Morning All ~ I've emerged from my too-much-sleep-spring-clean-shuffle-about-sulking-in-my-jimjams weekend :$ (not by choice i might add, but needs must) (w)
Mlle Robin ~ I saw Suzan Lori Parks last week at UMass. I'd love to see her speak again but I have to attend a lecture here this afternoon.
Have fun at the ballet, I adore the Joffrey!

LOL Lady C.S., I can see you now, measuring tape in hand, then wheeling about to an assistant and yelling, "SMALL, another SMALL here" ... eeeeyes... I like it! To be sure, I can picture you at a later point greeting said actor/dancer... "Hello Tiny.. um.. I mean Tony..."
Oh ... before I go:

^o) :| ooo its so quite in here....
The ballet was fabulous last night! Three great pieces. Had a wonderful dinner before hand with the lovely FoxyMsMoxie and then strolled over (ok hurried over, it was cold as heck!) to the FAC to meet up with Mr Bone and Miss R who both looked smashing by the by.
Mr. Bone and I are keen on having an outing to the Met for a little opera. I am actually going this Saturday (La Traviata) but I also think a group venture could be fun :D
Any opera fans about? Opera sympathsizers? Closeted opera curious types? Or perhaps any "I have never been and as such I would never make sweeping 'ugh! opera!' judgement, hey it could be fun.." types about? ... Ponder a trip.;)

I went to the Opera once with my fav NYC gay boy, David
he loved taking an "opera virgin" and I fear I disappointed him, I fell asleep!
The chairs and the darkness whisked me away into a delicious slumber, what can I say?
The music was very, uh, relaxing....
anyway, I'm 1/2 way interested in trying again with a bunch of B-F ers
I promise not to snore! |-)
p.s. note to GB, I know its considered dangerous, in these parts, but I was wearing a NY hat in my incognito pic :o truth be told, I could care less about baseball but I enjoy the camaraderie and the chaos of the stadium
the last time I really paid attention to anything that happened in a stadium was PRINCE at half time SuperBowl, he's my guitar hero these days (8)

Hey, you don't have to go all the way to the Met for good opera! I've seen several great productions with Connecticut Opera--faves being Aida and Carmen. I can usually get comps or discount tickets on productions my mom is in, too! :D
My enjoyment of opera has greatly improved since super-titles came into regular use!!

I would love to go with you to see your mother perform, Holliday! Normally I'm not an opera fan but I'll give it a shot if there's a context. What do you think of supertitles? I saw a play about the Marquis de Sade in Swedish and I couldn't read the titles and watch the stage at the same time.

What a handsome suit, 1, S1! MsMoxie, you looked stunning as always. :) I never get enough of seeing two butches in suits. You and the Bone looked great together.
I never saw the Joffrey before. They were amazing. I heard Little Deuce Coupe this morning on my Ipod at the gym and thought of the ballet. A Twyla Tharp piece set to Beach Boys music -- that was a blast!
Is anyone going to the Stonewall Center meeting tonight about the gay bashing? I'm not stepping a foot out of this house again. It is too freakin' cold.
BikerB, I used the clippers for the first time this morning on Roxy the patient poodle. I shaved her face with a #10. She looks a little shrewish (rather than Jewish) but at least I got the feel for the clippers.

Miss Robin-- supertitles=awesome! For me, anyway. I used to fall asleep part way through operas (granted, I was very young--probably too young to be sitting through a whole one). With supertitles, I can follow the story. I always get a synopsis beforehand, but it's still nicer to know what's going on blow-by-blow.
I'll see if she's in either of the upcoming productions and get back to you.

For those with an interest, these are some of the operas that are in the spring. They do have week day showings but I have only gathered info for the weekends.
Rossini's Il Barbiere Di Siviglia (You know The Barber of Seville... Bugs Bunny did it quite well as I recall;) ) Opera virgins will recognize a lot of the music. It is a comic opera that lasts about 3 hrs.
Saturday, March 24, 2007, 1:30 pm
Saturday, May 5, 2007, 8:00 pm
Friday, May 11, 2007, 8:00 pm
Handel's Giulio Cesare - the story of Caesar & Cleopatra. It is 4 hours
Friday, April 13, 2007, 7:30 pm
Tuesday, April 24, 2007, 7:30 pm
Friday, April 27, 2007, 7:30 pm
Puccini's Turandot- What's not to love about a blood thirsty princess that decapitates her suitors? Set in China and said to be composed of "brash, wild, and thrilling choral and orchestral strokes." It is about 3 hrs.
Friday, March 30, 2007, 8:00 pm
Saturday, April 14, 2007, 1:30 pm
Saturday, April 21, 2007, 8:30 pm
Saturday, April 28, 2007, 8:30 pm
Puccini's Il Trittico - Three short one act operas basically taking an extensive view of humanity. It is about 3 and a half hours.
Friday, April 20, 2007, 8:00 pm
Saturday, April 28, 2007, 1:30 pm
Friday, May 4, 2007, 8:00 pm
Saturday, May 12, 2007, 8:00 pm
Most of the tickets that are left are in the "family circle" and are typically about $42-50.
So, that is a start.

Yes I would agree. I hear it features the Mets most extravagant sets and costumes. ( and speaking of scenery, Andrea Gruber who plays Turandot and Hei-Kyung Hong as Liu are, well, exceedingly easy on the eyes!!) ;) :D
I was wondering if we could link the two events together into one trip as well. Would it conflict with whatever BF event is happening in the city? I am not in the loop as to exactly what is happening when.
Holliday, yes find out what is happening in your mom's neck of the woods as well!

Cosi Fan Tutte (pardon my lack of accents, etc.)

