Ardent and all--GO to CULTURE SHOCK! Thonsey and Celia are FANTASTIC--I am sure the rest of the lineup is, too-- if i wasn't in for the night, i'd be there even though i hate divas--culture shock is about the only thing that might get me there! (and donnie faux)

ps to Rue--bad breakups rot, and so many of us have had them! i like to think that even in this small fishbowl of a shire, we all grant one another a bit of the benefit of the doubt and judge what we see and share with someone, not just base an impression on what we hear. unless of course we hear that they are true to their real names, like hottie mchotterson--then we accept all rumours at face value.

(oh dear. how high is my fever?)

I wasn't overly interested in seeing the Departed even though i have heard it got really good reviews. I want to see Half Nelson and believe I may be going to see it Sat. early afternoon. I have to beg my friends to see a movie with me at the pleasant st. I called my friend a heterosexual and a Jehovah's Witness and asked about going to a movie, She was very excited until I mentioned The Pleasant St, She doesn't want to go a dorky movie, I felt bad and offered to go to the violent movie where there is alot of killing. She was excited until I called back with the name of the movie and she had already seen it. So we are going to see the Half Nelson. I usually go to the movies alone.I started doing so at 15 when the movie theater in my home town showed Lianna. It is easier to go alone than to listen to horror in their voices when I mention sub-titles or the groan as the coming attractions start up and I lean over and say . " I am not sure but I think the movie might be subtitled,"(6)

Ardent, did you go to Culture Shock? We didn't go because I didn't know if I'd have anyone to dance with, Rob being a voyeur.

Yesterday I was in Herrell's giving my daughter cards about the b/f weekend to distribute (she said -- no way, that was too dorky) and her co-worker, an adorable 21-year-old butch named Sam said, I think I've danced with your mother at Divas. Yikes!

The Departed was very entertaining. I agree with LadyC -- good script and portrayals. I thought Scorcese was pulling a Tarantino but I don't want to say more for those who haven't seen it. Of the big names I thought Alec Baldwin was the best. Leonardo DiCaprio...blech. He didn't age well (what is he, 25?). I liked him best in Gilbert Grape.

S1, I should have asked you to join us. Why wouldn't you be into that film being an Irish gang member and all. ;)

What other movies do you all want to see? Anyone up for Marie Antoinette? I'd see the John Lennon movie at the Academy. Nancy, that was a funny story about your friend. You couldn't drag me to Half Nelson. Romanticized drug addiction doesn't do it for me.

My friend and I work in addictions and she didn't seem that keen about the drug theme either. I offered up Edi Amin and even with Forrest Whitaker in the mix it was a no go

My concern is the interacial theme, sometimes white educated people love movies with racial themes and people from the racial/ethnic minority are not that impressed. My friend is black middle class, raised lower middle class, is the director a woman's shelter in Springfield. So I tried to find a review from a website that might be geared toward black people. I do not know if I sound nuts, I am thinking this is a lot of work in my head to go to a movie- perhaps I am better off going it alone. My friend will totally tell me if she hates the movie and will really enjoy giving me a hard time. She wants to go to Whole Foods afterwards and because she is directionally challenged she needs a guide. I think my offer to bring her to Whole Foods has made the idea of the movie more palatable.

My car is not that reliable, but if it were, I think I would try to go to the WaterFire thingy in Providence RI that Rue The Day told me about.

Well, miss ronbin and I really enjoyed The Departed. It was funny and gritty, great if predictable characters and dialogue, lots of action.

The bad side? We were to otired after it got out to change clothes and make it to Culture Shock. I didn't read this thread yesterday but if I had, and had known Thonsey was going to spin, I'd have been there. How was it?

We've been staying home a lot lately and were talking last night about how we miss going out dancing....What about this coming weekend? I won't be out tonight bc I have my son. But should we have a B-F rendezvous at the WW2 on Friday?

GB, The U.S. vs. John Lennon just opened at the Academy. It's about his antiwar activism. Why don't you throw out a date when you can go and maybe a few of us can go together and then have a drink or coffee afterward and commiserate about how little passion there is in activism in the US today.

Once I decided to go out, I had every intention of going to Culture Shock. However, two of my dear and very persuasive soft butch friends (who will remain anonymous ;) ) suggested we go to the Deuce for a (b). Once there, another butch--whom I will call the Stone Scholar--gave the Diva's gig a tough critical review and bribed me with another (b) to stay. Of course, it wasn't hard to convince me because the DJ just happened to be playing all my favorite dance songs(8) , several femme dancing buddies arrived and were wildly gesticulating signals to stay or else, and all that combined with the sweet faces of friends, general good cheer and handsome butches playing pool was too much to resist. By the time I left, I was even sporting my very own little black WWII Club Staff t-shirt. An afterhours breakfast party celebrating one beloved bartender's birthday (^) topped off a great night. Strong (c) this morning should get me through a stack of paperwork that will likely prevent me from venturing out tonight:( .

Regarding Stone_to_Bone's proposition for next Friday: Sounds great... And NohoFemme will be back with wild tales and hopefully some documentation in the form of photos and video! Look forward to dancing with Miss Robin and Noho--it's been too long! Back to work...

Miss Robin, I saw healf nelson and there is absolutely no romanticized addiction, it was a very real story, and no traditional feel good hollywood ending.

Oops, I made a mistake. Wed night at 7pm is the Susan Stryker talk. Can we go to the movies on Thurs night?? Or Tues?? Judith Butler is on Tues, but at 4pm.

:|

To make things less confusing, here is the info:

Tues Oct 24, 4pm:

Judith Butler on "post-Zionism" at Robert Crown Center, Hampshire College

Wed Oct 25, 7pm

Susan Stryker, "Transgender Feminism: Queering the Woman Question" at 103 McConnell Hall, Smith College

Tues Oct 24 or Thurs Oct 25, 8pm

The US vs. John Lennon at The Academy of Music

Am I making this impossible or CK, GB, LadyC -- can you change the day for the film? Does this ease up anyone else's schedule?

