NORTHAMPTON - The Pleasant Street Theater, Northampton's last remaining venue for first-run movies, will show its last film within the next two months and then close its doors, said its owner yesterday.

This is just bad, bad, bad :@ for the Arts in Northampton. We are losing another gem in this great town:'(

Alright Northamptonites, it has been many a day since I have taken a drive to your fine city for a dinner at Spoletto's and conversation with my favorite bartender Sally. Is Diva's still the only game in town or have any new establishments come on the scene? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Regards from NH......NHPB

Northampton, is it time to break out the sweaters? :|
Sweaters and jackets are fun. Indian Summer has been known to kick in around the end of October. NYC moved it's Marathon from the end of Oct. to Nov. because of this. I ran two Marathons in NYC 1985 in the heat of an Indian Summer, and than in 1986 when it was cooler.

On the other end of the spectrum, Annie Woodhull and Gordy Thorne, former co-owners of Thorne's, and founders of the A.P.E. space, bought the Zanna building and are turning the ground floor into a performance space called A.P.E. at The Window. (They've named the building "The Window"). If you walk by the building you'll see they've installed a little mini-window peephole so you can see the construction inside. That in itself is performative because you feel like a peeping jane peering into a window through a tiny hole.
This is a good thing, nice to see both you and Rob at Diva's last night. I am glad your friend enjoyed the Night Ride on the motorcycle

That was ONE great party.(^) Madame V and the Belly dancer were great. I gave the guest of honor another ride the following day, she showed me a picture of her birthday present(g) , a pedal operated plus electric powered bike which she has since driven to and back from Deerfield on . She told me she pedaled most of the way but engaged the electric motor up the hills FANTASTIC.

C, you're very welcome. I like your screen name. You should post a couple photos and find some threads in the forum that you'd like to write to and you'll start feeling like part of the b/f cyber community. This is a great site. Lots of terrific people on here, many of whom you can meet in real life at the dances and get togethers.

Hi NHPB. I just saw Sally last night at Divas. Spoletto's is yummy. It's really astonishing that Divas is it. I wish there were just a nice bar or even a little bit of a sleazy bar, like the North Star/Grotto was, that catered to queers. I find this town so complacent.

The next time you plan to come down, you should drop a line on this thread and we can get a group together to have a drink somewhere (we'll make it queer by our presence!).

Hey Miss Robin......thank you for the response. Sally is good people and we have known each other since the late 70's/early 80's. That woman makes the best vodka martini I've ever had.
Yep, I also miss the North Star. It was much more cozy and "Cheers" like. The food wasn't bad either. You would think that after the Enquirer newspaper named Northampton the "Lesbian Capitol of the World" that there would be a few more establishments to choose from!?
Thank you for the offer of organizing a meet, I will probably take you up on it soon.

I need a new little dresser, one that does not have to be refinished. No matter how neatly I fold them, my sweaters refuse to be fettered by the mundane limitations of my dresser drawers.

Did you hear Tret Fure perform last night? I was at work until 5:45, crazy since I got there at 7 am, and I was forced to fall asleep in front of the television.

Miss Robin.......It's a store of vices (beer, wine, smokes, lottery tickets), snacks, candy
(think Mallo cups, Sky Bars, Squirrel Nuts, candy cigarettes), some grocery store items and MOXIE. A quick stop for some and a gossip center for others. A small used book store is in the works and should be open in a month or two. It's like working three full time jobs but it keeps me out of trouble.

MsMoxie.........Thank you for the welcome. You're right, the store is not located in a rest area. It's across the river from Brattleboro, Vt., in the downtown metropolis of Hinsdale, NH. Hinsdale (mini-sin city) where liquor and smokes are cheap, fireworks are sold and you can gamble at a dog track that also has poker tables and a roulette wheel. Maybe you all should plan an outing to the track one day. NHPB

And isn't this horrible news, re: Pleasant St. Theatre???? :'(
If I had the cash (or the will to go into debt) I'd buy it and make it super-shi-shi like this: my favourite cinema in the world (http://www.electriccinema.co.uk/experience.php) <---CLICKCLICK
...there'd be plush leather sofas and chairs and ottomans, tapas & 'tini service (of course)...

Unless you want to pop over later and watch while i spin in circles in my flat trying to sort out my packing ... i'm afraid i won't see you for a bit!

