[COLOR=darkred]In other news, we've now had three suspect messages left in classroom buildings around campus - threatening violence with a weapon. :|

While we've been notified of the messages and generally of their content, there has been absolutely no notification of what our 'emergency plan' is - should something horrible happen.

Sounds like you had a really exciting trip but my god, the stuff going on at school is awful. I haven't heard anything about it...I'm so out of the loop from working too much (laughing about moxie's building comment). I hope they figure out who's behind that crap.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the Wig tomorrow. Alas, off to sleep. Night noho

STB--

One of these days S and I will pay a visit to the new STB wing!

Apparently, another college is getting similar threats--except to my knowledge the one in (Bridgewater?) was isolated to one day 2/28, so ours is a bit of a different situation.

In the words of Amy Winehouse, what kind of fuckery is this?

Enjoy tini night!! See y'all next time.

BTW--LADY C, INFINITBLU, AND S1---I'VE TAGGED YOU TO POST IN THE MEME THREAD. STALK ME TO FIND IT AND GO CHECK IT OUT.

Good morning everyone!

LadyC, what wound up happening at UMass? Your NYC trip sounds fabulous! Did you mean Courbet prints? How amazing to see that and Schnabel in a casual setting! Courbet is one of my favorite artists and I can't wait to see his retrospective at the Met.

MsMoxie, the Chinese restaurant ... oh right! That's the Great Wall. I think it's the best. That was a good shortcut for the Meme thread. I got tagged as well.

Softness, is the weather going to be awful tonight? I hope you and NHPB can make it.

See the rest of you tonight! I really look forward to the Tuesday night 'tinis.

Yes, it is horrible ~ regardless of whether they're empty threats aimed at closing school for a day ~ threatening violence with a weapon is just ICK.
The police on campus are treating it very seriously, but I've not seen a report of it in the press - I assume the Administration doesn't want to give the people doing this that kind of airtime, lest that encourage further threats.

The NYC trip was fabulous, but a fly-by!

The artist I mentioned was Gregory Colbert, his internationally traveling exhibit is called Ashes and Snow. Check it out here http://www.ashesandsnow.org (http://www.ashesandsnow.org/)
The work is beyond stunning, so to see an original full size prints in their home was simply gasp-worthy. As it turns out the (our hosts for the event) are friends of the artist and actually traveled on a shoot to the Galapagos Islands.

I had the opportunity to see the exhibit in Venice wayyyyyy back and then again in Santa Monica a few years ago.

And there is a good possibility that we *may* be going to Mexico City at the end of the month and will get to see it again! *SQUEEEEE* The collection keeps growing ~ explore the website, it is truly stunning. Also check out the info on the Nomadic Museum. The current Nomadic Museum is made of bamboo and when the exhibit ends it will be recycled in to low-income sustainable housing in Mexico City.

Have fun tonight with the 'tinis.
I have a dinner engagement so won't be able to make it!

I did an informal survey and March 22 works for most people. So this is the plan below.

Pearls, do you have children? Feel free to bring them. Fem-me is bringing her 15 year-old daughter.

Cynnicalbutch, nice to see you here again! You should come to the Tuesday night b/f social.

LadyC, I saw something of Colbert's in NYC at the pier. I think it was a temporary structure of some sort. I missed the elephant show though.

yes they are! As NHPB and I woke up today, he said he heard Jays outside. I had been hearing birds for the past few days and told him I felt spring was coming round again..in two weeks your area will be breathing crocus and pips of woodland plants will be eeking out of the melting snow. I saw grass today!

Well, I don't want to out anyone so I'll keep :-#

I am afraid I won't be able to make it tomorrow night, I'm sorry.

I'm in the middle of a really insane semester, I'm working very looooong days to try to accomplish everything that needs to be done (and still not succeeding)!

I have to keep fairly strict with myself about time management & social commitments ~ otherwise I'd be even more exhausted and remiss than I already am.

Hopefully, my long days will let up soon and I'll be better able to be wantonly social in the mid-week.

Miss Robin--"The coy duo", you say? Hmm. That's funny.
Ok, fine. I'll bite. There was a belated celebration of a birthday.
We're both 27, if anyone cares or wonders.

My calendar and reserves are both a bit overwhelmed at present. Keeping rather still and subdued. Not sure if I'll make The Sober Dance or the events that Miss Robin has planned. The Sober Dance looks like such a great event. Enjoy Enjoy Enjoy! BTW, Miss, are you advertising that weekend in other threads?

Lady C--the promise of your wanton sociality warms my little cockles. Yes, you were missed. And I fear I may have lapsed in my last response to you. EEEP! bad mox. Maybe when I turn 28 I'll be better at the rsvping?

What is a cockle anyway?

I finally have a real wireless connection of my very own. I've been paying for it for 2 years, but never could get on my own network. GRRR. So, four hours later and another installation fee gone wild, VIOLA. And I find I can actually get on site and stay here instead of being bumped off.

