I have recently had an MRI on my left shoulder and learned I have a partial tear. I have noticed that the pain becomes worse when I wear my bra (yes, I am a large breasted woman.) I am curious to know if this has happened to anyone else. Do you have advice? I do not really want to have surgery. Is there some type of bra out there that doesn't hang from the shoulder? I have no problem using my other shoulder to carry bags and my purse and such but the breast thing is a bit of a problem. Any positive advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Pwrfemme,
I am not a dr or in the medical field. I really would seek out the advice of someone in the homeopathic area or even maybe a physical therapist. That way you can learn to move and carry things without reinjuring yourself. I have no clue as to what bra's would be more beneficial to you.
I think if you give your shoulder time to heal, that is the outcome you really want. Surgery sucks.
The best of luck to you.

I saw some mention of strapless and single strap bras.

I would definitely try strapless or halter. I have pretty large breasts too but have found several nice strapless ones at Lasenza (do you have those in your area?) that give great support and look good still. Halters go around your neck so that might be more comfortable. And go for a proper fitting cuz the say 90% of the weight should be supported by the back strap so maybe finding a better fit would take the pressure off your shoulders. ( ah the things you learn on "what not to wear" lol)

I have had partial tears at different times in both right and left shoulders (partial rotator cuff tears). I was very glad I didn't have tears in both at the same time!
I can't advise you on what kind of bras would be good but, I will tell you one big thing that really helped me to heal. Don't sleep on the shoulder that has the tear. It took about a year for me to get better. Your body will create adhesions to try and patch up the tear. Just stay active or do simple exercises so your shoulder doesn't become "frozen" and don't do what ever it was you did to cause the tear in the first place. Also, a physical therapist might be helpful for a time. Good luck.

An alternative to strapless are comfort strap bras. They actually have much wider straps than ordinary bras, are usually padded (the straps, that is!) and are often designed to relieve neck and shoulder constriction. Just by way of example, if you are interested, take a look:

Good luck in your search!

Thank you TxCougar. I visited and ordered a strapless bra. I'll see if it helps.:)

I've tried the comfort strap bras without success thus far but thank you for the website. I will visit it and see if I can't find something helpful. All information is most appreciated.
Thanks

I am most definitely NOT sleeping on the bad shoulder, that is when I am able to sleep. I have become a big baby when it comes to pain. Don't like it and wish it would go away. I have been avoiding lifting with this arm and carry nothing on this shoulder along with being very protective of it. I see the dr. 12/26 about the MRI results so maybe he will recommend exercises.
Thank You :)

Cosmo_grrl I totally LOVE What Not to Wear! Okay I don't know if there is a Lasenza store here but I am going to do a search. I am okay with ordering online but you know it's just nicer to be able to try it on and hopefully get it right the first time.

For the pain, I was finally given a cortozone shot in one of my shoulder joints (ouch) but, it really made a difference. The ache went away.