LOL Lady Sparkle! You do have packing issues don't you! (humm ^o) probably shouldn't let that get out..). Sounds like it could all be solved rather nicely with a valet and a sherpa. Simply make a list check it twice pass it along to valet boi with strict instructions of course, and then have a handsome sherpa, sherp your items to the location(s) of your choice. I mean really, why waste all that time when you could be having a (d) and chatting with your posse?

Where you might find said staff is a little dicey at the moment... but it is a grand idea no?;)

The weekend was spectacular! The mox and I went to Maine. Played in the Camden/Rockport/Rockland area. We did not see one bear ... well, 8-) except perhaps for the gentlman who owned an absolutely lovely cafe with fabulous coffee and exquisit pastries and other treats!

Beautiful galleries, stunning views, a really great (yet very wet, steep and up, up, up over rocks) hike, a lovely vineyard, oh and of course, a fine oh so chamber of commerce like D1 who showed us some sights and shared some meals with us.

Mox will have to show the pics!(p) Fun was had indeed!:D

LCS -
That is what happens when one makes a list...they just go on and on and on....

LOL Yes indeed! However I was quite impressed with msmoxie’s one :| bag this weekend. It was not only the single bag mind you, but it could be moved quite easily as well!! :o Of course, I won’t say a word about what it was like after the shopping trip!;)

OH OMG Lady CS, speaking of spiders, you should have seen the one that was crawling on me when I was visiting D1 last month in ME. We were at the tippy top of this look out tower when she grabs my arm, cutting off all blood flow. “DON’T MOVE!” she says “you have a spider on you.” So I say oh, ok, well, get it off… but she is freaked out by spiders and just keeps squeezing my now blue arm and saying “oh my god oh my god it’s the biggest thing I have ever seen!” Of course this is all taking place as I am standing right near the stairs on this tower.:| :| (which bothered me far more than the spider!)

Finally, pushing myself (and her) away from the scary steep stairs, I turned and I could see it walking down the back of my leg. It WAS huge. It’s body was about the circumference of a casino poker chip, only much thicker and very very hairy! I brushed it off me a D1 just kept making the scudgie oogie noise…. forgetting to let go of my damn arm! lol … (Make note to yourself, D1 would NOT be on the list of spider rescue agents!)

Now, speaking of D1, she is in fact venturing to our lovely town this coming weekend. I believe that she has a job in the works.

Yes yes, yes, we are throwing the tarps over the roof at the ‘shack’ and nailing the doors shut until next year! Lol. While we do that we might share some port in front of the fireplace. Too bad you will be away and couldn’t come along. Still, SF sounds like great fun!!

See you when you get back then? … When do you return anyway?

I only meant sleazy in the best of ways. :) I was thinking "dive," and "sleazy" popped up. I am a fan of dives. I don't understand why there isn't such an establishment for dykes here. Maybe they'd have to put one of those rooms full of brightly colored balls and gym equipment and a babysitter in the back room for it to work.

Toni Kushner was great. What a mensch. It was nice seeing you there and I think it's totally wrong that you didn't go to dinner with them.

MsMoxie, my kids have probably seen the floor close up of some really seedy ("sleazy," appropriately used) NYC bathrooms. Sometimes you just have to let the baby crawl around while you pee and then you scoop them up and wipe their hands. It's when they stop crawling and sit that you have to worry because that's when they stick something in their mouth. Babies are just small hairless apes, afterall.

I read a T.C. Boyle story this morning in this week's NYer set in Central CA about a boy who feels no pain and let's scorpions crawl all over him and sting him. SHUDDER.

Whole Foods has a bin of self-serve frozen shrimp. I don't get them from there but why is it a bad thing?

The idea of people breathing on raw shrimp that I could potentially take home? Ew.

The idea of the container "accidentally" being left open? Ew.

The idea of people touching raw shrimp and then walking around the store, touching things? Ewwwwww.

Getting shrimp from the nice person who keeps them on ice in a glass container that's only opened when necessary while gloves are worn and thrown away shortly after? A wee bit less of a health risk.

I need a new little dresser, one that does not have to be refinished. No matter how neatly I fold them, my sweaters refuse to be fettered by the mundane limitations of my dresser drawers.

Did you hear Tret Fure perform last night? I was at work until 5:45, crazy since I got there at 7 am, and I was forced to fall asleep in front of the television.
no I did not(h)

The idea of people breathing on raw shrimp that I could potentially take home? Ew.