Lest I forget, we are both accepting belated and early-bird birthday wishes and gifts. You may freely shower either or both parties of the Coy Duo with your offerings.(g)<:o)

It was nice to see everyone again. We had to twiddle our collective thumbs waiting for some people to move out of our 'round-the-fireplace spot. I wonder if we should come up with a new location once the weather gets warm? Maybe on the deck of the Brewery.

Hey S1, did you figure it out?

When you're looking at the image you should see an option to "edit photo" below the image (around the same place that you can click "post a comment")

Click edit and then at the bottom of that screen will be a tick box option to delete photo.

Good gloomy afternoon, Noho.

This week a couple b/f social regulars are out-of-town. I have a commitment on Tuesday night this week so I'm hoping we can make it on Wednesday night. My daughter and her friend (both queer) will be in town and I'll bring them along.

March 19, Wednesday, 7:30
The Wig b/f social @
Wiggins Tavern
Hotel Northampton

And don't forget next weekend!:

Saturday, March 22

4pm ~~ Tea/coffee and sweets at Fiorentina Italian bakery (this is the only place I can think of that can accomodate a lot of people)

6-8pm ~~ Gallatica karaoke bowling!

8pm ~~ Dinner at a Chinese restaurant (because they can usually seat a lot of people on a Sat night)

10pm on ~~ Drinks and dancing at Diva's

Miss Robin

Did anyone read today's NYT Magazine section about transmen at women's colleges? Smith is mentioned, as is Brett-Genny from the Stonewall Center at UMass.

Although I won't be attending this weeks events...with the preparation for and commitments of Holy Week (the week preceding and including the Easter Tridium)...I hope fun is had by all and someone takes pictures for the galleries!

Thank you, OD, I read it (in hard copy; my fav) but wondered if others had. So this is interesting -- your profile says "heretic" but you're entangled in Holy Week? Exactly what kind of heretic are you, OD?

Rob referred to me as a Heretic Queer in the Butch = Woman or Man? thread. I was very pleased.

I'm sorry you can't make it.

I often change my profile as a subtle social commentary...now my secret is out...THANKS Miss Robin, just thanks!;)

PS I hear through the grapevine that the Brass Cat in Easthampton is the place to be seen on Friday nights????????

Is that true?

Once... I changed it to craggy and now heretic...in solidarity with you and others as you take on the challenges of words and language... and all that then ensues.

Holy week isn't as much of an entanglement for me as it is deeply personal and a period of reflection on the metaphors of hope, failure, social justice, sadness and resurrection or rebirth...honestly it's my favorite time of year...but that is another thread entirely and probably more than anyone wanted to know.

OD

Who now has to come up with a new ? line...

I'll now be taking suggestions....Bueller, anyone...

I've heard through the grape vine that the Brass Cat in Easthampton is the new place to be seen?? True...Not True Check one and send this back before recess

Hey OD how goes it?
Yes, just skimmed the article. First blush, interesting, annoying, predictable, unfortunately I have no time tonight for a back and forth about it as I will likely already be up til 2 preparing for work tomorrow. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

We are trying to work it out to join you for this evening, at least through dinner. Are there any other children who will be attending? My daughter is 15, and not especially thrilled about attending an all-adult event. Especially one where she has to bowl. :s If there are any kids of b-f'ers who will be hanging out at home with their computers or TV's, she'd go for that, I think.

Let me know what is expected.

Thanks!

I will rearrange my schedule to AT LEAST take pictures of this
being kind of a "bowling snob" if there is such a thing (maybe it's an oxymoron lol)
yes, I was an extreme bowler in my youth meaning I took copious amounts of ummm, "art supplies" and tried to "beat my score" each time we went
mostly I just thought the glow in the dark stuff was really pretty <:o)

Oh good! Holliday I hope we see you tonight! And this weekend.

Jesterbutch, see you on Saturday. I like bowling but I prefer sitting on the molded plastics seats, drinking a soda, and gabbing until someone says, "Robin, your turn ... Robin, your turn ... ROBIN, YOUR TURN!!!!..." ;)

And Lynn, yes, there are other teenagers this weekend. Pearls has a son and I might be able to twist my son's arm and his girlfriend's into coming. My daughter might be around but she might be heading back to school on Sat because she works on Sunday.

I was reminded at the b/f social last night that I should give directions. Here we go:

Saturday, March 22

4pm ~~ Tea/coffee and sweets at La Fiorentina Italian bakery (this is the only place I can think of that can accomodate a lot of people)

If you're coming off I91, make a left off the ramp and you'll be on Pleasant St. Take that about 1/2 mile to Armory which is right before the main Noho intersection. Make a left and drive a few stores and you'll see La Fiorentina on your right.

6-8pm ~~ Gallatica karaoke bowling!

Spare Time Bowling. Off I91, make a left and it's right there near the on-ramp.

8pm ~~ Dinner at a Chinese restaurant (because they can usually seat a lot of people on a Sat night)

Teapot Restaurant. On Main Street not far from the corner of Pleasant and Main. It's across the street from the big church -- First something or another.

