me and/or fix my stupid dragon. BTW, it just so happens his girlfriend cuts my hair! lol

I have two tattoos. One is a lavender butterfly on the back of my left shoulder. My second one is a Siberian Tiger on my left bicep. He is the feature of the artist's web-site. Quite stunning actually. The next one I'm going to get is a Tasmanian devil on a surfboard. I'm the Taz, and I'd rather be in the surf....then at work, hence the idea for the next picture-graph.

tats.... I have a unicorn head(but a unicorn with attitude) on my right calf and a scroll with an inscription on my right bicep. The inscription reads "Bienvenida a mi vida loca". For my single language friends out there, it means "Welcome to my crazy life"
I want to get one more on my left bicep, that will be a full unicorn rearing up on his hind legs, mountains behind him and a rainbow spanning the mountains.
Now I just have to get up the scratch for it:s

I can't find the article (I thought it was in Newsweek), but I recently read about an author who is tatooing her story onto actual humans rather than publishing the work. If you want to have one of the words written on your body there's still time to participate (and if you do you will be given a copy of the story in print form...anyone else who wants to read it will have to get all of the people together first, I think).
I just thought that was the coolest thing. If I weren't forbidden from getting a tatoo, I'd be next in line for this.
Does anyone have any more info on this?

I have a black ink tattoo on my upper back of the Ying Yang with the sun's rays around it...it means a lot to my.
I want a sweatpea vine with a pink triangle in the middle of it on my lower back. Lots of color. Mybe tiny butterflies or bumblee bee here and there. Sweat pea is my Birth month flower and I identify strongly with pink triangles.
Anyway, I am working on a concept for the vine tattoo...

oh my goodness...I love, love, love tattoos.....and my mood changes so dramitically that I am not sure what to get....where to put it....yada yada.....PLUS.....I am chicken ......I have given birth, but I still for some reason think this pain will be worse....lmao....could someone tell me please what it is really like??? What it feels like???(k)
tzip - i would love more info on this. also, why are you forbidden from getting a tattoo??
femme4u - it is different for everybody. my daughter, who is a total wuss when it comes to pain, said hers didn't hurt at all. i tolerate pain well, and mine hurt, but the pain is well worth it. i felt very relaxed with my artist, and was able to choose the tunes playing, which really helped.

I don't have any yet and that is mainly because up until about a year ago, I wasn't into them.
My lady is the expert. She has 8 and not done yet. :)
I am planning on getting at least two but prolly not more than 3 at the most. But who knows...........I have learned to never say never. LOL
I want to get a Warrior's Shield on the back of my right shoulder to honor my Native American heritage. I also want an arm band with feathers on my left bicep. Not sure beyond that point.

I have 5 tatoos and I was soon as beingone of the last people who would ever get one . . .
my first one was when I cam back from NY and a junior in college.
I got a heart with a rose wrapped around it on my right breast. I put it there because i was insacure about my chest then about 10 yrs later I got the moon and star one around my ankle because I realized I didn't need anyone in my life. then the third came after my divorce as a present to myself it is the Capericorn symbol and a year later I got a small symbol of a sagastrous because I found out I was born on the cusp.
I also got the cresent moons with the full moon with ribbons and stars on my right shoulder and I drew that one.
any more I get I will draw myself. hopefully in the next year I will be getting a dragonfly with rainbow wings and one of the body circles being the butch femme symbol with the word femme written underneath it. that will go on my lower back and then soon or later i will wrap it around with vines and leaves to my belly button.
I love tatoos I can tell where I was at in my life when I look at them

I have 6... Started with a small chinese character, went by myself to get it bcuz I thought I'd freak, didn't want witnesses, haha..... then 2 years later another character, still small, got that one at a tattoo convention....then, craved something more, about 2 years after the last, 5 small flowers going through my characters, pride colors, that was done at a shop in LA....... next was about 2 years later, went bigger, got the ex's name with a tribal heart at a great shop in SFV (no regrets).... after that it was a matter of months before we were back at the same shop, this time got a blue shamrock..... then, about 8 or 9 months ago(i think) i got my biggest most prized one... (still at the same shop) a full body full color, Geisha girl..... I'm dedicated to that shop now, they have been in business for over 30 years! Those guys rock! Not to mention they are hella inexpensive. I'd only stray to another shop if I was in another city farther away or another state... BUT.... depends on whom I am with... A tattoo is a memory... You always remember what you were doing in life at that time, who you were with, etc... No matter what. It can be difficult to find the right shop, the way I knew this was the shop for me was when my ex & I went in, she needed a cover up on her forearm, most places in Hollywood told her they could not help & if they did it would cost a fortune, we walked in there, the guy who was there gave her ideas, listened to her likes, paid attention, then drew an incredible turtle (she loves turtles), he didnt charge her very much at all... It was love.... We both are loyal to them still.....