The idea of the container "accidentally" being left open? Ew.

The idea of people touching raw shrimp and then walking around the store, touching things? Ewwwwww.

Getting shrimp from the nice person who keeps them on ice in a glass container that's only opened when necessary while gloves are worn and thrown away shortly after? A wee bit less of a health risk.

Lol! May I NOT suggest a trip to NYC's Chinatown. ;) I'm a NYer. I guess I'm desensitized to stuff in barrels and fish thown on ice with zillions of people walking by and truck fumes and dirt in general. I've eaten raw herring off streets carts in Belgium, tiny grilled fish from stands in Spain, ceviche in Mexico, and other stuff that is touched by people and weather and random bits of dirt, which is how most of the people in the world eat.

Hmm...it's bugged me that Dr Spock represents fat women in art. I think those photos (or were they paintings? I don't remember) were kind of sensationalist. And why Leslea Newman? She's not a fat woman and neither is her partner.

Miss--OMG. YOu have me LOLing and recoiling in horror simultaneously.
(insert pause here--so you can picture the gesticulations)

i know, i know, my freakingoutness is all about coming from a culture of privilege and purell, and my admitted personal neuroses, which i enjoy poking fun at. which is probably a neuroses in and of itself. (it's amazing that i really am *not* OCD diagnostically) i know that the rest of the world is not so obsessed with sanitation and food processing as we are in the US, (or me personally) but i just can't get over the eeeeewwwwwww factor....same with the baby. that kid was in the just crawling can sit up and put everything in in my mouth stage--which is why i was so eeeeewwwwey...i get moms putting kids down--i don't mean to imply that mom was negligent--just um, why not at least put the tot in a carrier--why directly on the floor??? bleah.

maybe i need to expand my horizons, at least to chinatown!:P

but then the therapy bills will really suck.:|

No one says you HAVE to buy the shrimp in the barrel. Anyways, isn't that what cooking is for? To kill off all the germs people have breathed onto your food?

msmoxie

oh sure. go ahead and be all commonsensical.;) (f)

cooking can do some of that, but it can also kill whatever lurks in the food to begin with before potential human contamination occurs/occurred, stuff that can be harmful (toxins, parasites, etc)

of course, these days---what the hell food product is left that's not touched and (over) processed by humans (and corporations)?!
not much.....except perhaps some certain rice on a certain reservation, and even then, it's all relative.

off to live in a bubble. i mean, chinatown.

I still don't trust it. With all of the crap that is being passed around, especially in a grocery store where EVERYBODY goes. I dont like those bulk containers that are as easy for things to get into as they are for the food to get out. This shrimp container was just a big chest at the end of a row and anybody over 3 ft tall could reach their grimey mits in if they wanted too.

I'm more bothered by the idea of people's hands going into the shrimp barrel, going out of the shrimp barrel, and touching things that won't necessarily be cleaned.

No kiddin'. it's all gross, from every direction!
i wash *everything* when i get home from food shopping, and i am meticulous in the kitchen. ok. fine. make me say it. i am meticulous about lots of things.

but, as :s as i am when i think about such things, i do recognize that if this is what my brain perseverates on, it aint all *that* bad and i've got it pretty good...enough food, shelter, friends, love, job, money....life is good...still....but gross is gross, and sick people are sick (as in ill--not as in disgusting) and well, then my job gets really super busy, and all because of basic hygeine issues that are (mostly) entirely preventable in a developed country such as ours.

i think it's funny how some of us get +o( and 8o| 8o| about things that others of us don't even notice. thank god for that! and thank god for soap, water, and purell. (or rather, kimberly clark or somesuch other corporation that's likely owned by cocacola or halliburton.)

(hey, what's that on the floor? my hand? oh dear, i finally washed the damn thing off.)

You guys are so funny. Squeamishness is as individual as ... uh ... IDing. ;)

MsMoxie, I could not do the good work that you do in a million years because the flotsom and jetsam coming out of humans I'm not deeply connected to grosses me out.

(This reminds me that yesterday Theo and I took the train from New Haven to NYC and on the way back at rush hour we sat across from the most strangely disturbed never-still man with rashes and strange pills and a box of frozen peas and a word search book, who was itching and sweating and his fingers kept bleeding. I spent the 1 1/2 hrs like this ---> :|. Theo studied him for character analysis.)

