I do not know them, but sending my prayers and thoughts. Open heart surgery is a scary thing, but with all the advances of medicine my bet is on Doc. The one waiting is going to need all the support she can get..I have been in her position

(u) While it appears that Doc is suffering a medically induced broken heart, there is no doubt in our minds that it will be good as new very soon. (l) (Actually, it will be better than new.)

We have learned that Doc had rheumatic fever as a child, and it was left unattended by her parents (alcohol took precedence in their lives). Now, she must pay the price.

Apparently, the mitral valve is gone (this will be replaced with either pig valve or mechanical). The aorta is almost totally calcifie and the pulmonary valve is a leaker! More blood is going into her heart than is going out and the heart has become enlarged. Doc went from a 32 waist to a 42 waist in a matter of a few months. This was from all the water retention due to the congestive heart failure.

I know that our God will take care of all of us here in our home. I know that Doc will be fine. Look at the good fortune we've had with Tadpole. (He's back in school, by the way, and doing exceptionally well!)

Mother Teresa was want to say, "The Lord does not give us more than we can handle; I just wish he didn't trust me so much." I can relate to this saint right now. ;)

"THEY" also say, "When it rains, it pours." Well, I've got a friggin' torrential downpour here. If someone knows how to stop the rain, please call me!

Thank you so much for your continued support of my family and your continued prayers. Continue to pray to whomever it is that you believe will heal my family.

I will let you know as soon as we get a surgical date.

Milly

Consult with cardiac surgeon today resulted in a scheduling of the open heart procedure this coming Wednesday, April 19, 2006. While all surgeries are laden with unseen problems, we all feel confident that this will go well with a full recovery.

Doc's mitral valve will be replaced with a mechanical valve that will out last Doc! This is great news. The surgeon will have her up and walking Wednesday night, and home on Sunday (barring any unforseen problems).

Recovery is a minimum of 8 weeks and a maximum of 3 months. After 4 weeks, I can take her to the seashore to allow the salted air and the ocean water to help heal her chest and diminish her scar.

Please, keep my Doc and Tadpole in your prayers. All I ask for myself is that God continue to grant me with my father's strong constitution and good health! I promise to keep you all posted as things progress.

I love you all!

Good afternoon A/all.....

I just got off the phone with Milly*, and Doc is in her 2nd hour of surgery. They are performing a "mitral valve replacement", and are installing a mechanical heart valve. The surgery is expected to last 6 hours, and it is open heart surgery.

As of last night, "Doc's spirits are high, and her faith is strong" (a direct quote from an email I received last night from Milly*). The family's faith is strong, and they have left the outcome to God, and have made peace with however the surgery goes. Hopefully Doc will be discharged from the hospital Sunday.

I will try to get the hospital information from Milly the next time she calls with with an update of Docs progress, for anyone interested in sending cards or calling.

In the meantime,

Milly's email is: aspir8r@yahoo.com
and the familys email address is: the.wards@worldnet.att.net

and Im sure all emails and ecards will be greatly appreciated. Please remember that Milly* will be spending most of the next few days at the hospital and may not make it to a computer.

Good thoughts and prayers for Doc, Milly*, Tadpole, and the surgical team will be greatly appreciated, as always. Milly* is extremely grateful for everyones support, especially so close to their beloved Tadpoles recent bout with Leukemia.

~peace,
U_B

good evening A/all.....

I am extrodinarily happy to say that I just got off the phone with Milly* who was driving home after a long day at the hospital.

She said that Doc came through the surgery with flying colors!! Prior to surgery she had roughly 24-25 tubes going in and out, and she is currently down to 8. Her color was good, she has been bathed, had something to drink, and even managed to grouse at a nurse. (YAY!)

Everyones kind thoughts and prayers were greatly appreciated, and Milly* assured me that she will try to post an update tomorrow night after she gets home from the hospital. If she isnt able, I will try my best to keep the updates regular.

YAY!! for no more congestive heart failure!! Thank the g-ds for Docs surgical team and the hospital staff. My hat is off to them and their great work.

Hey folks, first of all, thank you so much for your continued love and support. There is no other group of chat friends on the internet as wonderful and caring as ours. Rhon did a good thing when hy built this site. I love hearing from all of you and I love that you care.

Now, Doc............

She was up in her chair, all night. Didn't sleep much. I don't know if any of you recall she had a broken neck repaired in September '04 and again January '05. When the operating staff had to hyper extend her neck for the intubation, apparently it strained her neck and she just didn't find comfort last night. Hey, just being in the chair was good.