10pm on ~~ Drinks and dancing at Diva's

Divas is right across the street from the bowling alley on Pleasant St.

See you on Saturday! I'm excited to see old friends and meet new people!

I won't tell anyone what Enormous Bugs, Cunt, Feet, Yo Mama, Genderfuck I find lurking in your cranium, Blav.

At the Met STB and I saw Courbet's Origin of the World,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L'Origine_du_monde (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L'Origine_du_monde)
which the museum tucked behind a wall in a gallery back alley. I thought Lacan owned that painting but he owned an abstract landscape-ish version of it. The Sleepers is a lush, gorgeous painting:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Courbet_Sleep.jpg
The pearls on the bed. Those fascinated me.

Ms Moxie, a fun day was had by all. We all had a strike or two in bowling -- even Rob, who bowls like a cross between Fred Flintstone and the Godfather because he's avoiding doing anything that looks like a curtsy. Cicibird didn't bowl because she was being demure and wouldn't change her shoes, and Blavatsky wasn't there yet. At Divas, I danced with Liz/Lizivious (sp?) and Cynnical butch made a brief appearance sporting a very nice haircut. Blavatsky has a cool hair look and had on a nice retro heavy metal t-shirt. Misha/Pearls and Trace are both kickass bowlers and incredibly good dancers and just all around terrific people (and they had nice clothes and hair too. lol). Boxergal sings like you wouldn't believe. She did Patsy Cline karaoke at the bowling alley (maybe I am in Kansas afterall?) and is also a good dancer. Oh yeah, and at dinner we were joined by the young couple, Butchboston and Melissa (whose screen name I don't know, but she was on the femme mobile last Pride).

See you for tinis tomorrow night!

The sad thing is, it was actually a CURRENT heavy metal t-shirt! haha.
P.S. Jesus, I missed karaoke?!
P.S.S. I can't believe they placed The Origin of The World behind a wall, like the "porn section" in the video store. Then again, our local art center posted warnings at an art exhibit celebrating Breastfeeding informing patrons that they were about to see Naked Breasts. So, wtf do I know...

My dear, what a lovely day we had...But The Origin of the World itself was owned by Lacan (he was the last private owner, before it made its way from museum to museum--this is what the placard said). His brother-in-law was Andre Masson, who saw the painting at Lacan's abode and painted the surrealist immitation of the painting at Lacan's request. Lacan probably at one point owned them both, actually.

There is too much art to see in the world. I'm glad we made it to that show. The Origin of the World was astounding to come upon (so to speak) suddenly and intersting to consider in terms of how provocative and daring it was at the time it was created but there were so many other fabulous paintings.

Those Balthus paintings were something.

LOL yes, the concept of "being late" is interesting. I think of it rather like, one can be late for work, late for a movie, late for a plane or late for a date, but the Wiggins things seem more like folks just show up sometime after (7:30 now 8:00) and we stay till around thus and so depending on the crowd. It is really more of an "ish" time than a written in stone time.

S1 <-- who will likely be there at some point.;)

That's quite the theory, S1! See you tomorrow .... whenever. :)

Jester, several people don't drink alcohol. And those of us who do are the one martini or a couple beers types. It's not a let's get sloshed kind of get-together. Maybe see you tomorrow?

Well, it seems that I got a case of hermititis last night. With work piled up around me and books and papers in disarray, I suddenly felt the need to be reclusive and clear the decks. Ooo just writing about things being out of order gets me edgy!8o|

Plus, with big jobs out of the way, I am now going :| um okay...next, ..... :| ... anything? I definitely have FJ. (Freelance Jitters), which is better than FT (Freelance Terrors!) I am sure some of you know exactly what I mean.

Hope those that went out last night had a grand time. I am sure that Michelle took good care of everyone.

Hey, 8-) is the Sparkly one back from her travels yet?

And when does Mr. Bone return from this fabulously grand family “vacation” I have been reading about? (h)

Oh well off to the Post Office, (the Florence Post Office) to see if my PO Box contains the much awaited reviews from recent jobs.

Enjoy the day Northampton B’s & F’s

I'm back! I'm back!

I had a perfectly deeeeeeeeelightful time in Chicago with the boxed1.
It's a city full of amazing art & architecture. I love it much.

I'm in charge of a teenager this weekend, anyone have any grand ideas for keeping him out of trouble???
I'm thinking we'll hit the cinema one evening and maybe the Lead Randazzo show at the Iron Horse (is there an age admittance policy at the Iron Horse?)
...but i'm struggling with a greater agenda - - all suggestions are welcome.

How is everyone?

Ironically, I have spent a greater part of my day arranging tickets for said orange ball/hoop game...but the NIT finals happen tomorrow night & in NYC...not here...

besides the boy is not the hugest of sports fan.
(he is, afterall, my babybrother, :s )...
(we'll be hanging out while the remainder of our family attends a small white ball/wooden bat event in toronto this weekend)
skiing and tennis, we can get behind...the rest... not so much.

the max roach exhibit sounds cool, i may pop over there and check that out on my lunch break tomorrow.