Anyone going to the lectures? LadyC, I know you're going to Judith Butler so we'll swoon together and maybe throw panties at her on stage (can you imagine?)

LK,

Yeah. I know Melissa's at Bucci's. I used to babysit her kid for a while when she first started working there. I go there to have her cut my hair, but if I dod not work 3-11 pm I would have her do it at home. She is under the clock there and it is very rushed.

I finally made to to See Half Nelson, I liked it, I agree I never find the mess that sounds peoples drug abuse a glorification. But when I talk to the addicts I work with they have a different opinion and there rational I can not quite remember at the moment or am able to understand it in the moment anyways. Like Trainspotting, I saw in Montreal, when my ex and I were visiting women from Festival(MWMF). I was horrified and could not imagine how that movie could in anyway promote heroine use, but again heroin addicts love the movie and do feel it glorifies using. Go figure.

As for movie night I usually work Mon., Wed., & Thurs. 3-11 and then have to go to work Fri. nite at 11 pm. The fun never ends.

Yes I am planning to go to the lecture because tuesday sort of works for me.

Thursday I can do :) Tuesday I can not do.

GB

LadyC, I know you're going to Judith Butler so we'll swoon together and maybe throw panties at her on stage (can you imagine?)

hey miss robin. count me in for the movie. As for the deuce and burning close, sounds like a reason to have an after hours party at 13 wright ave. Dancing, and fire are a great combination. Not to mention, Sarah's delicious eggs!

mmmm.... i love sarah's eggs... i love her bacon too! how the f@ck have you been? I think i've seen you once downtown in the last 4 months or so... give sarah & cole a smootch for me. will patrick be there? i haven't seen him in a long time.

Hi CK! Hi Woobie, knitting superhero. Ardent, you make me miss the Deuce, despite having to burn my clothing afterward. I also love your crafty use of smilies. :s

Good idea, CK, about dragging Nohofemme to the Deuce next Friday. I'll be there (with my favorite superhero, Stone_to_Bone).

How about Wednesday? GB, you're free. I'm free. MsMoxie? Anyone want to see the John Lennon movie? Maybe we can go to a 7pm show (I have to check times) and meet up with anyone who can't make it for drinks at 9pm.

MsMoxie, where did your coworker go on a 3-week honeymoon?!

Bri, I hope you and Bruno are having a nice weekend. Rob's been filling my inbox which accounts for his swelling to it's maximum capacity. (:$)

I was thinking of a name and came up w/ "triple W or WWW" as in woobie's worsted wool... but i'm not sure about that... maybe captain aloof would be good? any ideas girl wonder?

This Thursday, GB, LadyC, Rob and I are going to see The US vs. John Lennon at 8pm at The Academy. Who's in?

Welcome back, Nohofemme!! Call or write with details. Please.

Woobie, I think Woobie is a perfect superhero name.

Yes to Sarah's eggs. This Friday, Beeee is coming to town to go with us to the Deuce, but her handsome Dapper1 won't be joining us.

Nancy, look forward to meeting you at the Judith Butler lecture.

Today I got a flat tire and pulled into the Mobile Station in Florence. The guy was so nice and looked over all my tires and plugged up three holes from small nails and only charged me (well, charged Rob who showed up to rescue Theo who had to be at play practice in moments) $10. I recommend that station for femmes with flats.

Hey Woob, you should start a knitting business and call it 'Woobs'. I think that everyone would come just to watch you knit, I could make food, Sarah could sing, the ladies could dance... It would be a combination of divas, bar 19, "the knitting place" on service way all in one!

I had a meltdown in the Marshall's parking lot in Hadley around 3pm: Rob and I were looking for winter gear for my kids and me, and we were still shopping, and we had to go back to Northampton to walk the dogs, and I didn't know what to wear to the lecture because yesterday was so freakin cold -- and then I just said fuck it, I'm not going to understand a word she says anyway and I heard negative things about her take on Zionism, so we didn't go. I'm sort of sorry to have missed it but we did have a nice dinner and rented the Ballet Russe documentary.

I'm sorry you won't be able to make the movie tomorrow night!

Hey all--

Let's add a skill swap to the weekend! Knitting tips, dance moves, and recipe exchanges!

Speaking of recipes--I just made a batch of mac and cheese (with saint andre! MMmmm-mmmm!) and a ratatoiulle--comfort food for fall. BFCooks--any ideas of what to do with the extra "broth" from the ratatoille--soup, of course, is easy--but what else to add? barley? rice? lentils?

Lady Merrick--hope you join the weekend activities in Nov!

MissR--sorry to hear about your Marshall's Meltdown. Hope you've recovered.
I saw The Departed last eve, quite good. S1 and I agree on the corniness of the last scene, but I do think it rates hokey points--and I'm all about the hoke and the dork.
No more movies (or much else) for me the rest of the week--I'm working eves and going away this weekend. (YAY YAY YAY) And more YAY--no more crazy hours!!! My schedule is normal again. That 3 week honeymoon was an eensey exaggeration on my part--my coworker was off for 2.5 weeks, but not all of it was spent honeymooning--they reserved a few days on either side for wedding prep and then winding down into real life again--and they were in Mexico. But hell, that 2.5 weeks felt like MONTHS for those of us who worked both day and night shifts to cover!

MsCK--sorry to say I can't join the eggs and salsa gathering. Sounds divine! Hi to your roomie the eggmaker!

LadyCSparkle: (k) (k) Hope you survived your weekend of work and that your week goes well.

OMG you sound like Bruno! You forgot - no snow angels and/or rolling around in it like its catnip yet!

:D Yup. Love the snow! Don't mind the shoveling, dont't mind the cleaning off the car, love all the cancellations.... the only thing I am not crazy about is the ice.. As for being cold, I just put on more clothes (when it is below zero I can only imagine how many layers msmoxie is wraped in lol).