Sunday, March 4, 2007 at 2:00 pm
Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 7:30 pm
Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 8:00 pm
Sung in Italian with English Translations
"Women are like that!"
Deceivers learn their lessons the hard way. Don Alfonso makes a bet with Guglielmo and Ferrando that their fiancées, Fiordiligi and Dorabella (who are sisters), can't remain faithful, because "women are like that" (così fan tutte). To prove their friend wrong, the men disguise themselves and court the other's fiancée, confident they will be rejected. At stake is a large sum of money to Don Alfonso if they are not. Are the women faithful? Do the couples survive the test? In some productions, the couples are reconciled; in others, they are not. We're not telling how ours ends! Come see for yourself.

Sung in Italian with English Translations
"Love alone instructed me to play
out the role."
Deceiving an old fool turns into happiness for young lovers. Ernesto loses his inheritance when he rejects the bride his uncle Don Pasquale has chosen for him. Disappointed, Pasquale decides to take a wife himself. Ernesto feels all is lost, until Dr. Malatesta suggests a plot to trick the old man into a change of heart. The Doctor convinces Pasquale to marry his docile niece "Sofronia" (in reality Ernesto's beloved Norina). Immediately after the vows, the bride becomes an annoying shrew. Angered, Pasquale annuls the marriage. When he's let in on the "joke," he tells Ernesto he can have Norina—and his inheritance.

My 1st choice for a Met opera would also be Turandot--but I can't see how we could fit it into the NY weekend, either. Trying to do it the weekend just before might be kind of crazy, too. The Barber of Seville would be my 2nd choice. Julius Ceaser I have no desire to ever see. I studied it in college and the music isn't all that interesting. (n) Plus, the Ceaser role is supposed to be played by a castrato. In Handel's day, that was the height of masculinity. :|

LOL Well Musicfemme, I agree it is sometimes best to certain things private.
And the Met... swoon....Personally I think the Met is like being in a fairy tale. Dressing to the 9's, a wonderful dinner prior to, and off to the Met for Tosca, La Traviata, Turandot, La Boheme or M Butterfly. Oh my, that sort of night makes me feel like I died and went to heaven! I didn't grow up with access to these sort of things so it is particularly fairy taleish for me. I am not a fan of NYC, but I do love some of the cultural things that it offers. .. and then I like to come right back home.
We will keep you posted re: the tag sale.

I need to be part of this junk removal plan. I had a tag sale last summer and Rob ran the whole thing while I made sure we had food and coffee and we made $600 mostly selling off my ex's OCD tool collection.
It's freezing out but I see bright yellow goldfinches flitting around the trees. That's a hopeful sign that soon I can wear dresses without freezing.

Maybe I should start a virgin thread? A criterion would be a virgin of something you want to do, rather than wanting to retain perpetual virginity (like me and spectator sports. Do u think I'm a Nasty Girl?"

A virgin thread? You mean ... like I would be a Tuscany virgin or ahhh.. a Volcano virgin? ... :-* You know, until recently I was a Blue Heron virgin:| its true...
Here is my Blue heron virgin story:
Well, I went there with Glinda the good femme about a month ago. She had been there numerous times, I don’t mean to suggest that she is some sort of restaurant hopper or gastronomically promiscuous or anything like that. Actually, she was very gentle. At first I was afraid that the food, well you know, might be too much for me. But we took our time and I began to feel at ease. While I did find the appetizer was a little uncomfortable at first, as the meal progressed, I found that it was very good.

Making 600 bucks from a tag sale helps if you have an ex with OCD and a compulsive-spending habit. On the day of the tag sale, my front lawn was Home Depot Jr. There were multiples of things you don't need one of. I was the coffeeanddonutsatrix while Rob was salesbutch extraordinaire.

Hey, my butch and I have a need for some things and we need them probably before tag sale time. We are about to be foster parents to 2 queer teenagers, and we have been collecting stuff for a couple of months now. But we still need one twin bed frame (we have found head boards) twin sheets, towels, comfortors for 2 twin beds, curtains, and small area rugs, oh and 2 pillows, and cd/radio players for each kid. Perferably with headsets! YEs, I know target and walmart has these things, but you see, Ive been sick for a solid month now, with no sick pay at my job. to say money is tight is ludicrous. Im about to get back to work- hopefully as early as next weeek, but the kids will probably be here berfore we are back on our feet. So, if you have any of this stuff just laying around that you wouldnt mind giving us- heck, we will even be able to pay you for it in a few months, just not now, that would be awesome.