* * * * * * *

we may end up sleeping late & then reading (our respective books) on either end of the sofa, which is our standard 'winter-time' agenda.

...but thanks for your suggestions 1,S1 :D

but tho it seemed i was getting the ick of sick completed with the grumpyumpies....and so avoided the wig the other day, early to bed with magical tea with extra honey, i thwarted it once again! woo-shall we say--hoo.

Hey all you Northamptonites and Friends.

Hope you have a good time at Wiggins tonight. Have a seltzer and cranberry juice for me!

Hey did anyone hear about the dumb ass that shot the black bear that had walked into his lawn in Granby. He says the bear got "too close" to his house and was "after his cats" so he had to shoot it with a bow and arrow. Of course the dumb ass only wounded it and it ran off into the woods where the environmental cops had to track it down and put it down.

Classic example of IGNORANCE and STUPIDITY. Although personally, I think he just wanted to kill a bear, he had what looked like serious 60 to 70 lb draw hunting bow and arrows of the broad head 3 bladed type. I would love to take one of his arrows and shove it... oh never mind. This is exactly why I didn't become an environmental cop. The end of the story would be about how he trip and fell on his arrow. The police are pressing charges against him. I bet he will get off easily, with some tiny fine at most.

Okay not only am I sick, now Im mad... grrrrr: 8o| :rant2:

Hey Miss R,

Tumbleweeds always remind me of a really scary Twilight Zone I saw when I was a kid. I'm scared by tumbleweeds. I've dreamed of them.

I don't belong to any organizations for writers, editors, or indexers. Do you? Some people do for the health insurance. It's probably unwise of me not to be affiliated. I just joined LinkedIn but don't know how to navigate yet.

Can you believe what a gorgeous day it is?! I dropped my car off at Noho Tire to have my tires switched and I walked to the PO (Boxergal, you weren't there but Hellllp YOUUUUUU was) and then to Deals & Steals to see if they had any running shoes I liked (n), and then I bought a Margaret Atwood book at Broadside, Onxy and Crake, and sat outside at Woodstar with an ice latte and scone and the book. It could have been the French Riviera, I was so pleased to sit and read in the warm sun after the winter. Then I called Rob to pick me up :) because my sandals unexplicably hurt my feet (my feet changed since last year?).

At that's all the news from over here.

Hey Miss R.

Twilight Zone was a scary show!! I think I saw that episode. I'll not use the reference again if it scares you :|

Yes, I belong to the Society for Environmental Journalists. I was looking at a ASJA conference that is taking place in NYC this weekend, but as I saw it so late, attending wasn’t really an option.

Yes it was a beautiful day! Time to take the kayak out of hiding! We have had deer tromping through the field in front of my house almost every morning. Me? Oh I’m inside on the computer, which seems wrong, very wrong!

but it's gorgeous out and i can;t bear to be inside.

Yes it is a beautiful day in the neighborhood. One would think I would be out tromping about the woods or the like, but no… the list says “clean basement.” Plus my favorite woods tromper arounder is sick so, clean the basement it is. (Although today is perfect S1 weather, just the right temperature * sigh *)

Perhaps the “cleaning the basement” can spill over onto the patio outside the basement and turn into a wee bit of gardening… hummm …

LOL S1, at a porn show? :o I tend to restrict my viewing of, or participation in anything risqué or pornographic to the privacy of my home. :-# And that is about all I am saying about that as in the S1 world that is already TMI! :| Lol

Hope all who attend have a grand time though.

1, S1, “Aficionado of many things Irish” ya, kinda has a ring to it. I’ll keep it.

I saw Michael Flatley a thousand years ago when he was performing on a tour with the Chieftains. Nobody knew him back then and he was just “that young guy with the amazingly high kicks and fast feet!” lol

I was in Ireland when Riverdance hit the scene. Ha I bought a video of the performance, and being a bit techno-impaired, I had no idea that the recording systems were different in Europe than here. So, really what I did was by a video of snow in Ireland! :s

Might actually be able to make the Tuesday night soirée this time around. I don’t know though, I heard Michele our favorite bartender was MIA last time. :'(

Btw S1, LinkedIn is a professional networking site with tens of thousands of members. I've yet to do a profile and figure it out, but once I showed up at all, old friends and even a half-sister I barely know, contacted me.

I am not sure about anything happening in Northampton on Earth Day.
There is this link for those who are interested in sort of “nutshell information” regarding Massachusetts and the environment:

http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=mg2homepage&L=1&L0=Home&sid=massgov2

Birkenstocks? Why, I’ll have you know I have never worn Birkenstocks in my life LOL!

8-) Of course, we could celebrate the day/week ourselves by bringing some current environmental/ecological topics to the table. I mean hell, anything and everything is related to the environment, even having a drink or putting on nail polish.