I don't think I have ever uttered the phrase "omg I can't wait until winter is over!" ... why, I can barely type it much less say it! lol. I would be far more likely to stay here in the winter and visit the Arctic National Refuge in the summer just to beat the heat!:|

I am actually the official "whine balancer" in these parts. I never moan about the winter, but as soon as I feel the slighest bit of perspiration on me from just standing around in the weather, I have little butch heat whimp tantrums. What makes it worse, is that at the same time, I refuse to turn on the AC because then I would feel like an enemy of the environment (bad thing in my line of work)

So, take heart all you chilly bones, it will be over before you know it. (c) here, warm up all.

Let me register my distaste for all things sub-zero. :| Can we vote on whether or not to keep winter? :o

However, having spent 2 score and some years in the north-east of the US....I've learned to deal with it. Almost tolerate it. For a couple of months, anyway. Jan & Feb would be a suitable length of time, if you ask me.

(c'mon lottery win!! lady c needs a little house on the mediterranean coast) ...

I'd forgotten all about SNOW DAYS!!! when I was abroad! Working in Education has *some* perks!

And I like sledding and skiing - and excuses for hot toddies and spicy hot cocoa!

And I love down comforters and casmere lined gloves and merino wool jumpers and lined wool trousers and soft angora socks and crackling fires..........

BUT I HATE..........
winter weather footware!!! (almost as much as i hate bowling shoes)
and scraping ice from my car in the a.m.
and shovelling sidewalks
and and and............cold toes
and......getting out of bed first thing on a dark and freezing cold morning........
and and....and and.......

Indeed! Heat yuck phooey! I lived in Guam for almost 5 years. I have had enough palm trees, sand, typhoons, sunburns, tropical pests and the icky sticky sweaty nasty heat!

I say.... Let not these be the winters of our collective discontent. Lets just do fun winter things and find cozy comfy ways to stay warm!

Yes, as an official ex-Femmetastic, I can unfortunately assure you that we are no more. I agree, it is sad. Even if I left the troupe before the troupe broke up. But...three of us are still very interested in doing more performing, so maybe we can have a mini-reunion for the quasi-knitting shop?! Both Violet Valentino and I are knitters, after all. :)

I hope to make it out to WWII tomorrow night. Will I be seeing anyone familiar? I just need to go home and dig through my clothes for something burnable (not to be confused with highly flammable).

<--- big geek, old woman trapped in the body of a young hottie
I am a RECLUSE
you will never meet me, cause I'll be hiding in my little house, with my big dogs.
Is anything Halloweenie happening on actual Hallowe'en?
I'll be wearing my costume to work.....
but I'm still dying to find a costume party!

Is it spring yet?

GGRrrrrrrrr.....I hate winter in New England. Hate. It.

I start complainnig now-ish and don't stop til I'm sweating and burning and on my way to Ptown. Winter is like some ex-catholic penance thing. Ech, I just hate it. Fires are nice, I like skiing but those are the things we do for tiny bits of time in between freezing and freezing and wasting money on heat and freezing some more and then slipping on ice.

Can you tell I never met my coffee quota for the day?

on a brighter note, if anyone would like to join my sweet miss robin and myself and GB and maybe CK, we're headed to the movies at 8 tonight...if folks want to come, just show up at the Academy of Music (John Lennon vs the US) and I promise that I won't complain about winter all night.

sounds like a great place!!!
can we have the femmetastic fatales come in for a burlesque show? I might put down my knitting for that! (suicide grrls SUCK!) --- I mean--- (clearing throat)--- they're great, just very THIN and I prefer the very body positive FemmeTastics. DId anyone else see them last year at the Elevens? Me & Daddy went out the next day and bought sooooo much lingerie......

:P

Woobie ---- you teach? what sorts o' things do you teach, natch?

Ooooo! I can challenge you to a speed knitting contest!
you, me, your choice of stitch, same yarn, same needles, same # of stitches, mistakes must be pulled out & fixed,
now we need an impartial judge!
what do you say? Are you up for it?

no,no,no... no teaching here... just a newbie... I think the whole Superhero when it comes to knitting thing is that i'm butch enough to get away with it... It makes me even more attractive for some reason... I love it when the long island ladies are in town and tell me that it's so sweet and they want to take me home w/ them when the see me knitting downtown - if you all you butches would just realize how freakin' cool knitting is! but that's fine - that just means i have more to choose from

Miss R & STB - no movies but thanks for the offer -see you guys 2morrow night i hope?
I'll sing you guys a song! and oh yeah......mmmm.... sarah's eggs.....

NohoFemme -? you work near my house surrounded by yarn? i may have to pop in for some yarn suggestions - i've been afraid to go in there - to much stimulus - i'd never be able to make a decision - it's my new home depot of sorts and a lot less labor intensive

I will be traveling to Saipan in February. Would love to talk with you about your experience in the Marianas.

Are you coming over on Friday for Sarah's eggs?

Hey CK

Saipan? Wow what is bringing you out that way? I was very young when I lived on Guam but I am always up for conversation. I will however not be around this weekend. I am stealing my girl away for a brief but necessary little get-away. Hope you all have a great time. :D

I will be going out to WWII club Friday night. I work overnight but a co-worker will cover for me until I show up. Then I will have to stay later in the morning because he comes back to work aftefr an eight hour turn around. He is a good kid- spends most of his time in labs at umass dissecting things and loves to tell us the gory details.

everytime I think about the lesbian dance nights at Divas...(dis?)affectionately known as a variety of teasing nicknames...perhaps we need to start a sub-thread: are northampton butches and femmes ageist and anti-frump??

(laughing and in jest) where did all the PC go? gone to snark and derision, where did all the PC go, it was so earnest? where did all the PC go? off to protest porn and scum? where did all the PC go? to bump and grind in burlap clothes? where did all the PC go, it was so earnest...

oh no. i think i just lost my mind. occasionally scathing irreverent sense of humor? check. worry of offending? check. balance? priceless.