I'm working on a large cover for 3 old tats. It's an original piece of art ~ A dragon.
Some people have lawyer or bail bondsmen; I have a tattoo guy that comes to my house.
I asked him to initial it when he's done. Cause that's what artists do ...
When this one is done, I'll start somewhere else. A leg, perhaps?

Too much fun! I wish I could have come home with a dozen new tats, however, the tats I have are where I can cover them for work or a formal occasion. Recently though I have wanted to get the Chinese symbol for JOY on the back of my neck. Any thoughts? (that and a scorpion holding yin yang symbol, seams up the back of my legs, Betty Page, etc - no, not all on my neck!) And, the artist that has been brought to my attention that is awesome with dimension, perspective, colour and b/w is in Chicago, IL. I guess I have done stranger things than traveled for a tat.

I can't get tatoos because I'm Jewish. But I think they're really pretty. (Well...some of them are pretty.)
Interestingly enough, in halacha, Jewish law, having a tatoo removed is a bigger sin than getting it in the first place. So I've wondered about marrying someone who already has them and converting him before he knows he can't halachically remove them. ;)

I have 2 tattoo's.
The first one I got is an ankle wrap. It starts on my ankle, spirals down to the top of my right foot. It's made up of 14 purple flowers, and there's a fairy on the side of my ankle, that looks down at it. It's just so damn cool!! Damn it hurt like hell though! I look at it and I still can't believe my eyes. I really need to post pics of it. Cause describing it really doesn't do it justice..
Tattoo # 2 is a set of eyes on my lower back. One eye is open and one is closed.
So, it looks like they are winking.

I love getting them, and I love having them. They are very addictive! I have 7 of them now and am making plans for more. Every one of my tats commemorates something that happened in my life. Anything from an achievment, to a lesson learned to not be forgotten.
To answer your question femme4u02, it feels like a really bad scratch the next day. During the tattoo though, your body releases endorphins, and its almost like being high. Does anybody else feel this?
My left shoulder is the International Kenpo Karate emblem. The tiger represents physical power, and the dragon represents spiritual power. Above that is a Japanese symbol meaning "strength." My left shoulder is a celtic dragon that I got after I did something really really stupid, to remind me not to be stupid, lol. I got my armband when I got my first engineering job. My crecent moon on my arm to represent a special friendship. My celtic sun around my belly I got after I got out of a relationship that almost brought me down. A reminder of that relationship. I recently got a dragon on my calf, simply to mark an occasion with a really special friend.
I have pics in the gallery of them also!

Hiya everybody!
I just had my first tattoo done today! It is puffy, but it didn't really hurt to get it done. My tattoo artist Brianna was a fairy looking girl from brooklyn new york.
My tattoo is a gothic looking butterfly that is outlined bold in black and then colored in with purple and blue.
The place it is located would be my upper inner right thigh. Yes, I had to straddle for the artist...but my Tattoo is so scandalous it was worth it!
I am going to get a bigger butterfly on my lower back and then flowers on the back of my neck...when I have money that is...as my tattoo was only 1 inch wide and two inches long. It was eighty bucks...whew...

1) How many Tatt's do you have?
Ok...I currently have 4, but seriously jonesing for a 5th one!!!
2) Why did you get them?
* Got my 1st one cause I was dying to get a tat and was trying
for the longest time to come up with the design I wanted and a
good friend of mine in Kansas drew it and put it in my b-day
card. As soon as I saw it I was like, "That's it!" It's a yin yang
in the middle of a sun on the outside of my lower right ankle.
The yin yang is black on one side and has the colors of the
rainbow on the other. One ring of the sun is pointy rays that
are yellowish/orange and then there are firery rays in between
each pointy ray that are reddish/orange. Unfortunately it
wasn't until the following year that I actually got it done, but I
did and I get more compliments on it!
I got my second one kind of on a whim and the fact that I love
how the chinese characters look. I decided I wanted to get
one that meant "Pride" and so that's what I did. It's actually a
bond with my best friend and myself as we went and got the
same tat done both done on our upper left arms.
I got my third one because I had wanted an arm band for the
longest time. Unfortunately I chickened out on getting the
whole band done, so I got a cuff, which I think still looks good
with a kind of wavey design and I got the Onk symbol in the
middle.
Finally my 4th one I got done because I had really wanted a
tattoo on my back and because I kind of wanted something
that signified the things I feel are important about being a
woman. So I got the chinese symbols for "Strength, Woman
and Love" down the center of my back.
I'm hoping to get my 5th sometime soon and when I do it's
going to most likely be a barbwire ankle band either connecting
the tat on my right ankle from one side to the other or just
completely around my left ankle. Not sure about that yet
though.
3) Is there a theme?
* No real method to my madness. Just like what I like and go
with what I'm feeling at the time. :)
4) How did you choose the artist?
* Did not really pick any particular artist. Found this really cool
place while I was in San Francisco about 5 or 6 years ago called
Mothers for my first one, went to a place that was
recommended to me called Little Vinnie's in Maryland for my 2nd
one and then found this awesome shop in San Diego for my 3rd
and 4th called Royal Tattoo!!!
Ok, sorry for rambling on the way I did. Hope I didn't bore ya'll too much!
Later,
~ Hunter