Why should folks who love Margarita love bats as well?
Tequila is produced from agave plants, whose flowers open at night and attract bats with their nectar. As the bats feed from the flowers, their fur gets coated with pollen, which is then spread to other plants as they search for more food.
The bats and the agave plants have become so dependent upon each other, scientists believe neither species could survive in the wild without the other. In fact, the seed production of agave plants drops to one-three thousandth of normal when bats are not around to cross-pollinate them.

Toxic nail polish?
Have the makers of your favorite nail polish removed the DBP’s ?
The polishes, acrylics, and other products used in nail salons contain some 20 chemicals flagged by the Environmental Protection Agency as having potential symptoms and health effects.

One could go on and on.. but one has to get to work.

There, I have thrown down the environmental topics gauntlet for next week! Takers?

Have grand days all

Last night "my" owl returned for the first time since fall.
Tonight, I hear the first peepers of the year awakening.
Soon, they will become cacophony.
The seasons are so distinctly flamboyant in Vermont.
So extraordinarily beautiful.

I.... have fleece... and birks. I worked at summer camp for a few too many years. I could earth day it up next week complete with a lack of makeup and wash-n-go hair. We could make a campfire and cook dinner over it and sing kumbaya?

Maybe I'll catch some of you at Pride?
I have to work earlier in the day ~ but will pop along later that afternoon/evening.

now Ms R...I happen to be wearing a pair of berkies at this very moment! And I have tons of fleece! I am, afterall, a farm femme...my purses have a western flare to them. My shoes can look like cowboi boots. But I still wear my pearls and add make up....I cant exactly clean stalls or work in the garden in heels....so I have TWO wardrobes...and isnt that just every femmes dream..to be able to shop for more? LOL....

Welcome back and welcome home, Softness!

I have owned at least 3 pairs of birks. I have a great green pair. I havent worn them in a while. Maybe I'll drag them out and wear them *right now*. I did get rid of all my flannel a long long time ago. I love fleece. However, i am quite certain that, recycled from bottles as it may be, what fleece i do own is probably made by starving children in sweat shop conditions, and are flown here, and shipped about in bigass trucks, creating a gargantuan carbon footprint and contributing to the exploitation of children and the economies of developing nations. And, my birks are leather.

So, um. I fail the Earth Day test.

I best start swaying and singing kumbaya.
anyone got a drum?

let's replace the lighter with a few dry sticks to redeem ourselves a bit.

it's beautiful outside!!!

Greetings to my neighbors to the north!

Can someone please tell me when Noho pride is? My friends and I are planning to take a little road trip again this year. We had a great time the past two years and look forward to doing it all again this year.

I hope to see some of you up there,

hey undunn and all others :)

Pride is Saturday May 3 at the Thornes Parking Lot (between parking garage and Pleasant Street if you can picture that)
The "march itself" starts at Bridge Street Elementary and heads winding down to there...you really can't miss it but traffic is impossible so I suggest parking way off away from the madness and walking into town...

Hope to see some of you waving lighters (or panties HA HA) in front of the stage at 2 pm when our band plays (we are kind of like the Smothers Brothers meets Acid Rock) :P

Let's make every day gay pride day (ip)

P.S> we will also be at Yellow Sofa this coming Saturday April 26, 24 Main Street in Noho, yo

Jester,
Thanks for the info. We'll definitely be there. I look forward to hearing your band. I was in an all butch band a few years ago (we imploded before we had time to get a real following lol) and I love all live music.

Hey Unndunn,

Yes, I think I will likely be at Pride but the mox may have to work that day. :( She may be around for evening festivities such as dinner and or drinks if there is anything like that happening.

I have pretty much gone to Pride since the first one we had in Northampton, (very different back then!) so it is sort of a tradition. Over the past couple of years, there has been a designated spot for BF folks to meet up. Perhaps we should designate such a spot again this year.

I think the corner of the parking lot by Dynamite Records/Cornucopia Entrance of Thornes is a great place to meet.

I've no idea what time I'll make it there ~ mid-to-late afternoon sometime, so its not appropriate for me to set a meet up time.

But perhaps you could set up "hand-hold" times (130/230/330/whatever): take turns going to meet people & then bring them back & introduce them 'round the larger amassed group.

Or alternately we could email everyone 1,S1 face jpegs ~ to be printed, cut-out & glued to Popsicle sticks (ala 'being john malkovich') ~ and then everyone could find each other super-easy-like! :D

lol 1,S1 face jpegs ha! I do like your other idea though, ie the corner of the parking lot by Dynamite Records/Cornucopia Entrance of Thornes. I like the general meeting times too. Maybe 1, 2 and 3pm? Introductions 'round the larger amassed group sounds fab!

UPDATE
Had to take the mox to the ER this morning. Last night she thought she was having a bout of food poisoning, but it turned out not to be that. Blood work and CT scans later, we still have no answer for why she is experiencing so much pain. They originally thought it may have been appendicitis but they are 90&#37; sure that is not it. Have to consult with more Docs.

She is now home with me, tucked in with drugs and books and magazines and an intercom to summon me when need be. Hard for the nurse to be the patient, but I am putting my foot down.

I hope everyone else is well.