Hey Northamptonites
(1.S1 - taking the week off from opera, Shakespeare, virgins and the like to revisit her roots)
Happy week of Irish celebrations to all of my Irish and non Irish friends!
I know that as we move towards St. Patrick’s Day a variety of emotions and opinions come up. Perhaps, like me, St. Patrick the man and Catholicism are not high on your list of things to celebrate! Perhaps the idea of LGBT exclusion from St. Patrick’s Day parades doesn’t sit well. Either way I personally can’t ditch the entire holiday, when it seems the perfect venue to revisit, share and celebrate the many of important aspects of Irish culture.
There is an awful lot of history behind the necessity to celebrate Irish culture, food, music, language, dance, literature and history. It really isn’t just about a parade, green beer, and all of the other tacky crap that pops up when holidays and celebrations are co-opted or capitalized on. (I hate the “everybody is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day” it is just an excuse for knuckleheads to get drunk)
Anyway, in recognition of the week, here is one of several wee tid bits I will share. Did you know that wearing green could have gotten you executed at one time? Well if you were Irish and believed in Irish freedom, showing that, might have been enough to get you killed.
The Wearing of the Green
(We hear the song every St. Patrick’s Day… do you know what it is about?)
During Irish rebellion against England the late 1700’s, (one of many historical rebellions) England basically practiced what amounted to state terrorism in Ireland, burning homes, using all manner of torture, and murdering those supporting Irish freedom from England.
At this time, green was the color of the Society of United Irishmen a revolutionary organization. Wearing a shamrock in ones hat was an outward sign of rebellion and was severely punished. Those caught displaying revolutionary colors or insignia were routinely and methodically hung.
The song, The Wearing of the Green is not just as jaunty little ditty played by marching bands on St Patrick’s day. Most folks have no about the lyrics to this song as the only time many of us hear it, is when it is being played by a marching band. So… hear they are.
O Paddy dear, and did ye hear the news that's goin' round?
The shamrock is by law forbid to grow on Irish ground!
No more Saint Patrick's Day we'll keep, his color can't be seen
For there's a cruel law ag'in the Wearin' o' the Green.
I met with Napper Tandy*, and he took me by the hand
And he said, "How's poor old Ireland, and how does she stand?
She's the most distressful country that ever yet was seen
For they're hanging men and women there for the Wearin' o' the Green.
So if the color we must wear be England's cruel red
Let it remind us of the blood that Irishmen have shed
And pull the shamrock from your hat, and throw it on the sod
But never fear, 'twill take root there, though underfoot 'tis trod.
When laws can stop the blades of grass from growin' as they grow
And when the leaves in summer-time their colour dare not show,
Then will I change the colour, too, I wear in my caubeen**
But 'till that day, please God, I'll stick to wearin' o' the Green.
But if at last our colour should be torn from Ireland's heart,
Her sons with shame and sorrow from the dear old isle will part;
I've heard a whisper of a land that lies beyond the sea
Where rich and poor stand equal in the light of freedom's day.
O Erin, must we leave you driven by a tyrant's hand?
Must we ask a mother's blessing from a strange and distant land?
Where the cruel cross of England shall nevermore be seen,
And where, please God, we'll live and die still wearin' o' the green!
* James Napper Tandy and Irish rebel leader
** Hat
That ends my tid bit sharing for today.

Hi there Northamptonites (and those who love them),
I saw this discussion and thought it was interesting. The Wearing of the Green song lyrics are about part of what were known as the Penal Laws in Ireland, exacted against the Catholics, and in some cases Presbyterians too.
Here's a link: The Penal Laws (http://homepage.eircom.net/~earrings/penal_laws.html)
The Romans and later the British looked at the Irish as barbarians and made cartoons of them as being monkeys living in squalor, but pre-Christian Ireland had a system of laws that some countries still don't have now. They are called the Brehon laws. Very interesting stuff. Women had more rights in fifth century AD Ireland than they did in 19th century America, or most of the world.

About the carnations, my sister has said, "if it is a carnation do even think about giving it to me." She has a very low opinion about carnations and I make a rule of thumb to ask they not be included in a bouquet when ordering flowers for anyone not only just my sister.I am not sure what the issue is, I am just playing it safe.

and "schmuck" is penis in both Yiddish and Hebrew.
And in German it means jewelry. I thought it was hilarious the first time I went to Germany and saw Schmuck written on stores selling ... uh ... tiny baubles. ;) I wonder what a "butch penis" would be called in Yiddish -- a schmuckala maybe. (What would "huge" be in Yiddish).

Sorz lasses and lads ~ that was rather a bah-humbug response of mine earlier this a.m......:$
There are things about my heritage that I do love....
I love the music...i get all tingly and excited when I hear a fiddle or the many-part-harmony of some of my favourite ballads or even the wild revelry of my mates and their favourite drinking songs (after far too many pints)....
And for the lovely foxxiemsmoxxie:
So come all you jolly young fellows
I'd have you take warning by me
Whenever you're out on the liquor, me lads,
Beware of the pretty colleen.
She'll fill you with whiskey and porter
Until you're not able to stand
And the very next thing that you'll know, me lads,
You're landed in Van Dieman's Land.

i love the people of Ireland - north and south of the border.
they're good humour, they're generosity, they're friendliness
and i love the land itself. it is so diverse and so beautiful.

Morning All ~
Twas great to see you (drvnsnow & Bruno, Mlle Robin & STB, Beeeeeeeee & Dapper) Saturday eve. Cafe Lebanon was fab :D
1,S1 ~ ta for the lessons! :) My family is from County Kerry.
When I lived in the UK I learned more about the ongoing "conflict" (i like to call it war, silly me) in Northern Ireland, than I had previously understood. I have to say I vaccilated between :@:@:@ and :'(:'(:'( The recent "incidents" at Ardoyne Road re: Holy Cross School were happening when I was there. :'(
There was nothing more horrifying to me than witnessing that violence, seeing enraged animalistic adults throw bottles and rocks at terrified children shook my faith in humanity ---and witnessing the baton of hatred and violence as it was passed to another generation was heart breaking.
Anyway, I find it difficult to discuss these issues (this side of the pond) because I find most Americans do not have a clear picture of what is happening there (and has happened). They tend sugar-coat Irish history and culture and they tend to glamourize the violence that the IRA represents, in the name of another pint o' guiness (and all that green plastic tat) ---- and that makes me :@:@:@
violence begets violence. period.
blahblahblah. good morning. (more coffee needed as my brain is just awaking)
ps. to the Eire-philes I'd recommend reading Peter Hamil's works. For fiction loves I'd recommend "Forever" - Wonderful Book!