OMG I can see it now. Meetings will spring up all over the happy valley.

"Hello my name is Sophisticated1 and I am an anti frump butch...."

*Hi Sophisticated1 welcome.*

"Hi thanks..eeeyeah....Well, my problem is that, I.. I kinda like to keep up with the times... and .. and do fun and exciting things... and .... well, umm...while I do remember the 80's and all the vests and mullets and womon/wimmins music and goddess jewlery and the slightly anti social/backwards/angry edge... I.. well... I never liked it then and I... I still haven't come to embrace it....

*nods from the stylish crowd*

"And... well.. I .. I .... I kinda like um... to dress well, I .. I mean style matters to me and .. and (tearing up) I can't wear khakis, bad shoes and a multi colored vest and ... and.. I'm sorry but I just cant manage to slouch that much either .. or... or dance, you know,...like.. picking up my feet in that off the beat marching way,.. like the floor is too hot to stand on
...*bursting into tears*

*its ok S1 we understand...you are among friends.*

"Plus... I ... (shaking my head) I feel terrible about this but I ... I like being able to go out, you know to a club and actually be to able look around the room and .. and ...actually want to stay ... not be moved to run screaming from the room in a horrified way because the entire place is filling up and spilling over with folks with terrible cases of the schlumpy, dowdy, frumpy syndrome (sobbing)...

*Its ok S1 hang in there and work the program.(handing me a little card of the best place to shop..and those to avoid) It really works....*

(ya.. I know I am going straight to hell!)

As for the "old lesbian dance" :| :s :'( ugh... just the thought of it. I knew it wasn't going to be my cup of tea when it was described as "music you can actually sing along with (apparently if you don't know the lyrics you can't dance to the music) that is not too loud, (apparently so that you can hear yourself singing along while "dancing" or perhaps just stand and have a conversation on the dance floor) and everybody isn't 20! (mm ya, well that is indeed true 20 hasn't generally been seen in that crowd for a very long time)

I must admit, our little group does zeuzsh things up a bit by raising the standands of both style and dance, but still, I feel like I am at a lesbian pot luck with someone randomly popping in their favorite cassette thinking "we are family" is the best song in the world because we can all chant "I got all my sisters with me" Oy Vey!

lol ok .. I'm done being a little snotty (albeit lively anti frump and stylsih) butch. I just had to get that out.... ahhh I do feel better.....

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend whatever your plans are. Play outside, enjoy the fall, keep eachother warm....Fight the good style fight if you go to Divas and enjoy. For those of us that happen to be over 40... show em that it can be done in a fabulously fashionable and dynamic way!:D (h) Perhaps someday the dance will be called the "Hot Fridays" or something.... I'd go then ;)

Happy weekend!

Yes I hear you. It is strange how highly offended folks get in an online forum .... They forget the old sticks and stones can bring a world of hurt but words on a screen written by people you don't know and are not in your life and just WORDS, and not even in your face words... cyber words no less. :s

But I would hate to think that I was actually one of the OL's at the OLD or seen as one of the crowd! I knew it. I miss all the fun. My intentions were to go out, but I was tired and had to work the awake overnight so I went home to sleep before work. My co-worker who was going to stay and work for me laughed at my failed attempt at social interaction. I guess I did not get much sleep the night before as I had something troubling on my mind. Now I am trying to stay awake during the day because I have to work again tomorrow at 7 am. If I sleep all day I will not sleep tonight and the repercussions last well into Monday. You guys sound like a lot of fun. Sorry I missed you.

Strong coffee, and the morning cigarette seem to be helping me remember seeing some scary people at my house. I think I saw Gene Simmons and Rob Zombie in my kitchen. Okay, STB here is your giant run on sentance:
Woobie for some reason thought Ardents name was Ativan(no actual ativan was involved in the making of this post), Ardent & I were laying on S's bed talking, Ms CK walked in, Woobie came in and flopped in between us, then mad piles of butches started laying on top...no pain involved, and everyone was very polite(strange how that happened), AND MsCk makes this fabu drink(d) with vodka and blueberries in her namesake that goes down way too easy:D ...and that's all folks!!!! :D
And yes, there was a giant nun at the bar that probably thought you were the priest that I thought you were.

All right wussies... i"m grabbing a bite in town, then i'm going out for a bit of the hair of the dog @ Divas @ 10pm if anyone has the breasts to do it - not getting drunk by the way - just hoping that drinking what i did yesterday will help the headache that won't go away..

Dear Faint of Heart: wasn't that you dancing with us last night at Diva's? Or was that your evil twin?

While I wasn't planning on going out, somehow I ended up at Diva's dressed in costume as my alter-ego "Submissive Stone Femme" in a too-tight leopard-skin dress (over fullbody fishnet stockings) with Mistress NohoFemme in black latex, brandishing a crop and a leash attached to her slave (MsCK) who was wearing--well, we'll let the photos speak for themselves... Then, all of a sudden, the three of us were in the costume contest and onstage. While a femme in a bubble bath attended by her giant rubber duckie won the prize, there could be a repeat performance for the upcoming B-F cabaret... :s I dunno...

Anyhow, I do remember seeing "Faint of Heart" on the dancefloor (sandwiched between femmes) and believe there are photos to prove it!

OMG this sounds so fun!! Last night I was supposed to go to a solo performance about a holocaust victim at the Helen Hills Hills but I was given the wrong time and didn't go. How cheery that would have been anyway. And on top of that we missed the goings on at MsCK and S's house because we left at whatever dawn-breaking hour it was. Dang!

I want to see the photos. Are you posting them Ardent? (Ativan -- lol)

Hey Woobie, my favorite thing at the Deuce was your demonstration of house-cleaning to Michael Jackson's Beat It. ha ha ha!

Everyone, can we do a pizza and movie night soon? My house is kindof small but maybe everyone can squish in. It can be a bring-your-own-sofa party.