I'll also be at Pride, though I hadn't yet determined in what capacity... is anyone marching? I always enjoy marching, but it's also nice to just watch the parade and socialize. So just tell me the plan and I'll be there!

We're still ironing out the details about Pride. There might be a femme float again. Rob has to see about getting a truck and securing a place in line. It was so much fun last year! I have all the femme banners in my basement.

As to meeting at the rally: LadyC, that's a good spot but it's not far from Rob's Toyota booth. Maybe that should be the central meeteing place since it fairly easy to find a Toyota parked in the middle of Pride.

HI all. How is everyone? I'm probably going to have another big Toyota pickup this year and RObin and I will meet everyone at the park, say around 11:20? To put the banners on the truck.

FEMMES: call your friends and tell them to walk with us--we have probably 10 or 12 femme pride signs for you all to hold from last year, but make more if you want. I have room for 6 in the truck and more can ride in the bed too.

Does anyone know if there's a teadance?

Oh it all fits. They put the stage at the end of the lot that abuts the street. Its all a bit jam-packed, but so much better than the few years when the powers that be saw fit to arrange that all us queers march OUT of town to the indoor arena near the airport. What a weird idea that was.

Bone, Martha is queer. A gossipy butch trainer I worked alongside in NYC was her trainer (not lover, alas). But then I thought my boyfriend George Clooney was queer and look what happened. I can't believe there was a Pride where you marched out of town! lol. Who was the mayor?

They could still use that park (the concrete skate-"park" bit is only a small area of the green) - but I understand that they're re-seeding the grass because it is an area that often floods & when the rains are heavy it washes out whole sections. 'Twould be all sorts of swampy this weekend coming, given our forecast.

S1, I forgot all about those few years of going to the Veteran's Field. That was really the best place for the Pride rally, but yes, as you said, it is a skate park. Amazingly, but in a predictable teenage feat of clumsiness, Robin's son managed to fall and get stiches at that skate park without a skateboard and before the place was even open, in winter last year.

About Pride: I'm going to have a big Toyota pickup which some local femmes, some on this site, many off the site, are planning on adorning with a banner or two in support of the Femme Pride marchers. So this is a big {{{{{{shout out}}}}}} to all femmes who are going to pride to come march with these lovely femmes --Miss R, cici, LizSybarite, infiniteblu, moxie all know about it from the Wiggins martini evenings but the rest of you COME.

We're meeting at the truck around 11:30-11:40 and it'll be parked along the road in front of the park. Look for me and MissR. Butches are welcome. You can ride in the truck with me :) Or march with the girls. It's going to be a helluva good day.

Gladly - here's the email I received:

Hello Femme Friends!
It's that time of year again - Northampton Pride is just around the corner -
and we're organizing another contingent of femmes to march together. We'll
meet at Lampron Park (by Bridge St. School) at 11:45 next Saturday, May 3rd.
The march starts promptly at 12 (it's surprisingly prompt) so please come
early!

In preparation, Charlotte has organized a night of sign-making at her house
this Thursday, May 1st at 7:30. She lives behind Northampton High School -
email ccapogna@gmail.com or call 582-1866 for the address and directions.

We'll have the poster board, markers, and glitter; you bring your witty
slogans and inspired sayings. (A dollar or two for supplies would be great
too!)

Please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested in joining
us!

xoxo,
corinna

I don't know whether I'll be able to make the sign-making, but I'll definitely march! :)

Still trying to decide what to wear for Pride... I'm leaning toward a summery dress, low-heeled sandals and completely ridiculous rainbow-themed eye makeup. Oh, and maybe a big hat!

hey there!
hope to see you and nhpb!
i am guessing the entire parade distance is no more than 1-1.5 miles. it's about 8 blocks or so. anyone know for sure?

i suck at guessing distance. i always get puzzled when i see the fire trucks with their warnings--stay back 500 feet. wtf is that? 500 feet--somewhere between a car length and a football field....ha. like *i* know from football fields.

i wont be around for the parade part, but i love the idea of the femmes being escorted by (or adorning the inside of) a t-bird convertibile!

i bet stb and miss r are the best folks to chat with about *that*

NHPB wants to know if you all would like either/or or either/AND his big truck (no plow ladies, its been "packed" away for the season!) and his Tbird convertible? He is willing to bring one or both....

Also, how long is this pride parade? As in distance wise....I am not so sure I can walk any great length

Still trying to decide what to wear for Pride... I'm leaning toward a summery dress, low-heeled sandals and completely ridiculous rainbow-themed eye makeup. Oh, and maybe a big hat!

~L

Liz, thanks for forwarding that info! I have a bunch of signs from last year and the Paradise City Femmes banner. I just emailed Charlotte about dropping them at her house tonight. She can be in charge of accoutrement and Rob will be in charge of the truck, and I, like you, will be figuring out what to wear. You have a fabulous flair for style my dear!

Oooooo! This is interesting! I think PB should PM STB (lol! it sounds like an affliction) about the vehicles. I, like MsMoxie, (I do like MsMoxie) don't know the length of the parade or any of the protocol or who to contact. I'm just glad you and PB will be there!