That’s great. Always something that I wanted to do formally. Gaelic for me is a self taught sort of thing …which leaves a lot of holes in the intricacies to say the very least!
My Dad grew up in NYC actually and picked up a lot of words and sayings in his neighborhood. As a little kid, I knew we were Irish and I just figured that what ever he was saying must have been Gaelic. So imagine my surprise to learn that things like “oy”, “putz”, “kvel”, “kvetsh”, “schmuck”, “mitsve”, “shmendrek”, “shmuz”, “mishigas”, and “nodnik” , didn’t really belong to my people! LOL

Good morning LSC
Country Kerry is it then! Lovely
There is a lot of misinformation and lack of information on the subject to be sure. A couple of movies and the knowledge that your family has Irish roots, can rile people up before they really know much of anything about the issue. For many folks their Irish history begins around 1916 or the early 1970’s!
The continuing conflict in Ireland and in other countries speaks to both the inhumanity of human beings as well as our on going efforts towards change. Wish things would change more quickly!:'(

Is anyone going to see The Tempest tonight at the Fine Arts Center? It's in French with supertitles. I wonder if the supertitles are in Old English? I would love to see it.
Nancy, that's a good call on No Carnations. Do they exist in real life? Are they real flowers? I think they're dreadful, poor things.

what, are we all vying to be the colleen this morning? all the irish lasses online at once? my dad had dreams of me being the colleen. i could not stand the concept of pagents and glitz and waving and riding on a float--but i did enjoy saying "there's my dad!" during the parade every year. i wanted to play field hockey and take ballet, instead i got irish step dance lessons. which i promptly quit as soon as i gave it a decent "eye roll, fine, i tried it, are you satisfied?" hmm...i got force fed a tad of irish food and culture, but the actual history and significance of the "conflict" was something i never had a real understanding or appreciation for. i'm horrifed now, as i remember the green food coloring and green (gasp!) carnations and green everything from back in the day. unfortunately, even growing up 2nd generation, a house full of irish flags, st brigid, and a shamrock on the mailbox and the irish hour on the radio every weekend, i got the sugarcoated glamourization version of our history, and about how "irish and dogs need not apply"--but the background and true history of the conflict was something i never absorbed. good thing i know people now who have helped me understand my own heritage!

Nope, certainly not Gaelic....
Those words mean lazy, fuck around, crazy people, pain in the arses, complaining and "schmuck" is penis in both Yiddish and Hebrew. I think "Oy" or "Oi" is universal though.
Now what would be interesting is a Gaelic-Yiddish dialect.
This was always a favourite of mine I'd hear from my great uncle:
Gai kaken oifen yam... which means go take a dump in the ocean. :s

LOL yes, I had the meaning down... but as a child the origin was a wee bit skewed! Still, it made me appear just a tiny bit ahead of the "goy curve" with my Jewish girlfriends over the years. My ex wifes mother always used to say Gai kaken oifen yam ! Usually while yelling at the TV when various right wing politicians were spouting off.

Oi!
:D
i love the people of Ireland - north and south of the border.
they're good humour, they're generosity, they're friendliness
and i love the land itself. it is so diverse and so beautiful.
(l)
but I could live without the food..(no more blanched out corned beef please)
and I could live without the religion (EX-catholic checking in) and without the politics and the violence etc. as stated before...
I Hear you LadyCS!
I give (y) (y) to traditional music, literature, dance, humor, spirit, and beer the way beer should be! (not to mention those fine Irish lasses! OMG;) As for religion, the place was better off in my opinion prior to Mr.St. Patrick and his lot going about mucking up the works with Christianity...(not that I was there then mind you...I'm not THAT old!:| )
LOL blanched out corned beef! When I was last there, the food wasn't as bad as I expected. We had a lot of nicely prepared salmon and some rather tasty stews. Perhaps as the food improves, so too will good will.
Speaking of good will, I think Will said:
Now good digestion wait on appetite, And health on both!
And Madeleine L'Engle noted “That's something I've noticed about food: whenever there's a crisis if you can get people to eating normally things get better.”_
So perhaps there is something to it...
As for war and religion:
“There's no reason to bring religion into it. I think we ought to have as great a regard for religion as we can, so as to keep it out of as many things as possible."
"The military mind is indeed a menace. Old-fashioned futurity that sees only men fighting and dying in smoke and fire; hears nothing more civilized than a cannonade; scents nothing but the stink of battle-wounds and blood."
Sean O’Casey
Oh, and in honor of your theatrical side Lady CS:
"All the world's a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed."
O'Casey as well.
I wonder where on earth this post is going to show up... roll of the dice it seems :|

I hear that many computers TV's and the like are having difficulties, as the day light savings time was set three weeks early this year (apparently the government made some random decision to do that for some reason..:s ) So you may have noticed that though your tv or computer may be programmed to automatically reset it's clock, it may not have happened yet. I know that DPH is having major difficulties with this.
Perhaps this website is having the same or similar problems.

Ok so here is an interesting little Irish factoid:
The Republic of Ireland has had 8 presidents, 2 of which have been women. The current president Mary McAleese, was not only the first person born in Northern Ireland to be elected president in the Republic of Ireland, but she was also the first legal advisor for the Campaign for Homosexual Law Reform in the 1970’s. When she left that position, she succeeded by Mary Robinson, who, 8-) as we all know I'm sure, was the first female President of Ireland.

Hummm well…. um… sitting on the machines shouldn’t be a real problem if you are clothed…. You are clothed right?? And the handy new work out gloves should give you a bit of a barrier between yourself and the leftover/abandoned cooties left behind by the cootie infested. I don’t think you need to design a saran work out suit just yet hon!
People are “supposed” to wipe down machines when they are finished with them. I never trust that that they do (suspicious untrusting sort that I am) so I do it before I work out. Usually only on the treadmill and the like where people are more apt to … um… perspire… +o(
Hey foxymsmoxie, don’t forget about your cootie combating shower flip flops as well! Of all of the cootified places at the gym, the shower floors and benches creep me out the most (not to give your already “neurotic” tendencies any more fuel for the fire…):|
And YES to Purell. I used to use it when I taught dance classes all day and had to be touching everybody's hands. All of my staff used purell after each class. We were a clean lot!:D

Hi, everybody. Tonight I am the bearer of bad news...
The housewarming party is a no go for tomorrow--Nohofemme and I don't want any of you slipping around in the nasty weather. The new date is March 23 (aka next Friday), same time. No need to RSVP unless you can't make it on the new date.
Sidenote: I have far too much yummy food already purchased that will go bad by next week, so if anybody with ambition and/or AWD wants to get snowed in over here, please come! Board games and fuzzy slippers required.