This morning she ate breakfast, and had lots of liquids. I arrived to find her in tears...she was so happy to see me. (I think she loves me, eh?) We played cards and had lunch together. They moved her from CCU to ICU and finally, she got some good meds and went to sleep about 3 PM. I left so that I could spend the rest of the evening with Tadpole (who, by the way, is in the tub again).

We are all fine and I tell Doc of all of your notes and missives. (I can't print them out right now...no ink and I'm broke.) However, she will see them when she gets home.

I will continue to update as I can.

Love to all of you!

Wow, how do I tell you how today was? I got it!......Imagine, if you will, that you are a scrawny 98 lb. weakling and you are put into a title match with Hulk Hogan. The Hulkster comes out and the first punch is in your "bread basket." You fall to the ground, writing in pain, so afraid that you will die that you cannot breathe. After what seems like hours, you find your lungs again, but still fearful, only take small gulps of air. Well, I was in the ring today and I'm still looking for my lungs.

I almost lost my Doc today. A nurse, a contract nurse, overdosed Doc today and her blood pressure went to 50/30! The nurse was fired on the spot and the papers are in the works, as we speak, to have her license permanently suspended. Doc is fine now, and is sleeping. Her cardiologist left another patient waiting on the operating room table, (I'm certain this patient was attended to by others), and R A N to be at Doc's side. There was the possibility of him having to crack open that sternum again! After what seemd like eons, my Doc made a recovery and for that, I am forever grateful.

The Nursing Administrator contacted me and admitted fault and what actions were taken. This was not the only person admitting to me what happened. I have already decided to contact a malpractice attorney. The Chief of Nursing Operations is forwarding to me all reports regarding this grave incident, and has assured me that they are taking this incident quite seriously.

Bottom line: My Doc is fine. What would I do without her? I truly love her so.

Wow! Milly I am glad that Doc is ok after that. In my opinon I would definately contact a lawyer on that one. The fact that the hospital and the rest of the nursing staff is helping you with all the ammo you need to have this person lisense removed permantly is good. We as the public don't need Dr's or nurse's who are not aware of what is going on and can't listen and pay attention to notes and such. As always hun I am there with you in thought and my prayers are with all of you. You know how to get ahold of me if ya need me.

HOORAH!!! Doc came home on Tuesday, 4/25/06. Sore and hard to get around, but home nonethless. She is in much better spirits since she got here. Happy to be with her family (3 dogs, 3 cats, me and Tadpole).

She is moving slowly and in a medium amount of pain, but still ok. Her appetite is good and she is walking a lot. Due to the surgery itself, it is difficult to take deep breaths, so for now, she is on oxygen until she heals properly.

Thank you all for your love, support and prayers for our family. We appreciate all of you.

Doc has just not healed as well as we had thought. The cardiologist thought that the overdose episode right after surgery, and the subsequent vomiting it caused, may have caused the wires holding the sternum to the ribs to separate. So, off to the thoracic surgeon and x-rays. (The heart surgery has mended perfectly...this is strictly the bones now that we must deal with.)

As soon as we entered, the dr. said that he felt the o.d. and the throwing up was the definite cause of the separation. He was so adamant about this, that he told us he would not allow another patient to be treated at that hospital. While the Heart Hospital does not accept certain insurances, he had already used Doc's case as grounds to get special dispensation for other patients to have their surgeries at the Heart Hospital. This is what he is in the process of doing for Doc as we speak. It looks like the week of June 5th he will once again go into Doc's chest and re-wire the sternum to the ribs. The healing process begins at ground zero again.

Please, keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. We need you.

I will update you as it is warranted.

Love to all!

Milly,
It's good that they know what is wrong and are going to fix it now, even if Doc has to begin the healing process (in the sternum) over again. It's a blessing the heart surgery went well. I was reading tonight that Charlie Rose just had a mitral valve surgery, and is doing well. Thank G-d for the medical technology that's available today.
I had open heart surgery, 35 and a half years ago, and here I am. ;)
I will keep Doc, and your family in my thoughts and prayers. (l)

(y) The surgeon went to bat for Doc and the insurance company agreed. Doc is going to have her next surgery on June 13th at THE HEART HOSPITAL! :D This is great news, by the way.

What we've been told is, the surgeon will go into the chest, rewire the sternum to the ribs and give Doc another six weeks healing time and then back to work half-days. Please, let's all keep a positive thought that this will be the surgery to help my Doc finally heal. (y)

Thanks for all of your prayers and positive thoughts throughout this long ordeal. We both thank you and love you all!