Oh, I'm sad to be missing out on Noho Pride this year! I didn't even realize that the femme float was happening again. (I guess that's what happens when I neglect my social life.) :$

But...I will be in town for the NOLOSE conference this fall. :D I'm so excited it's being held in our neck of the woods!! It looks like I'll be hosting a mailing "party" to get flyers out, so if anyone is interested in volunteering send me a PM.

Holliday! Nooooo! I'll miss your gorgeousness on the femme float! And your fabulous music! That is very cool that NOLOSE will be right in Northampton in the fall. That means lots of queers around town. I love that.

p.s. I have a femme friend who has a karaoke machine who said you can play music and speak over it so the femmes can take turns being provocateurs. ;)

You're doubting the gossip of a personal fitness trainer?! What, I have to get Martha's hairdresser for you? I think Martha should be with Jane Lynch from the L Word and Best in Show. We can be blinded by their blonde whiteness. It's All Good.

Miss Robin

Honey. Martha says its a "good thing," not "it's all good" which is a hokey New England and teenage thing. ::rolling eyes:: you have to keep these shallowhtings straight, or clear but bent, as the case may be.

So about the parade:
Anyone can drive anything in it. Its still a small town event. You just line up and let the people at the park where it starts know that your vehicle is "parading" or whatever and that's that. So bring on the tbird.

This year Pride is going to be a lot of fun.

Pride: It's A Good Thing.

I have been giggling for days about "what? you want me to ask her hairdresser?"
Though I am quite certain that both a personal trainer and hairdresser would be fab sources for true gossip, I bet that whoever is employed within Martha's household would also be a A Good Source. And then there's Blav. ;)

By the way, Martha could use a new hairstylist. Or perhaps a comb. She said, frankly.

Let's hope the weather clears!

Pout. I wanna ride in the convertible!
I won't be there until late afternoon.
Someone (S1 and others?) text or call me with details and plans.
I'm gonna miss Rachel Maddow AGAIN!

well, it looks like we wont be going to the parade...so no convertible nor PB truck will be there. His store employee had to change shift and now we cant get there until later. Wehope you all have a good time...next year, lets plan on decorating a wagon that our horses will pull....we can put rainbow glitter on them...now THAT would be horses of a different color!

Hiya Pearls,

Zoos actually make me really sad :'( so I haven't been to one in decades...

That said - I remember really *loving* the Six Flags Animal Safari in New Jersey when I was young.
http://www.sixflags.com/greatAdventure/nearbyParks/AllAnimals.aspx (http://www.sixflags.com/greatAdventure/nearbyParks/AllAnimals.aspx)
...and because its a "free-roaming" 350 acre preserve it didn't feel so... circus-like-cruel-creatures-in-a-box to me.

I expect its about a 3hour drive from CT to NJ, the park is in not terribly far from the city - probably 1-1.5hours or so.

There are two zoos in the greater Boston area: Franklin Park & Stone Zoo
http://www.franklinparkzoo.org/index.cfm?nodeID=2&stopRedirect=1 (http://www.franklinparkzoo.org/index.cfm?nodeID=2&stopRedirect=1)
I haven't been to either since I was a child, so I couldn't tell you how good or not they are. But I know Franklin Park has undergone huge renovations and upgrades in recent years. I think Franklin Park is known for its gorillas, and i recall a rather unfortunate gorilla escape incident a couple of years ago. :(

Anyway, happy hunting!

I'm helping someone from out of state find a conference center/hotel venue in western mass. if any of you out that way can give me any suggestions, i would truly appreciate it!

Hi, cakebaker, where in Western Mass?

*technically* Western Mass is everything west of Worcester out to the Berkshires/NY border. Is your friend looking for something in the Northampton area, specifically?

What are the basic parameters? How many people attending? How many rooms are needed? Where are guests coming from?

In Northampton there is:

The Clarion http://www.clarionhotel.com/ires/en-US/html/HotelInfo?hotel=MA117&promo=gglocal

Hotel Northampton can accommodate smaller groups/meetings
http://www.hotelnorthampton.com/

Across the river in Amherst, UMass Amherst has conference services
http://www.aux.umass.edu/conferenceservices/

that said, I bet any of the many many colleges and Universities in the area host conferences, particularly during academic year breaks:

Smith, Mt. Holyoke, Hampshire, Amherst - Colleges

Elms, Bay Path, American International, New England - Colleges

to name but a few...

Bigger conferences and conferences where attendees will be traveling from afar (via plane or train or via car from NYC/Boston) tend to be held in Springfield - there is a train station, its 25min from Bradley Airport and just minutes from the MassPike

I've been to a conference at one of the hotels there ... I can't remember exactly which it was... I'll look in to it for you, if needed.

Well, personally, I'd consider $68/night a *really* good rate, and I'd want to stay v. near to where my workshop is.

Boston is an expensive city to stay in!
I'm excited when I can find a hotel under $200/night in Boston.