Hope everyone is managing in the snow storm. I was driving on 91 today and there were 2 accidents about a half mile apart from each other, one going South one going North....Traffic was tied up for a good bit.
Why is it than when one goes to the gym and pumps all that heavy iron that you feel as though your arms should look like Popeye... but they don't .... the way they feel...they really should!! Grrr.
Speaking of the gym, I almost snapped a trainer with a towel today!:| ...lol another inch Miss R.... :D
Be safe all

Hey MsMoxie ,glad you found a new gym and that you are going. Keep up the good work, which gym did you end up joining universal or the Y?
Music... Happy almost birthday to you, i hope you get everything you want and your day is spectacular.
S1, it usually takes 12 week of consistent working out, 3 times a week with weights and 4 to 5 times a week cardio. Free weights will give you much better results than machines. plus of course the hard part is what foods you are eating, thats the hardest part for me, i love french fries and gummy bears, just 2 of my weaknesses..lol Lifting heavier weights with less reps will also give you that popeye look ..if thats what you are looking for. Feel free to PM if you want more inof. I hear you are a great dance instructor by the way.
Green eyes.. glad you found a dog walker, I would offer my help but I work an hour an 20 mins away from here...for a couple more months anyway. I could help out on the weekends if you need me. PM me if I can help out.
Holliday, yeah the weather is pretty nasty out there, see you next week, thanks for the PM. Speaking of snow, I have to go shovel before it mixes with that awful sleet and freezing rain. Stay safe everyone. LK

Sad there as no housewarming tonight--but it was treacherous out even by early this afternoon. And it doesn't help that people drive like complete idiots in the snow. I had this one red car about a foot away from my rear bumper for MILES. I was like, what on earth are you THINKING?!? :@

i will slay the dragons of gymphobia with my pretty pink new gym back and cootie and callous preventative gloves (thanks (k) s1).
but ewwww--i'm still so grossed out by the idea of sitting on and touching all those weight machines! i'll wrap myself in saran or somesuch and pretend i'm trying to accelerate the fat burning process instead of being neurotic about the cootie factor.
A good workout outfit makes such a difference! Ms Moxie, really, don't worry about the cooties. I've been going to gyms since I was 16 and since I'm superstitious I won't say anything without knocking on wood but let's just say, you probably encounter more germs pulling open the front door at Thorne's. Now gyms have those alcohol wipes, but DON'T USE THEM, they completely destroy your nails. I carry a little towel and I don't touch my face until I've washed my hands.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that sent me names and numbers for dog walkers. Lucky went to the park today with his new friend and came back a happy little guy. I don't feel so guilty about not being able to take him there and play with him.
Which park do you (with a well foot) take your dog to? I have two poodles and Rob has a maltipoo and herding dogs love them because they do all the running and the collie does all the herding and everyone goes home exhausted. I had a bird named Lucky. I love that name for critters, though we're the lucky ones to have them. And yes to what GB said about joining us all.

I called 911 to report the accident. I hope is ok despite his craziness. Hope everyone is staying safe and keeping warm, speaking of the gym, I am off to work out myself. How fun that everyone sang. I was in a big NYC movie theater once and before the trailers started, a guy stood up and said it was his boyfriend's birthday and would we all sing happy birthday. The boyfriend was so embarrassed, but it was wonderful. An entire huge movie theater of people singing to someone they didn't know. Birthdays will do that. When I brew up a pot,

Organic Italian dark roast,

The taste rich and fine,
The aroma divine,
I would miss it with my morning toast.

Hello everybody!
My lovely friend Jenn (aka Pussy Bojangles) has suggested forming a femme contingency to march in the Noho Pride parade (like Boston's Mad Femme Pride). We are looking to see how many femmes would be interested in participating before registering. I, for one, would march all by myself...but it'd be nicer with company. ;) You know--any excuse to dress up and show off. (a)

I think we need a sponsor and a float. Or maybe we can hijack a float and add to its beauty by our presence, like the drag queens do. Or better yet -- why don't we find a butch with an opened-back truck and we can make it look pretty and have banners on the sides! (we can promote the local b/f list -- but Nohofemme and I would have to screen really carefully who wants to sub.)
Teddy, Rob and I are going to be at the Holyoke mall this afternoon -- a place we both dread but sometimes you just have to go there. Have fun while you're in the 'hood.

Lady C-when do i get to see those shoes in real life? they are amazing in the pic!!
today it is running around day...but i can't seem to get to the running around part, i'm enjoying my sleeping in/late/lazy start and (gasp) decaf too much. yesterday i gathered items together for the big tag sale...today is chapter 2 of the same, if i ever stop drinking decaf and get offline....
Good Morning Good Morning
Sorry I missed 'tini night!
I was having a catch-up supper with a friend and it ran over (o)
Have a lovely day all!
Ooooo and Teddy! How long will you be in town?
I have a Doc. appt at half-two, so I'll probably be finished by 3/3.30 ~ I'm guessing you and G have some plans?
I'll check in with him! :)

That was a fun 'tini night. :)

OMG, sorry I missed 'tini night as well. I'm glad I said I was only 75% sure about coming. Work has been horrendous lately. I suspect I may be fired soon, and one of my co-workers quit this week. I have been really, really drained and driving up to Noho Wednesday night just didn't feel do-able to me.

Hi MsM. I'm here! The last few days were a little hectic: Mister Bone put down a new bathroom floor for me and then we both groomed one of the poodles. She looks a little weird. Her legs are too skinny and she has a moustache that rivals Einstein's. I think she's wondering why she had to go first. We saw a GREAT movie -- The Lives of Others at Amherst. What have you been up to?
Holliday and Nohofemme (en b/f absentia), the housewarming party was really lovely. I love your house-decorating touches Miss Holliday. You definitely put the "fem" in feminine. Your room is a perfect blend of girl and queer.
BikerB, I hear you arrived after we left with your little poodle in tow! I missed her :'(.

