My gf and I have some questions about piercing the clitoral hood...myth vs. reality type of thing...

How long does it take to heal?
Can you go horse back riding when you have one?
Does it take away from orgasm?
Downfalls during sex?
Anything to watch out for?

Thank you for your feedback!

Hood piercings are delish.....

I have found them to make sex more enjoyable...

No downfalls, makes sex fun, horse back riding a joy, and just make sure you keep it clean right after it's done and well wait to tug on it at least 2 weeks, unless you are a Sadist wait 2 hours and press... Hard;)

Woohoo found a fun thread.(y)

Everyone answered your questions splendidly.
Here's some info about the different types of genital piercings available, healing times, and caring for them.
Hopefully you will be able to get the type of piercing you like best:

I want one (or more) also, but have no idea which would work for my body and want to wait until I have someone that can help keep an eye on it for infection.

If you're playing with any plastic vibes, depending on your ring, it might make a loud clacking noise, which in turn might make you giggle, which then might kinda ruin the mood:s

I've not had a problem riding horses. In fact, if you lean a little forward in the saddle...........

How long does it take to heal?

One of the fastest healing areas for most. Mine healed so fast I think it took two days max.

Can you go horse back riding when you have one?

Yes why not? Some might even enjoy it more.

Does it take away from orgasm?

No unless it's pierced incorrectly or with a gauge too high that weakens sensitivity over time.

Downfalls during sex?

Some 1 might shallow it if you wear out the threading. It happens

Anything to watch out for?

Just did--O and it hurts if you get it caught on anything e.i. braces, tongue rings, zippers, I even once had a heel accident with mine as it was a hoop and well just be careful with it.

Thank you for your feedback!

You are welcome.

Ok here is my only question about getting a clit peircing or hood peircing... How the hell are you suposed to feel comfortable enough to go to a place and spread your legs for some stranger and say "peirce me please"... Do they the peircers make house calls and spend time chatting and making you comfortable?? This is the only reason I dont have any peircings below the waist ... Lol Thankfully when I got my nipples peirced I knew the guy and he did it in the privacy of my own living room but refused to do anything else or fear that my mother would kill him because he is a family friend lol :D

It depends on the piercee. Some get the hood done. Others get the tender bit done.

As for the question of who would put themselves in that awkward position, and where would it be done...well there are some highly reputable piercing parlors and piercing/tattoo parlors that have private areas where they do these piercings. A reputable piercer would require that the piercee bring a witness/caretaker along to help them feel safe, secure, and make sure they can get home safely. There are a few people out there who do it professionally, and if they know you well, might be willing to come to your home, but still they might require a witness to be present.

Make sense?

Having, on more than one occasion, almost cracked a tooth on clit/hood piercings, I shall say, simply, I hope your playmates have good dental insurance.

as with the medical profession , generally there is a female nurse in the room during a gyno exam...so maybe this rule applies in piercings too?

They have other people in the building, but usually not in the room just like with tattooing the genitalia.

You could try getting a consultation with the piercer to make sure you are comfortable with him/her before getting the piercing.
That would also allow you time to ask any questions in advance.

I do NOT recommend having someone come to your home to pierce you.
I read that in the 1980s people into BDSM would hire a piercer to come to their home, but have no idea if they still to.
I have serious doubts about how safe and sterile it would be.

Here are a couple more websites:

Ouchies, didn't know it could hurt someone else. :(
I wouldn't want to feel good at the expense of my loved one's teeth.
Now I wonder if the same plastic used for protecting teeth from tongue piercings could be used on hood piercings to protect teeth chipping during dives.

I do know one thing...I wouldn't want a ring if my partner had a tongue stud.
Can you imagine the embarrassing 911 call if the jewelry got entangled?:jawdrop:
I bet that's something we'll never see on Emergency 911 or similar shows.

I am speaking as a tattoo artist and a piercer here... and since most people replying have had the piercing and I can see that you (the OP) have already gone ahead, I will skip over the "pre-lim" stuff.

Great info both times anonimouse!

As for your question ZoeyJayne... I have fielded that one a lot. I will start with saying-- **always** get to know your artist-- both piercer and tattoo artist. I have gone over this in my threat "so you want a tattoo". This is very important, not just for your comfort about being in a very exposed position on a personal level, but also for numerous safety and health reasons. If you do not have a good rapport with your artist, even for a "one off event" (single piercing, or only tattoo), it is not going to be as positive an experience for you as it can be.

Now, on another level... I can say this-- someone who is a professional piercer and/or tattoo artist **sees a LOT**. It is thier *job*. I am accenting this because in a way it is like asking about going to a Dr.