Sounds Like you had fun lastnight Ativan - but sadly it was not me. I do have a twin though - who just happens to be very bad. Some would even say "evil - (6) ".
In case you guys ever need to know whether or not it is me just look at the chest... if you see a tattoo there = not me. Biggest indicator - can't miss it

OMG! I can't believe I missed out on all that fun on Friday night!! Why in the world did I leave at one?? Oh, right...my eyes were watering and I couldn't breathe and I had to work in the morning. :( I seriously missed out, though. My way of getting piles of butches on me (or anyone) has always been to play Swilldines. Drunkenly searching for people in a dark house can be so much fun!!!! ;)

I am all about everyone getting together again soon. I actually liked my first WWII experience. My house is good for getting together--in Easthampton, though.

Oh, and to those who went to Diva's Saturday night, I sooo was going. I made my "Sugar High Glitter City" costume and everything. (it's a bra and mini-skirt covered in candy) But, alas, I fell asleep watching the X-files with gummi-worms falling out of my mouth. What is everyone doing for Halloween tomorrow? Can I show up somewhere and get licked (I WILL be wearing candy, after all)?

Last thought, I swear: I'm FINALLY getting wireless installed at home this Wednesday so I will be a regular on here again...or, for the first time.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

I forget who said they live in easthampton but that is also where i live and i would love to get togther for a pizza night. I didnt make divas this weekend as i was at Jades in haverhill. I sat thru the driving rain at a BC football game....Jade thought i was crazy. i went with some of the teachers i work with. I came home soaked and took a 30 min hot shower and then went out to Friends Landing in Haverhill, it was costume night there, not as exciting as divas i see. I am very much looking forward to meeting more people in the area.

I am going to try to make it to some events. The last time I was in Northampton, I was still in college, the only bar in town was the Northstar, you had to climb through a hole in cieling to request a song from the DJ. A popular saturday was spending the day at the Quabbin Resivoir, the evening at the Haymarket?, later to the baths, a night of dancing at the Northstar and breakfast at a tiny after hours diner. It wasn't so long ago, but still, it will be a lot of fun to be back, especially during the Fall.

Thanks for organizing this, I'm looking forward to it.

Ya, I wouldn't advise going to the Northstar when you get here.. it is long gone. The Quabbin is still about and so are the tubs. Perhaps "Jakes" was your after hours diner and that is still alive and kicking.

Teapot: 20 (can't remember if I reserved 20 or 25 here:s )
Paradiso: 17 (still room for 9)
Brunch: 15 (still room for more!)

I was also told last night to inform those of you with kids that at the Nature Walk, people do let their dogs run free off the leash. So if you have children, please bring them, just know that there are lots of animals there to bump into and nuzzle (sounds great to me!).

Also, the Bowling event is KID FRIENDLY!!! Please bring your children! This is a weekend for the whole family not just the grown ups!
If you are still in need of child care, please get in touch with me or Miss Robin so we can help out with that! :)

See you all soon!!!:D (l)

If you come to my house tonight you'll be licked by hundreds of sticky children. I bought 6 bags of candy but I have a feeling because of the nice weather, that'll be gone in by 7pm. My street is a really popular one for trick or treaters. But anyone and everyone is welcome to come over!

I saw Lez Zeppelin at Michigan this year. Even I have worked there 12 years now( a short timer really) I am not that interested in music and had no idea who they were. They were OK as far as music , but the audience went wild and they had a very high energy engaging performance. They were by far the favorite and the lead singer had some sort of British accent, pehaps Australian or New Zealand. She had a nice energy and was fairly humble and self-effacing in an endearing sort of way.

Lez Zeppelin ...a cover band of Led Zeppelin nvcap1 ;) I understand they do a decent job. I remember the audition calling for the guitarist, but I won't play MWMF so I save the Jimmy Page solos for my child prodigy guitar student who on the 3rd lesson (note he was a beginner) had me teaching him the solo to "Stairway To Heaven":| :o (8) (y)

Yeah, I do not know how this happened. I guess I am just not that good at finding out about things. All the music I know and like has been suggested to me by people in my life or is on the pop stations. I am perplexed when people have heard of a band not commonly known. I have no poetry to express my experience, perhaps you could suggest so.

I like the irony though that I am a devotee of the MWMF and I am oblivious to music. Usually get a laugh. I am always going for the laugh. But Soph I met you in the mid nineteen eighties maybe once or twice for a few minutes and I have the sense that you did not laugh at my jokes.

I met with GuitarBoi last night to discuss our Cabaret show and things are just going to be wonderful! He is bringing his professional background in the music and entertainment industry and totally taking on this event which promises to be just AMAZING!

On the docket so far are:
(*) GB himself doing one of his own songs
(*) 2 drag kings
(*) 1 burlesque dancer (Miss Pussy Bojangles formerly of the Femmetastic Fatales)
(*) and possibly another 2 acts in the works!
The dining events are filling up fast so PLEASE RSVP if you want to attend any of them. It is still early enough to add to our reservations (for all but Paradiso as we have filled the banquet room).
email to: butchfemme2006@yahoo.com (butchfemme2006@yahoo.com)
and visit the website for updates and the full itinerary: geocities.com/butchfemme2006 (http://geocities.com/butchfemme2006)

Forgive me then nvcap1, but the briefness of the encounters and the span of time from then to now, seems to have me at a loss for placing you in the real world. Perhaps you can assist my recollection. We met when and where?

S1

I think I met you in Northampton with either a friend of mine at the time, Beth Fitzgerald, or the woman I was dating my freshman year of college,Heidi Quesada. It was probably the briefest of encounters, but it is rare that I do not get a laugh- so it usually makes a lasting impression.