Thursday a.m. aqua class?
Can't do tomorrow as I have a crazy busy work day
I'm sorry a friend of yours has passed! Sending you much love!!!! (l)(l)(l)
Do you need supplies? <aka sesame chicken, soft soft tissues and some bubbly>
the good thing to happen to me today:
* i received a fabulous LETTER (like in an envelope with a bunch of stamps) & wee-prezzie from my mate in Brisbane (l)(l)(l) an unexpected & lovely suprise!
strangest kitty behaviour today:
Poo-Tossing
!!!
I mean REALLY!
why? (@)+ (@)why?
(2x) tonight I have come to find a single piece of litter-encrusted (YUM!) poo that has clearly been launched out of the box and landed across the room.
And please note: the litter gets sifted and changed once a day.
What is this crazy cat behaviour????????? why? has anyone experienced this?

Wow...it is a bad time for folks. (((((((MsMoxie))))))))) I'm sorry about all the sadness. I was very upset last week, too, because my cat had to be put to sleep. Just ask Miss Robin & STB--they had to listen to my sob story while trapped in Home Depot! :$
And poop-tossing! The Nasty Boys... That's a new one in my book, Lady C. Do they share one litterbox? It might be territorial if they are picky about sharing.
Thanks for the offer, GB! I'll email them to you tomorrow and you can work your magic. :) Eventually I'd like to learn how to do it myself, too.

Monsieur Louis ratted on his (@) counterpart when he pawed him in the face then looked at you and did his silent meow!
Holliday may have a point about the sharing the litter box.... but I dunno...seems odd because the toss of the poo is a new thing and they have been sharing everything since the beginning.

Hello to all.
I am/have been a little out of touch recently. I accepted the position of Sous Chef at the Jewish Retreat Center, Isabella Freedman in Connecticut. It is so, so, beautiful there. It is a perfect place for me to work on my stuff. Music, writing, health and culinary pursuits. I am learning how to survive in a Kosher kitchen. Very exciting.
Holliday & Noho: Heard your party was lovely. Sorry about the kitty.
GB: Great to hang with you today. Can't wait until Friday... Lindsey Buckingham
Biker: So sorry, things have been super crazy with job drama this month, forgot to call. But if you would like to go to the concert on Friday, show up at 6:30pm with a white shirt and black pants, kind of casual/dressy. You can work the show with GB and I. I will be arriving probably right on time, as I am traveling from CT.
Lady C: Always lovely to talk with you.
Ms R & Stone: Great pics from Tini night!
Mox: Sorry to hear about your friend.

MsMoxie, credit where credit is due -- Mister Bone put the floor in. I just had the meltdown about going to Home Depot where yes, I received an even worse meltdown call -- but justifiably so -- from poor Holliday about her kitty. That was really sad. At the time of the call I was in the sander aisle asking an impatient guy (our H.D. butch's shift ended) if I could use a "cordless Dremel" on my poodles' toenails. I was irritated that he was not impressed that I knew what a "cordless Dremel" was! (from my e-list: Poodle Support Group.) And then Holliday called and when I turned to Rob and said with a gasp, "_____'s cat died!," you could see the guy's jaw clenching. We needed our butch. She would have understood.
I'm so sorry to hear about a friend dying, MsMoxie, and family members ill. Please call me anytime you want to get out of the house or work and come over or have a coffee.

yoga is at the Y. having been a virgin until oh so recently, i can't speak to the skill or technique of the class/instructor, but i do know i really liked it. ain't that what it's all about??
i took today off from work! WHEEE!!!! hookey--i turned an important mid-day doctor appt into a whole entire sick day! whoo hoo. (holy shit. maybe i am really ill, cuz i don't feel sick with guilt) and am about to go play now. hope everyone else is well.

Happy NoWork Day, MsMoxie! Yes, liking the yoga is what it's all about. :)
About the ... (clearing my throat) ... "Cordless Dremel." I know power tools for poodle usage. Can I impress you with my Andis Single-Speed Clipper with a #10 blade?
Oh, a stud finger (I'm gonna leave that typo)... stud FINDER, we must have a good one in Noho since we have our very own studs. ;)
I would like to make up my own power tools. Like something that could take the nail polish mistakes off my cuticles and fingers without wrecking my nails. Or get under the stove and find the thing the dog keeps whining for. (the list is endless).

Hi, 1, S1. I'm here.
They're heerrrrre.... remember that from Poltergeist? Tumbleweeds make me think of the scariest Twilight Zone I ever saw. But I was about 6 so my scary-o-meter was pretty low.
Tomorrow night Rob and I are meeting The C*nt (can't write it) and her butch Gwen at Divas for the O.L.D. It's a fundraiser for Pride so 1, Dapper 1 will be there maning the Pride booth. (do I really have to write "womaning"? or worse, "wominnning" .. how about "wombening" :|) And Dr. Beeeee will be there as well (I'm guessing since she'll be in town but maybe not 'til Sat.)
Please come on out everyone. Afterward at Divas is a "Hot Body" contest.
:P <--just kidding. But some of us might don gas masks and throw-away clothing and enter the smoke-filled den of the WWII club.