I have 5. My first one is a full size peacock feather, the eye lies on my left shoulder, the quill on my right hip. It took 5 1/2 hours. My second was a yin-yang, with a white buffalo and otter on my rigt calf. Third, a left-side armband...tri-lobed violet with vines...not solid so it doesn't cut off any energy flows. Fourth, on my right forearm is the symbol off my gravestone. The last one, I designed myself. Left forearm, it represents myself and four other women with whom I've been friends for over 25 years.
All are original. The artist, TeeJay in Rochester, NY, will never put them on anyone else.
Ink is addictive. I get one about every other year. I agree with the endorphin rush. For me, the pain next day is like a rugburn on top of a sunburn.
I'm torn right now, between getting another tat or getting pierced.

caribbeansoul.........something pierced huh? oh my....do tell!
I have two tattoos and really really want more.
My first is a yin/yang on my chest, which really needs to be either touched up or have something done over it (it will probably be the later of the two). I had always wanted one, ever since I can remember and when I turned 18, boom, I went to the shop and got me one! I wish I had thought about placement more though. Working in the profession I do, its rather hard to hide while wearing a white blouse.
My second is The Eye of Life....an Egyptian hieroglyphic, on my right ankle. It’s supposed to be a good luck symbol, but honestly, I couldn’t tell if there has been a difference!! LOL
I will get more. I agree with the thoughts on ink being addictive. It certainly is. Even though, I can’t say though that my experiences with the pain where good ones. I almost hyperventilated while the first was being done, and the second, I just about ripped the arm rest off the chair while tears filled my eyes. Now that I’m older, I’ve done a lot more research on artist in my area and have found one I am more than comfortable with. She will do my next tats, no doubt about it.
I have concepts, but nothing very defined. I’d like a ivy vine around my left ankle. Something femme, petite, pretty. And the largest idea would be something colorful centered in the small of my back, with the ivy vine again, flowing horizontally from each side, with a few teeny tiny butterflies, maybe a dragon fly, and a lady bug nested in the vine. I just can’t figure out what should be in the center. I thought of a butterfly, but that’s not very original, I may go with something that represents earth, wind, fire, water, or maybe the four directions, north, south, east, and west....See!! My thoughts are all over the place on this!! LOL But I will be figuring it out soon. And getting something pierced soon....lol
I find tattoos very sensual, sexy, I want to touch them when I see them. I have no idea why, they just fascinate me.

Chexmix1011--I'd like to get my nipples pierced. I have one hole in an earlobe. I had my eyebrow pierced, but it didn't ever heal. I've also thought about getting my nose pierced. Not where everybody else does though. I want a bar through the skin on the part of my nose between my eyes. It would mostly hide behind my glasses, but I'm amused with the thought of people sort of noticing it and then trying to figure out if what they're seeing is really what they're seeing!
I know I need more ink (and soon). I'm thinking about what would balance my body. I need something for my left calf and my right upper arm. But when I close my eyes, sit and listen to my body, the back of my neck calls! I'm picturing something in blues...I guess I better start thinking...bonus & tax return times are right around the corner. Getting an appointment with TeeJay can be tough. She's usually booked 3 months ahead! (Although we have an "arrangement"!) ;)

Hey Chex. Is the artist you are talking about Verne? I can't remember the name of her shop. Anyway, she has an original piece that she drew herself. It starts at the bottom as a mist and rises up and swirls, and at the top forms two women in an embrace. It you want something in the center that may just be the thing you are looking for. Might want to check that out.