Okay, forget the parenthetical comments. Can we tawk? I am so not a NYC gal anymore:

1. On the train down, a man sat directly across from me in a train that had a lot of free seats and asked me to put my foot on his lap. I didn't kill him.

2. Then, on the subway downtown, a big man came on and grunted that he wanted to get past me and almost shoved me down.

3. We exited the subway and a guy running for the train slammed into my purse and hurled me back 10 feet.

4. I got my heel caught in that gummy stuff between the cement sidewalk squares and caused a human pileup behind me.

5. I got my heel caught in a rubber circular doormat at the entrance of a coffee place (pile-up again).

6. I didn't check the return train schedule and Theo and I had to jump on the train with only minutes to spare without eating. We were famished.

7. I didn't buy everything I tried on.

This summer at Michigan when my chronic backpain had manifested itself in my hips and ankles for the first time and I had been in pain for days; I was on the telephone making a number of calls and GOD-DES came up and I took a break while she used the phone. I had the pleasure of hearing GOD-DES refer to me as "the nice lady who let her use the phone" Nothing like feeling old when you are in chronic pain and the young lesbian refers to you as "the nice lady." LOL. Luckily, I got adjusted by a chiropractor and emily from NYC and the Fabu list gave me a great massage that alleviated the joint pain. Nothing could be done about my being old enough to be refered to as "the nice lady."N.

THIS (http://www.crownepointe.com/) <--clickclick is my recommendation for best place to stay in Ptown in the off-season (i can't even begin to afford it in the high season, but tis a fabulous luxury to have a room with a fireplace and whirlpool bath in the chilly cape-winter-air.)

I clicked on THIS and i looked at tha amazing place to stay..That is afforable for me in the off season..If i pay those prices during the season i better be on my honeymoon with the prettyest wife on earth till death..I would still concider it..what i will probly do is get there and look around for a place..Gonna wing it without reservations..Still need to know my options before i get there..

It doesnt matter how you say it i am still "yucking" over that baby on the floor and the open shrimp..sooo i was wondering what shrimp goes for in an open barrel with a scoop..

The sky was just gorgeous, all gray and blustery and I do believe that this weekend was peak, a little late. Later on, I had a scrumptious dinner at P and E's and a lovely stroll around town.

PS I was just informed that there was a grand slam, which is a good thing.

Hey there Noho people,

Frenchie (from the fabu east list) and I are having a butch-femme event in Wallingford, Connecticut on Saturday, Nov. 10th and we would love you all to attend.

Saturday, November 10th at 2pm
at Gouveia Vineyards (http://www.gouveiavineyards.com/about_our_vineyard.php) in Wallingford, CT

we thought it would be nice to have relaxing afternoon in this beautiful winery. It's a great place to hang out with friends, and is fun whether you drink wine or not. They don't sell food there, but do allow visitors to bring picnic baskets and any type of food they want. We can also bring cards and board games if anyone is interested.

***single femmes are encouraged to attend***

also, it's fine to bring friends, but this really isn't the place for children

please let us know if you are interested and we can help to arrange transportation. For those of you from out of town, or without cars, we can plan it out and pick you up from the train station in New Haven. MetroNorth from Grand Central Terminal to New Haven, CT is less than $30 round trip and takes about 90 min.

that vineyard trip sounds fun. too bad i can't make it. S1 and D1 and i went to a vineyard in Maine a few weeks back and it was lovely, tucked back on this country road and on a hillside, the leaves were brilliant. they had a big luncheon with a huge BBQ and live music and a grape stomping event-- and yes of course *those stomped grapes were not used in the making of the wine*

i could sleep that night after all. :o

the place was gorgeous, but the wine was not so good.

sakonnet vineyards in tiverton RI is a great one to go to, their wine is foot-free and quite divine. and the port is heavenly. and they have this *fabulous* stone hearth fireplace.

hoping everyone is well.

(f) mox

it's too bad you can't make it. We're going to try to organize events on a more regular basis so I hope you can attend one in the future.

You know, we germ phobic nurses have to stick together! I remember the first time they demonstrated sterile technique in my nursing school. My reaction was, uh huh, I already do things that way!

If I were a little girl, I would be very tempted to roll around in the leaves.

just a re-post to let any newcomers know about this event. Right now there are about 10 people going.
-----------------------------
Frenchie (from the fabu east list) and I are having a butch-femme event in Wallingford, Connecticut on Saturday, Nov. 10th and we would love you all to attend.