LOL Scary-o-meter... that is funny, I like it. The Twilight Zone used to scare the heck out of me when I was a little butch. So I used to go to my room, put on a tie, my dads aftershave, and go watch it with Alice, the pretty lady who lived next door ;) ... Ok ok she used to babysit for me too.... but in my little butch mind...it wasn't like that at all!! lol
I dont think I can write the C word either.... :|
Divas? ... I think D1 will be "staffing" the table.. ya, there we go.

sipping hot milk and trying hard to not be so so sooo cranky about it, because it will only make it harder to fall asleep.....:|
it's karma. i took a sick day yesterday, so someone else took one tonight. Ok, maybe it's not karma, bc my sick day was arranged a week ago and my shift covered, so noone got an unpleasant surprise like i did tonight. :'(
must go zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz now.
dear 1s1, please tell our host I might be a party pooper, and will rsvp tomorrow.
(you should still go! one musn't miss a dinner at glinda's!)
miss r--i trust you will tell us all baout the hot body contest later. that's a request. ;)
Not sure what the foxymsmoxie and I are up to tomorrow. May have dinner plans if our host has recovered from her illness. And the hard working girl doesnt get out until 8 anyway.
We shall see....

That was a fun 'tini night. :)
Miss Robin
(c) (c) Good morning, and Happy TGIF!
I just stumbled across this thread, and I have to say, it's made for some really amusing reading....LMAO!
I highly suggest the "open back truck" idea, you never know what kind of trouble you can get into afterwards...LOL...Or maybe that's just me (6)
A great day and happy, safe weekend to all!

Hi all.
I've been severely out of the loop due to, well, nothing very exciting--work and such.
msmox, I'm sorry to hear about your friend. And I hope the yoga is a good thing.
S1, thanks for asking me-the job is going well. Very busy and demanding. Any local folks should feel free to drop by Lia Toyota on King St and visit me.
The floor was just vinyl tiles (but nice ones) but unfortunately the adhesive wouldn't take bc the subflooring was sketchy so I had to use the dreaded tile glue, which is still all over my feet ;) Professional tile-man, I am not. But it looks ok.
Ok, off to work but hi to my Nohoite friends and I hope to see lots of you tonight at Divas.

Glad to hear things are going well. I will have to stop in and say hello. :D
I think I am doing the stick on type tiles in my bathoom. I had no idea, until I saw them the other day that they have improved so much over what they used to look like. They are a lot harder and one is also hard pressed to know they are not the real deal.

Much Ado About Shoes.....I heard an interesting tale about a pair, no two, of red shoes. Shoes? thought I (being a butch with an admitted shoe fetish) what kind, what color, from where.... As the fox conveyed the tale I thought, surely there must be a fitting quotation for such an occasion. Having been remiss of late, I offer this for your entertainment:
All this I see; and I see that the fashion wears out more apparel than the man. But art not thou thyself giddy with the fashion too, that thou hast shifted out of thy tale into telling me of the fashion?
CSI
Hello and welcome. Glad we could amuse you.

This is depressing but I have no one to have a Passover seder with! The Jews have skipped town. It's just me and Theo and Mister Bone. That's what I get for fetishizing Catholics. I'll still be eating my box of matzo on Easter.
Hi Damned Queen and Chris/CSI Femme. You both have to come up and over to Noho for some local festivities! Will you both be around for Pride on May 5th? We're going to have a femme float courtesy of Mister Bone who sells cars at Lia Toyota

Kimberly Akimbo July 19-28
By David Lindsay-Abaire
Directed by Ed Golden Set in the wilds of suburban New Jersey, KIMBERLY AKIMBO is a hilarious and unique comedy, cut from the same cloth as the Academy Award winning film "Little Miss Sunshine". Sixteen year-old Kimberly has progeria, a rare condition causing her body to age more rapidly than it should. When Kimberly and her family flee Secaucus under dubious circumstances, she is forced to reevaluate her short life while contending with a hypochondriac mother, a rarely sober father, a scam-artist aunt, and the possibility of first love. The New York Times called this off-Broadway hit "The comedy of the Year. A haunting and hilarious new play. KIMBERLY AKIMBO is at once a shrewd satire, a black comedy, and a heartbreaking study of how time wounds everyone." The Los Angeles Times dubbed the play "A breezy, foulmouthed, fleet-footed, warmhearted comedy. There have been many dark comedies about dysfunctional families, but this is one of the funniest."

Happy Pesach! I am back from Jewish Camp to celebrate a little Easter. I wish I had known that my lovely Jewish friends in NOHO were in need of some company this Passover. I could have steered you to 22 Dewey CT. I heard there was a seder on Thursday. However, as all good Jews know, the Chag begins tonight as well. You could play a little catch up, perhaps. I could possibly send a Rabbi your way, if you would like him to sit with you.
Unfortunately, I will be back at camp cooking for the next few days. I must say, camp has been very difficult. The "chef" is incompetent and thinks that the elder Jews should eat slop. So, I am trying my best to pick up after him and make their meals beautiful and delicious. "Good Chef, Good Chef." We will see what is to become of my stay. It all depends on how political the place really is. And how much they really want to move forward. So, my friends... say a little prayer and whatever will be will be.
GB& Biker: Sorry about missing your gig lastnight. With the craziness that is my life right now, I came down with a fever and congestion. I ended up sleeping through the night. So, sorry. But I was definitely thinking about you. I am sure that it went well.
Call me..

Hope all is calm in the House of Usher.

Lady C--Oooh...you've given me even more incentive to suck it up and put that Y membership on my credit card! I've been waffling about it for a long time. I REALLY love to swim and want to start again. If I join, will you be my pool buddy? (i) (h)
Miss Robin--I'd love to join you for the Allison reading! We'll chat in the next few days, okay?
Femme Pride update:
We have a truck (thanks, STB!), we have a tentative name (Paradise City Femmes--yay for GnR references), and Pussy Bojangles and I are working on a date for sign/banner making. PM me if you want more info. on the craft day or on the march in general.
Hope everyone is enjoying the sun. NohoFemme tells me snow is on the way, so soak up the sun while you can!