Oh thank you sweetie,
It just seems that living like a rock star in Vegas and then coming back and not slowing down is catching up to me...:(
What happened? I thought we could party hard well into our 60's. :s
It seeme that Noho is getting a little too "mature" to be the party girl these days.
(sad thoughts of the Parker Posey character I will never be *sigh*)
But, in bed early and full of Airborne & Zicam! :D
Must be better for next weekend!
Thank you for the kind wishes! (l) (l)

Yeah...I have my work cut out for me this week!!! I want to do a brand new routine.

Also, thank you sooo much to Miss Robin and STB for being such fine hosts last night. Yes, the shells were delicious, even if I could only eat a wee-bit in the corset. ;) Wonderful to meet Miss Robin's daughter and see Woobie in full work regalia as well. You need to come make sure my apartment isn't about to catch fire!

Hee hee, why thank you LCS, you are too kind :D I don't know what it is but sometimes the conversation just seems to call for the Bard, Emerson, Mandela or Angelou and then ... sometimes it needs a little Ricky Riccardo, Fred Flintstone, Bugs bunny or Karen Walker.... ((d) "Martini, honey, and don't waste any space with those olives!")

Jack of all trades master of none I imagine ... though renaissance butch sounds a lot better! ;)

Miss Holliday, you left your sensational black wig hanging in my downstairs bathroom and I opened the door and just about had a heart attack. It looked like someone was standing in my bathroom. lol. It was a pleasure having you and Woobie over. I admire a girl who can lounge around for hours in an anti-breathing corset! You looked gorgeous.

MsMoxie, Sophi1, GB, LadyC -- where are you all?! Love is no excuse. And get that Dapper1 out, will you, Soph1? What's everyone up to this weekend?

Fri night Rob and I are seeing Twelfth Night at the high school and then going to Lez Zepplin at Pearl St. No plans on Sat night.

Shall we make plans for a pizza/movie night at Rob's? Rob what night is best? I would love to see Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill, or any Russ Meyer's flick. They're so campy. Any film suggestions?

LOL I always wanted to use that ransom line when I worked at the library and came in late for work.... anyway...

Hi there Miss Robin. :D I am still about, just crazy busy with work and such. Ok, ok (l) has something to do with it as well, but this is mostly a crunch time for me. I even had to put off seeing my (l), in order to get work done just last night!!:|

Same is true for the Dapper1, she is either working, or driving out to you know where to see you know who. ... Though I have it on good advice that Dapper1 & you know who will be attending most if not all of the Noho BF weekend events.

Can't speak for LCS or GB I haven't seen hide ner hair of em either!

As for this weekend.... humm... I may be able to carve out some time. Anything concrete in the works yet? I actually need to get in some time outdoors. Environmental writers that sit inside in front of a computer all day... well that is just so wrong! So if anyone would be up for a hike (read walk in the woods for those of you who are less than enthralled with "hiking") that would be great. Of course I am never adverse to grabbing a pint, coffee, or a movie either,... I just require some outside time this weekend.

Hey,

Anyone who may not be attending Shakespeare or Zepplin:

I just remembered that Matei Varga (Romanian pianist) will be performing at Sweeney concert Hall at Smith on Friday night @ 8. Works by Enescu, Beethoven and Chopin (my personal favorite!) will be performed. The concert is free. I think I will be going and perhaps having a glass of wine afterwards.

But today I did go crazy at JoAnne Fabrics with the person who is making my costume for the number!! This will be my first custom piece! Now I just have to get the dancing as sassy as the clothes.

Woobie: You are funny (and kind). Next time I see you we'll have to coordinate schedules for you to do my "inspection." And if you are really hard-pressed to see ladies practicing their stuff, I may have need for a trial audience. No more troupe to watch... :(

Miss Robin: I know! I kind of worried you would think someone had hanged a cat in your bathroom. Is there a good time this week/end for me to come pick it up from you? I may use it for next Saturday.

Hi there Miss Robin. :D I am still about, just crazy busy with work and such. ...As for this weekend....
S1

I thought about your hike offer, S1 but it is tooooo cold for my California bones. I tried to like it outside today. I stood in my yard with the dogs and (c) and smiled like a good New England pilgrim at the sunshine and the birds and trees and squirrels -- for about one minute and then went back inside. I hope you enjoyed your concert last night. We got out of Lez Zeppelin kind of late to have a (d).

What exactly are we "watching"?
So we're on for Thusday? Say, 7:30? I'll rent a Russ Meyers film and maybe something else. More on that later. Who's in?

This will be fun. It'll be a prelude to the weekend festivities. It's hard to get me to sit still on a couch and watch a movie so can we watch a movie where we can talk and even dance, like in Rocky Horror Picture Show (only kidding). But something we can make fun of. Something campy. I do love Russ Meyers.

STB, etc: No, I won't be coming Thursday. I work overnight that night and I have all the hard work to do, getting ready to entertain you all. (*) :) (*)

Miss Robin: I know! I kind of worried you would think someone had hanged a cat in your bathroom. Is there a good time this week/end for me to come pick it up from you? I may use it for next Saturday.

Miss Holliday, I'm sorry you won't be joining us on Thurs. I'd like to watch you eat pizza in a corset :s. I have your wig here and I'm around. Give me a call or drop me a line when it's convenient for you to pick it up.

I'm sat on the 14th floor of the gorgeous Westin Waterfront - with a stunning view of Boston....!!! Wahey. *sometimes*just sometimes* my job has some perks! :D

Not sure what my weekend plans are - i'm on another biz trip out east - on Sunday - so I'm primarily hoping to: sleep and lounge in pjs do laundry and clean my floors this weekend!!! Isn't that tres exciting! :$

LadyC, you're so busy! I love the photo your guy posted in the gallery of him looking for you in Boston. GB, that was great. We miss you.

Well all I am sad to say I will not be able to join any of you all at the get together the weekend of the 10th :'(
But be sure to have a great time all of you(y)

I'm sorry to hear that, Frosty. I know you had a good time last year.

Lez Zeppelin was amazing! I was completely mesmerized by the guitar player. She looked like Iggy Pop in a longhair blonde wig.