My work as a tattoo artist and a piercer dealt with people's bodies, being within thier personal space, and having physical contact with them in what is a very vunerable space. I, personally, do all I can to assure their comfort, both physically and emotionally. One way that I let people know that there is not a "sexual" aspect about this is that I am an *artist* one of my canvasses happens to be another person's body. Doing a hood piercing is really no different than doing a marilyn or an ear piercing. It is not meant to de-personalize them or the work, but to let them know-- a good artist is a **professional** who works with another person's body, and respects that it is a person's body-- but at the same time has a level of professional distance.

Especially if you take a bit of time to get to know your piercer in this case-- you will feel more comfortable with them. They will not be a "total stranger", and you will feel less exposed. It is also the clients responsibility to do what they can to help ensure a level of comfort... if you do NOT feel comfortable, then do NOT do it. Go elsewhere.

Remember, a professional piercer and tattoo artist will have seen a lot. When I tattooed someone's breast or bum-- it wasn't the first one I had seen. When I did a nipple piercing or a genital piercing, it also wasn't the first I had seen-- and even more-so, there was that professional distance. It was my job to safely and professionally preform the piercing. That was it. I did what I could to ensure that my clients were comfortable and ready, not only for the piercing (or tattoo) from a health standard, but also emotionally, to be in a vunerable position.

I just wanted to be able to answer that aspect. I hope this helps. :)

cheers

Once upon a time...about 16 or so years ago...I had my clit pierced in Boston at the Marquis deSade by Victoria. I don't know Victoria's name, but she was THE piercer back then. Good, professional, clean. I do not know if she made house calls, but mostly by the time she was done conversing with you about the details it was pretty okay.

Oh, and about house calls:

Even if you do find a piercer who is willing to do so, I would not recommend it at all.

First it would concern me about the level of professionalism of the piercer. A piercing and a tattoo are procedures that break the surface of your skin-- this is something that makes them "invasive procedures". I would be very alarmed if a Dr were to be willing to do an invasive procedure in my home-- and a piercing should be seen as nothing different.

Secondly-- one reason these are done in specific places are those are environments that can be controlled to a degree. They can be sterilized. A general home contains things such as carpets, drapes, ashtrays, porous surfaces, wood, etc. A home is also not cleaned with sterilizers-- especially the surfaces that are mentioned above. The environment cannot be as controlled as much as a good piercing studio.

While your level of comfort might be higher in your own home, your level of safety from infection is not.

When it comes down to it, for myself personally, I would rather take the time to find a person and shop I am comfortable with-- rather than risk a very very nasty infection resulting from a piercing anywhere, much less in the genital region, because of an unprofessional piercer or location.

All invasive procedures have a degree of risk. I had a piercing done by a professional piercer, former R.N., that was extremely well done, and the post care was also strictly followed. But, due to my job being in a very dirty and dusty environment, I got an infection. There was no way I could keep it 100% clean. I went back to the piercer and also a precautionary follow up with a Dr, and it was clear within a couple of days, and I am still happy with it today.

That is a risk-- and that was done in a professional and safe environment.

As a body artist.. I can tell you the horror stories I have seen when people have come in and shown me ones that were done at home, by someone who said "they knew how to pierce". There have been more than a couple of those that I have sent from my shop-- and straight to a hospital.

It is not worth it.

LOL I wouldn't know the answer as in my case I was dating my piercer and so she was between my legs the 1st time she did my eyebrow and it progressed from there. Needless to say I called her for house calls all the time sometimes for piercing and sometimes for her other skills. I felt much more comfortable at home verses the time I visited her at the shop and yes most tattoo artist and piercers I have known do moonlight and do private visits selectively--just don't ask at the shop cuz that's generally a policy no-no.

As for chipping teeth. Yeah I wouldn't want anyone biting me there so maybe having a hood ring doubles as a protection shield for those like me who do not likie teeth anywhere close to my goodies, but for those who do they make plastic piercings you can switch too after it heals.

I use plastic barbells on my tongue from time to time cuz I once kissing a girl who also had her tongue pierced and it did cost me a molar once a pond a time so I am very aware it can happen. Since I have 3 it just makes it ezier not to worry about biting into any of them or anything like that to go for plastic if I choice to wear them at all as I have had them soo long I can take them out and put them back in whenever I want too. However I love the click click click effect it has when I kiss someone with metal in my mouth which sounds even sexier when my femme is pierced downstairs as well.I once had a gf who had a corset going down and well we wore out alot of threading and I once shallowed 1 of my rings, but it was soo worth it.

The heel accident wasn't as hott, cuz that hurt and almost ripped mine off however I never thought a heel could get stuck on my clit ring till it happened. Oouch that is something I never want to relive again ever. Now I have a smaller ring I'll take out or put a barbell in when it come to 9in heels.

Good Luck with the piercing make sure to find a professional, Know that they are sterile/safe, follow after care, and enjoy. Hood/clit piercing are fun--so long as you take special care of them.

PS SM play piercing are usually done with total respect to safety. Not something a novice just decides they want to do. Most I have known do so as an extreme art form and are certified as professional piercers would be.