I'd like to go if I am feeling well enough to attend. Let me see how today goes. I do like her work a lot.
I'll definitely join you! I think she's terrific. I wonder what it's about? Is she introducing other authors? Reading? I don't care.
I would love to join some of your dining gals. Do you have a plan?
Thanks for the congrats about Theo!

Dorothy Allison isn't until next week, so hopefully you'll be feeling better by then. :) I also discovered that she is doing two nights of reading--
Dorothy Allison, winner of the 2007 Robert Penn Warren Award for fiction and author of several prizewinning books, including Bastard Out of Carolina (1992), Cavedweller (1998), and Trash (2002), will give a talk Wednesday, April 18, at 7:30 pm in Gamble Auditorium titled "Writers and Stories: Between the Imagination and the Page Is the World."
The following evening, April 19, at 7:30 pm, Allison will give a lecture at John M. Greene Hall, Smith College, titled "Giving Voice to the Unspeakable." Preceding the lecture will be a brief performance by the outreach arm of Voices from Inside, a program that brings the words of women who have been incarcerated into the larger community.
A talkback and book signing will follow both the Mount Holyoke and Smith events.
I think I'm going to try to get to both!

Hey guys and Ladies...
I am back for the day from "The Spa". As Bone perfers it. Just a note to say "hello". It's exciting to hear about all of the Pride Planning Departments or (PPD) ideas for the main event in May.
I don't think I will make it back for the event, but I will be here in spirit. I made it through Pesach and decision making time is at hand. I will know by the weekend if I am staying at the Spa for long term or not.
Despite the tumultious week, I had a great time. I met some amazing people and enjoy the community and the scenery. The Spa is about 30 miles south of the Lee Outlets. So, if anyone is heading out that way... what's another 30 miles of Berkshire scenery?
Hope get in touch with you all very soon.

Is anyone going to Stephen Petronio dance co at UMass tonight? Rob just surprised me with tickets. They're very good and very queer if anyone is dying to do something different on a Thurs night.
Hi NYC femme BBW, I love when you drop in too. You've got to get Dad to bring you up here. ;) Maybe for Pride (insert fingers crossed smilie).
Holliday -- I will definitely go to the Ap 19th 7:30 Dorothy Allison lecture at Smith!
Anyone seeing the Dalai Lama at Smith on May 9th? Our town will be a different place that day. They're closing most of Smith for security reasons.

I am in workoholic mode until after April 25th so I can't come out to play until after that.
Speaking of which, if anybody is interested in attending an environmentally themed dance event preformed by Amherst Ballet and featuring yours truly, it is happenig on Wednesday April 25th at AIC (American International College) in Springfield. (no, I will not be dancing... I am the environmental consultant and will be doing a presentation between the dance pieces.
There will be two very different dance performances, one based on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and another on the Tropical Rainforest. I think they do an excellent job, very entertaining and .... it's completely free!

snipped from the website:
ABOUT THE VISIT
Smith College, Hampshire College and the Tibetan Association of Western Massachusetts will welcome the 14th Dalai Lama to the Pioneer Valley on Wednesday, May 9, 2007. This momentous visit by the leader of the Tibetan people and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize recognizes the colleges’ thriving exchange program with exiled Tibetan scholars in India. Years ago, Hampshire began the Five College Tibetan Studies in India Program, and since then the Dalai Lama has followed its growth as Smith collaborated with Hampshire to sustain the annual academic exchange.
Smith President Carol T. Christ and Hampshire President Ralph J. Hexter will host the daylong visit, during which His Holiness the Dalai Lama is expected to deliver a talk to thousands of students, faculty, staff and invited guests from the two colleges and the Tibetan community. That talk will take place at Smith’s Indoor Track and Tennis facility (ITT) from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Although the audience will be restricted to members of the two college communities, the event will be broadcast live on local television and accessible to anyone in the Pioneer Valley.
During the visit, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will also address an audience of invited members of the area’s strong Tibetan community. That forum will not be broadcast.
The schedule of the Dalai Lama’s talks will be announced closer to the visit. Check back here for that information or e-mail eventinfo@email.smith.edu.

Good afternoon, Northamptonites! Isn't it a lovely day?! I'm off to scour the secondhand stores in search of the perfect Slut Night attire for the dance in NYC at the end of the month. (Holliday, you're going, yay!!)
Tonight is Dorothy Allison at Smith. Rob and I, and several of you, are going. If we don't see one another in front or inside -- let's meet afterward in front and go for drinks. Maybe we can go to Mama Iguana's for margaritas and chips and guacamole -- though it's been packed whenever I've gone.
Miss Robin

I was feeling so overwhelmed after her lecture, I could barely speak let alone socialize in a crowded restaurant, but sorry not to have met the butch/femme posse
Wow, how many places can you mix laughter, stories of horrific violence, wild applause and sympathetic (and empathetic) murmurs all in one room
It was intense, nu?

@ NYC Femme BBW ~ we (collectively) wish you could have been there too :)
@ Jester ~ yes it was very intense, listening to her made me want to re-read some of her books (it has been at least a decade) and it also made me examine somethings personally - specifically what my unspoken truths are -- and -- also how i may have (unintentionally & insiduously) contributed to the silencing of those I love due to my own fear of facing the horrific truth(s).
Also - she spoke at length about our (as humans) fascination with violence.
We can revile the stories of our friends/our family/our neighbors/our colleagues - and yet we thrive on violence in films, and books, and television, and computer games....we become so desensitized to violence that it becomes 'everyday' or passe...
I left with much to think about!
Which was wonderful.
I also found it fascinating that she's been clipping articles since the 70's - creating an archive of violence against women - particularly the history of anonymous women....
I feel privledged for having had the opportunity to listen to her for 2hours.
And my Mz. Allison is charming and witty - to boot! :D

I'll make some (t)s and see what their policy is regarding lecture series.
They may reproduce it for a fee.
Or they could have a strictly enforced intellectual property-type policy that forbids that.