OH. MY. GOD. A dyke Iggy Pop?! I would have been mesmerized too!

Sonny, who are you? Lez Zeppelin was amazing! I was completely mesmerized by the guitar player. She looked like Iggy Pop in a longhair blonde wig. The drummer was awesome. Woobie what happened to you and Lisa, et al. afterward? Nancy/NV1 it was nice to meet you. You're the quiet type I guess. :)

We all walked over to b19 aka the calvin, but there was a "not so fun" scene:( - so we went to my place for a bit - i was in bed relatively early (3:30am)... it was sooo cold out a few of my friends spent the night instead of wandering off into the night.
I'm home eating chips and dip for dinner in sweatpants (sexy, i know, but try to keep it together girls)... Totally staying in tonight and hanging w/ mr. loverman - I need to be all cozy & warm on the couch infront of some mind numbing t.v.
What are you doing tomorrow Miss R?

I'm home tonight too and Rob's at his place with his son. We were coerced by a friend to eat dinner earlier at the Bluebonnet. So I'm recovering from The Milieu of Tackiness and Canned Food. Thank the good lord jiminy cricket that we're not a Bluebonnet group like the 12-stepians or I couldn't hang out with you all. ;) So now I'm drinking tea and warming my hands by the toasty computer screen, polishing my nails, and hoping I can get through a couple New Yorkers so I'll almost be up to this week.

Tomorrow I have no plans. Rob isn't working either. (Yippee!) Anyone want to get together for a midday coffee? Want to meet at Haymarket at, say, 2pm? Soph1, maybe we can get a little nature/dog walk in too.

It was nice to meet you as well. No. I am not quiet, I usually talk up a blue streak. The loud music is kind of hard to speak over. I really enjoyed the show. Pearl St was a very different venue from the Night Stage at Michigan, much more up close and personal. Having grown up in New Hampshire in the 70s and 80s, as I listened to the band I realized I was a lot more familiar with Led Zeppelin than I had been aware of.

I went to the WWII club where a very young person I am hardly acquainted with kept me company and amused with stories of dating boys. I think she shares some difficulties with Clinton in defining what constitutes sex which made the conversation all the more amusing. A very nice, polite young woman who was concerned that I was on my own, manners are always impressive. I finally released her from babysitting me assuring I was OK on my own. She knows me from hanging with young men who have gone through the substance abuse shelter I work at, I run into many of them on the streets of Northampton. They have usually been placed at Hairston House. A very nice young girl all in all.

Earlier in the evening I was at the Holyoke Deaf Club for Bingo, which the club puts on monthly during the school year for ASL students at HCC. It is opened to others as well. Bingo is a fun time and for those who drink, beer is very cheap I have heard.

LK--hope the banquet went well. Your halloween story is funny. My costume morphed throughout the day...I started as a cosmetics counter lady, (can i interest you in a free makeover today?) piled on more layers of makeup and accessories and went as what not to wear, and then cleaned it up a bit and went high femme, and if you had to ask, you didnt get to know....

MsMoxie...are you coing to any of the events next weekend? I have my football banquet for the Crush tonight. Its at a banquet and conference center...semi formal. I can't wait to see what Jade is wearing. I am told I clean up nicely..lol

On Halloween the teacher i co advise with and I switched rles..it was a blast. She wore my shoulder pads and football jersey, I wore a wig<long brown hair..lol) some bling and a pair of jades high heel clicky shoes a black silk shirt and dress pants, I could not for the life of me put on make up..lol One of the teachers said damn Laura you look kinda hot as a femme..lol I relpied saying , ummm NOT. I like being butch Besides i got a nasty blister on my toe and feel much more comfy in my shorts tee shirts khakis and and flannel...lol I must say...how in the hell do you ladies wear thise shoes? The only benefit i had was i was a few inches taller...lol I canme in the next day in my health/PE teacher wear and felt sooooo much more comfortable.

Dear Miss Robin--me too, me too! i always do my nails at the computer! it started as a way to procastinate in college--there wasn't a paper ever written without a perfect manicure, though i did bite my nails at the time....eeeiiiichhhkkk. nasty habit, so glad i kicked that. (and the other nastiness, too. I AM STILL NOT SMOKING!)

So now I'm drinking tea and warming my hands by the toasty computer screen, polishing my nails

Miss Robin

to all--i've been a bit busy and all about lately. my prayers to the major appliance goddesses were a wee bit twisted up....my new dryer is sitting in my living room awaiting the arrival of an electrician to install that 220 four-prong plug thingamabob. such a tease. sexy new washer and dryer and not a thing can be washed, rinsed or tiumbled. *sigh* anyone know an electrician? ( a real true licensed and insured one, not the hobbyist kind.)

speaking of major appliances--STB, I got an interesting letter in the mail from your employer... is it a scam? is it for real? i'm skeptical. PM me.

looking forward to seeing you all at this weekend's festivities!

(d) to all --mox

I love Bingo. I'm a Bingo shark. I'll play bingo with the deaf club, the geriatric teeth-r-not-us club, anyone. I'm currently playing Bingo with the Gazette. They printed a card and publish numbers everyday (I'm not winning. You have to cover the whole card. I'm pissed. I'm considering ransaking the Gazette office for those winning numbers.:o). I even like the song about the farmer and his dog, and Bingo was his name-o.

I bit my nails too, MsMox. Most of my life. I think I give myself a better manicure than the pros. CONGRATS ON NOT SMOKING!!! yay! And a new dryer ... I'm jealous. I love appliances (almost as much as Bingo). In the past, I've found electricians by opening the phone book and calling a name that is familiar from trucks in the area. But I don't remember a name.

Glad to hear you are a Bingo devotee. My family has heavy ties to Bingo. My favorite aunt, now deceased, was a weekly Bingo player. My mother goes to Bingo more than once a week. The first time my sister brought my niece(my mom's first grandchild) east from Oregon to visit- my mom found a way to justify going to Bingo rather than hanging with the grandchild. Appalling really, but shows a true dedication....hmm or is that addiction?