Before I was 18 I always wanted a tattoo. No specific reason, just was really interested. So when I turned "legal" I went out and got the standard.... rose through a heart on the back of My shoulder....that I found on a record album. I said at that time.."This is the only one I will ever get"...and the guy said "never say never".. Boy was he right. :D
I am now 36 and have 9 tats. Two of them were add ons/coverups. Second tat was a plain pink upside down triangle, the next day was a play boy bunny on My right ankle. "What was I thinking back then?". The triangle is now inside of a dream catcher arm band and the bunny is now a killer whale. I do have a "theme" going on on My legs. A tribal/water design on My left calf..killer whale on right ankle, dolphin scene on right calf and last June, I finally got My ultimate Tiger "Which I wanted since I was 18" with paws splashing water. My right leg is "Owned" by one artist. Here locally. He is awesome and gives Me good prices! (y)
So that is 6...
a lil heart w/wings on left breast.. "want to turn that into something a lil more elaborate"
So that leaves Me to My left arm. Which gets complicated but wouldn't change a thing. I had an ex visit Me from across the states. "wasn't an ex at the time" The day she left, we got matching tats. Celtic knot with kanjii signs. Mine on My arm, hers on her upper breast. I whole heartedly believe in NOT getting names. But this was a symbol for both of us and us alone. We broke up after 3 years and I still love it. Mainly because of the design and partially because of what it "did" mean. I met My next g/f "ex now" and she hated it. Couldn't stand to look at it. Wanted Me to cover it up. I said "no". I understand what she felt, but it was Mine now. No matter what. My body is for Me....no one else. Then I wanted something added on to the area...just to change the "meaning" of the knot a little bit. So she ended up designing an arch design to go above it. It says "Daddy" with little tribal design coming off of it. It did signafy that I was her Daddy but more importantly..I am a "Daddy" no matter what. So when she became My ex, I thank her for the design and other ppl like it because it "Fits" ;)
Everytime I get a tat...it takes about 6 months before I get the "Itch" to get another one. I will not go overboard and get every space filled, that's not for Me. I also won't get any on My back because I can't enjoy them. But then ...never say never....
Thanks for letting Me ramble. :$

I have only gotten one tat on spur of the moment, because it had a special meaning.

I have not checked out any tat places in Portland. I only know of Eugene. My guy is at Spritual Tree...His name is Mild Bill. There is also Tattoo By Design..has a few artists there. Bonnie Jean is the owner and a lesbian. "If that matters" lol Other than that, the other places have "young punks" that I wasn't comfortable with. Keep searching...

This is a cool thread...I think I've got ya'll beat though..lol. I have 33 tat's, and have several more picked out. Most of mine are of animals. I have one tat shop that I go to, and they usually give me a good deal, since I'm a repeat customer! They are very addictive....but It's my way of investing in art. Never have to have them framed..or pack them when I move! Lol.

i'm with you shadowboi...the pain and sound is like no other :) the first time i was nervous so it hurt (good hurt)...the first 15 to 30 mins were hard...but after that...unbelievalbe!
people were telling me that having a tat on the ankle would hurt...i almost feel asleep (would have too, but she kept telling me to roll over).
this last one...i'm thankful my gf went with me for i needed someone's hand to hold (squeezed the chair so i wouldn't break her hand)...the pain was intense. but it's not really worth it (i wouldn't know it was there either) if you didn't have it.
it's always mind over matter if you have a hard time with pain...and the end result are worth every moment.

LOL.........I think I would have enjoyed it more if the circumstances where better..... My first felt like someone had shot me in the chest, literally walked up to me and pulled the trigger, it was no fun at all. My second, was an impulse buy at a flea market...(don't ask) and my nerves were just shot by the time it came to my turn...lol
The next I will be tons and tons more relaxed, in a friendly environment, and by a professional who I know, knows what she is doing. So, we'll see if I can get into the "pain" of it all.....I have a feeling I will be able to without any hesitation.

I am so happy to see so many posts to this thread :)
and so facinated by everyones stories.
It's great to read the meanings peoples tatts have and the reasons they have for getting them.
I agree they are addictive.
I can't wait to have more work done.
I like the way it feels too :$

what about piercings? I'm considering getting my belly button pierced... I find it sexy as hell on others, and thought it just might be on me too.......but pain, pain is involved here, it can't be any worse that a tat, can it? Is it a stub your toe kind of pain, or a nice hard smack on the @ss type of pain?

hey all
tattoo's I love them only have three for there were only three reasons for me to get them...as my life continues I am sure I will find other reasons to get more...pain well I use something called emla it is a freezing that you buy from the pharmacy and it numbs the skin totally....I have a toe ring a peace sign and rainbow in a cricle got it when I first became aware of my sexuality...a moon sun and stars on my right thigh after my dad passed away...a red eyed tree frog on my shoulder after a car accident left me an incomplete parapallegic, frogs only hop forward and that is where I needed to hop forward with my life as I was left with it...I will get the next one with my gf (wildandsucculent) and I will get my final one when I marry my beautiful femme....
by the way I love this thread...very interesting to know why it is people tattoo and where....thanks for sharing your tats I would love to see pics of them...peace out!