But...here is a link to the Boston Hostel Organisations....this is a little cheaper http://www.bostonhostel.org/reservations.shtml
If you stay in a 6-bed room.
I have no idea if there is a hostel in close proximity to Northeastern, though!

I was just browsing the thread *coughstalkingthethread* anyways, I just wanted to wish you luck in Boston. I used to live in Erie, MI just across the border from Toledo. Moved out here last August. It's quite a change.

Also, gas prices here really aren't any better. Last time I checked the price was almost to $4, but it may have gone down.

Sorry for popping in, just my two cents.

Hi Cuddlebug :)
Northeastern U is on and around Huntington Avenue which is technically Rte 9. About a 20 minute drive west on Rte 9 in Natick there is a Motel 6 which will be cheaper but no public transportation from there that is ideal so you will end up paying high gas prices if you with a car and the aggravation of stop and go traffic lights and paying for parking at meters. Right by the Museum of Fine Arts and Mass Art there is some free parking but it's hard to get.

There is an international hostel over by Berklee School of Music just off Boylston on Hemenway which is walking distance from Northeastern. In fact, part of the campus is on Hemenway. Here's a link. I think there is small hostel member fee, but recall the nightly rates about 40 bucks.

I just filled up at $3.69/gallon, apparently MA has less taxes on fuel than NY state (thats just an FYI if you're driving through NY on your way you may want to fill up before and after).

The Brewery is not exclusively "gay" and its not exclusively "straight" - pretty much like every place in Northampton. Noho is very queer-centric & pretty damn friendly, on the whole. You shouldn't get any hassle from any one. :)

There is a parking garage behind the Brewery which is the best (read easiest) and cheapest (free for the first hour, .50c every hour after - take your pass with you, you have to pay before you exit) place to park in town.

Metered parking hours are 9am-6pm Mon. - Sat., and our Parking Attendants are 'quick draw' - also note that finding parking in the evenings and weekends can be a real challenge. Which is why I use the garage, even when metered hours are not in effect.

The "back" entrance to the Brewery is often a good place to meet people - it is also where the stairs up to the deck are.

I don't know that I'll be there, I have a pretty hectic week again next week...but you may want to do a quick gallery search on: Liz Sybarite, Sophisticated1, msmoxie, cicibird, Miss Robin & Stone_to_Bone (I imagine some combination of that lovely-lot will be present) ~ and you'll have some faces you'll recognise when you're waiting or looking for them on the deck! Or send a PM to a few of them, I'm sure someone will offer to meet you and introduce you around.

Ooops, edited to add: you asked about a place to stay nearby? Do you mean a hotel?
Here's a few links on local accomodation:

http://www.hampshirehospitality.com/ (http://www.hampshirehospitality.com/)

http://www.bbonline.com/ma/northampton.html (http://www.bbonline.com/ma/northampton.html)

http://www.pioneervalleyinnandsuites.com/ (http://www.pioneervalleyinnandsuites.com/)

If you haven't booked anything, I'd recommend you do so quickly - I believe this weekend coming is Commencement for:
Smith College (in Noho) & Hampshire College (in Hadley - just across the river).
And the following weekend is Commencement for: UMass, Amherst College and Mt. Holyoke College...thatsalotta parents, friends etc. who will be flooding the area, so accomodations will be difficult to secure.

Hi & welcome to Medra! :)

welcome to newcomers! good luck with lodging and conference center findings. For what it's worth, I agree with the good lady--I too prefer to stay near my meeting sites.

our local photgrapher is indeed having a show this coming week. PM me for details. it's sure to be DIVINE--I've had a preview. I know these things.
when said famous photog gives the go-ahead, we'll post details. hint--it's before mid week. as in within the next 4 days. mark your calendars as best you can.

news at 11:

northampton is invaded by giant globs of ginger fur.
recent humidity has caused these normally miniscule everyday blobs to be unusually tenacious and large.
some say it's another sign of global warming.
others suggest that local hoovers, after years of supressing their rage at being used to pick up after the townspeople, have finally revolted and have started secretly spewing thier contents onto unsuspecting owners.
a local team of climate control specialists are working on an eco-airvac-cooling unit.

After a few weeks off ,we're meeting tonight at the Brewery for drinks at 7:30.

I hope to see you all there. We've been so busy in the last few weeks with Theo graduating and the end of the school year and other stuff. It'll be nice to relax and have a beer with friends.

Hey there Unn,

After posting that there was an event happening AND hearing about yet another, I ended up doing absolutely nothing Celtic at all :s. Well,I did hang about with the mox so I was in fine Irish company, but we were both homebodies for the most part. I guess I have to work on my follow through and remember that there are actually people and things going on outside of my house. :o Imagine that!

And speaking of which, here is a thing going on outside my house. We are having to prepare for a trip to Florida (S1 in Florida... :hot-n-sweat: now there is a picture huh?:|) So I am not sure if we can make the Brewery or not. I will check in with Herself, and maybe we can swing it.