I was in Lewiston ME over ten years ago with the Lesbian Avengers from NYC doing a voter registration around local ordinance that would ban Gay something or other I forget. But the local gay bar had a Gay Bingo night. I was in heaven having longed for gay bingo and living in the Pioneer Valley never dreaming that my mill town dreams could come to fruition. Alas, I never made it to Gay Bingo in Lewistion ME- I was too tired and none of the NYC Lesbian Avengers were keen.

Ambien/Ardent -- are you coming to Rob's on Thurs night for pizza and a campy movie? I found something on the UMass Queer-e list that I think you'll enjoy:

Dance Northampton is starting a Tea Dance for the LGBT community on the first Sunday of each month. The first one starts November 5th from 3-6
p.m. There will be a Salsa beginner lesson from 3-4 p.m. The cost is $8.
Please pass this along to your LGBT friends. Dance Northampton is
located on Pleasant Street in Northampton next to the

What do you know about this outfit, Soph1? Should we go en mass?

Miss Robin~ The tea dance sounds excellent but those are prime hours with my terrific daughter... Perhaps a "playdate" for her could mean a playdate for me? I'd love to give it a whirl (even though my salsa skills are lacking...

Everyone: Shall we made a tea dance date for the first Sunday in December?

No harm done Ardentfemme, I don't think my secret identity was truly revealed with that. I won't report it to the thread police this time....

Miss R, thank you. I had poodles growing up; great dogs, but I always wanted a boxer, then ended up with two. Something about this butch with a poodle doesn't quite look right.

See you all in a few days....

welcome perabo--looking forward to meeting you!
i gotta say, tho, one can't judge a butch by hys/her poodle, right stb?
said as a femme former poodle owner, and a lil teeny tiny dog auntie to a very tall and very butch friend. my cat is the butchest, baddest feline in town, unless of course, we include df's cat; but she is femme. my rosie is a butch top
(sidenote to the TSB's: not to be confused with a topshelfbutch, of course.:P )

Hi MsMoxie...looking forward to meeting you also.

I do have to say that there is nothing wrong with a butch and a poodle, I apologize if I offended anyone with that comment. I was just a wee baby butch and had poodles for years....however, now I have an affection for the boxer breed, and also like that even though they would lick an intruder to death, they at least "look" intimidating to strangers. As for my black pug Vinnie, well, he is not all that smart, and not a very good guard dog, but he is a great cuddler. (he is a great chick magnet, but I do not really need him for that now)
I am off to get another day of work under my belt so I can get on the plane to see Noho in two days. Have a great day!

Well Perabo,
as you might have guessed by now, I am a big old poodle-toting stonebutch. ::shrug:: I agree with you that there is an undeniable strange juxtaposition in seeing a butch with a soft little prancing poodle. It feels perverted to me and, well, that's always a good thing ;)
But then you'll meet her this weekend(y) Can't wait to meet you; I've heard many good things from our own Noho...

So, about the pizza night this Thursday, I need ahead count and a pizza-topping-perference list and I'll order the pizzas (we'll chip in atthe time I guess?) and provide some beer/wine and pick up a movie. How does that sound?

I know LadyCS, Gb, Woobie, Nohofemme, my baby and I will be there....I can'tremember if others are sure about coming...but what I really need to know is what kind of pizzas you want...HEY. Hold the phone. Maybe I should get a bunch of Boboli's and we can all make our own pizzas?!? I did this once at a party and it was a blast. Someone could bring mozzarella, pepperoni, and other veggies and so on. What do people think about that? Or should we make it easy and just order?

the airbone and zicam are the ticket WHILE you party at a bash! I was healthy after my first bash because I didn't have to travel but after N'awlins EVERYONE got sick and I couldn't avoid it.

I would say that stuff is my best advice on what to take to a bash...

I'm sure you're feeling better by now... hopefully cause there is to be more partaying this weekend!

XOXOXOXOXOX

Jade and I went to the 1st tea dance and learned to salsa, it was wonderful. Jade is such a great dancer, me..it takes a little more time for me to get it down but I eventually did.

Perabo, looking forward to meeting you this weekend in noho.

Ms Moxie, I am so proud of you not still not smoking , that a very big deal and you should be commended and applauded soi commend and applaud you< the health teacher in me commends and applauds you as well..lol>

Nancy, are you going to be at any of the events this weekend, its been a while, I would love to see you.

Nohofemme, I am home sick with that damn cold...drinking plenty of fluids, taking extea vit.c and airborne. Glad you are feeling better. If you need working out motivation I could meet you at the gym one day, its always nice to have a workout partner, makes the time go by quicker. I am big on weight lifting and just got my off season strength and conditioning program from our coach. I also take the spin classes , they are a great workout, intense but you burn about 900 calories in an hour. I am less enthusiastic about cardio but hey i know i need it..lol

Hpe everyone is having a fantastic day, looking forward to meeting so many of you this weekend. Jade and I are excited for the upcoming festivities.

LK. I will not be there this weekend. I went back and forth about it and did not RSVP in time before the reservations where all taken, so then I decided to go to a convention with my straight middled aged people.

I guess hanging with my middle aged straight ladies is my destiny. I would like to see you as well. I think I mentioned I went to Jen and Suzy's wedding.? No poetry at all at a lesbian wedding- go figure. I attribute it to there being science majors, but I am a little silly like that. It was a nice wedding.

I kind of really wanted to go this weekend but sometimes it is easier for me to do the familiar ( like the convention I have gone to the last 7 years .) than to branch out to do something new.

I went to Lez Zeppelin on Friday. Like I said before a very different crowd than at the night stage at Michigan. It was interesting. The band seems like they are nice people.

Anyways, I hope you all have a great weekend. It is impressive how quickly you organized your event. I sure it will be a great success.

N.