Oh yeah...getting new ink is definitely up there on the pleasure/pain plateau! When I had my first forearm tattoo done, I was very concious of my hand position. My arm was laid out on a padded arm board with my tattooist leaning over. I kept my hand curled in a fist until she noticed and told me to relax. I told her I was trying to be a gentleman. If I relaxed my hand, I was going to be holding her breast. She just smiled and said I didn't have to be a gentleman. I highly recommend this experience for anyone who needs to hold onto something while getting inked!
It's difficult to describe the pain involved to other people, since we all have different pain-tolerance levels. I've had 3 knee surgeries and I was moving furniture when the ambulance was on its way to pick me up to take me to the hospital for a ruptured appendix...so getting new ink is about like getting a hangnail for me.
Piercing pain is a new experience for me. For my eyebrow, yeah, I'd say it was like stubbing my toe really hard or hitting my thumb instead of the nail with a hammer. Really really intense for a minute or two, then settling down to a dull throb. And yes, Chex...right between the eyes! I hesitate ONLY because I think I'd be looking at it all the time and walk around cross-eyed! I can get a clear nylon bar when I want to be "discrete" and to wear in the winter...I've thought about how cold metal would be up here in the frozen northlands!
I think piercings and tats on anyone are sexy as all get out! And great ice-breakers...I haven't met anyone yet who doesn't like to talk about their ink and piercings. And I've seen more body parts displayed in public from people who have tats! I know when someone asks about my forearms, it leads to all the rest and before I know it, I'm raising my shirt and showing off my feather!
btw...Happy Happy Friday all!

Got my bellybutton pierced about a year and a half ago. It is definately a stub your toe kind of pain. It takes alot of care to get it to heal right. But I am glad I did it. The pain is quick and over. I want to get that little piece of cartlidge in your ear pierced. I think it is called the tartus (?). Heard that hurts alot. Also, I want to get a coverup done on a tattoo I have on my shoulder with my ex's name in. Why oh why do I like all this painful stuff......hmmmmm.

My belly piercing finally pushed its way out, so I have to get it done again.
I have found that for keeping the infection out of piercings below the neck, nothing works better than Hibiclens! Clean it twice a day with hibiclens and don't touch it and the infection will be gone in a couple of days. Antibacterial soap can't hold a candle to it.
I know people who have gooten that particular ear piercing done. Some say it doesn't hurt at all, while some say it killed them.

the newest one....going on 6months...is in my left ear (top part). couldn't sleep on my left side for awhile but now it's much better. every once in a while it hurts but someone said that it should take up to a year to fully heal.
i love mine but i'm going to stick with just getting more tats:)

shadow...I so hear ya about the feel of getting a tattoo. It's like this incredibly, intense, amazing good pain that feels so damn good. I mean at first it stings a bit, but then after a lil' bit it's just kind of numb and then there's just that tingly kind of feeling. The only one that made me tear up was the one on my back. Now that f'in hurt like a bitch, but I love it! I can't wait for my next one. I'm so damn jonesin' for it!

No worries about goin off topic...the one subject kinda leads to the other *grin*
As for the nipple peircings...for me they increased sensativity increadably. Thats why I got them, my nipples are not perticularily sensative and I felt I was missing out lol :$
Thats also part of the reason I had them out. I was riding horses alot and the ummm boucing motion :$ was just waaay to intence :s
I really regret removing them :( but I really didn't have a choice at the time.
Also I find my nipples more sensative after having had them.
Hope that this info was helpful :)

Hi Chex.... I have had my nipples pierced for about 3 yrs now, and i love them!.... i have not lost any feeling, infact, i think it's just enhanced it! :).... and you can get the sexiest jewlery, jems, etc :)....
Booker~ i think you are referring to the TRAGUS, which is the lil nub of skin attached to the side of your face in your ear.... i have mine done, it wasn't that painful, and the healing was rather quick! I have a horseshoe (ball on each end) in it now, and it's "pressure holding" a lil blue bead... very cute, and dainty! :) i love it!~

Currently I have 12 tattoos and my goal is to be completely covered head to feet before I croak. I also have tragus piercings and a septum ring that I would like to get up to a 0 gauge (it's only an 8 right now) . Reading everyone elses stories has me jonesin' for a tat fix NOW.