Saturday, November 10th at 2pm
at Gouveia Vineyards (http://www.gouveiavineyards.com/about_our_vineyard.php) in Wallingford, CT

we thought it would be nice to have a relaxing afternoon in this beautiful winery. It's a great place to hang out with friends, and is fun whether you drink wine or not. They don't sell food there, but do allow visitors to bring picnic baskets and any type of food they want. We can also bring cards and board games if anyone is interested.

***single femmes are especially encouraged to attend***

also, it's fine to bring friends, but this really isn't the place for children

please let us know if you are interested and we can help to arrange transportation. For those of you from out of town, or without cars, we can plan it out and pick you up from the train station in New Haven. MetroNorth from Grand Central Terminal to New Haven, CT is less than $30 round trip and takes about 90 min.

'ello 'ello 'ello everyone * i'm feeling a bit pants with change of season malaise & stresssssssed-out with work * hope you're all happy & healthy! xo

Outlaw Daddy ~ thanks for the links! Williams College Museum of Arts, Williamstown Theatre Festival (summer) and Mass MoCA are all highlights for me!!! We are in an extremely culturally rich area.

There is also this:
www.edithwharton.org (http://www.edithwharton.org)
(i think it closes for the winter though, soon)
and of course, stockbridge and great barrington are chock-a-block full of fantastic antique shops and retail and restaurants...

unndunn & Frenchie ~ have a fab winery event, I'd love to come and see you all, alas I have all sorts of crazy travel plans before and after and i'm forcing myself to stay put on those odd-weekends that aren't already jam-packed. As soon as I get a little housecleaning assistance (or win the lottery and dispense with this silly work stuff) I can think about having a social life again...! Anyway, Have a Brilliant Time!

FoxxieMsMoxie ~ flu shot week! I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get in to the open clinic on Thursday due to travel - am I able to schedule something with your office if I can't make the clinic??? I was the hugest-flu-shot-skeptic last year, but I must admit, it made a world of difference.
ps. (t) me about plans for this weekend coming! x

ChancieFancyPants ~ we missed out tenatively scheduled, but not confirmed brunch plans this weekend past :(. My sis was visiting and I was sooooo tired, I slept until after 10am both days this weekend!!! huzzah.
I've been meaning to ask you has our mutual friend had her babe yet?????

Oh Lady Sparkle, I know this, and the comming season are not at the top of your list. But just think, while you may lose the ability to lounge about the beach, you do gain the ability to sit in front of a roaring firplace with hot chocolate or a nice port....and ...and the colors!:o That natural bit of artwork has to do something for you! ...:-*just trying to see the silver lining for you[/(f) (c) ...(d)... hope the stress goes away and change of season goes down a little easier.

Events:

Well damn. I’m out for all of them this time around.

Nov 10th - Cant make the winery outing, though it sounds quite nice. Hope everyone has a grand time!

As for Leonard, I think I liked him better as Mr. Spock than Mr. Photographer. In addition, color me boorish, (as D1 certainly would in this instance) but I am not a fan of black and white photography. I know, I know, shocking … but entirely true. For those who are attending the event, enjoy.

Germs:
I have to say, I do appreciate a germ conscious approach. I don’t think you are “phobic” about it mox (the fox;)) just pleasantly aware and careful.

I worked with a woman at Smith who was constantly wiping all the phones down with alcohol, wore latex gloves to re-shelve books, and wouldn’t use the pens at the front desk. If a co-worked sneezed, she would often complain that they came in to work sick, were trying to make her sick and then she would frequently take the rest of the day off so she wouldn’t have to be around the germ infested. (No, I am not exaggerating in the least!) See, now THAT is phobic. Either that or an awfully good strategy for getting time off.

You don't have to sell me on the Autumn, I do think its absolutely beautiful!
I love the colours and the leaves blowing around in blustery whirlwinds.

I don't even mind the switch to coats, pashminas and cashmere....

I had some fear that it would turn into a drunken bacchanalia, or some hope, perhaps. I bet you looked dashing. I went out to dinner and then to the haunted trail that the eleventh graders put on as a fundraiser. All hell broke lose when they knew I was coming. I screamed and screamed, and the kids that scared me in the beginning ran out into the woods and jumped out at me later on. Someone even grabbed my ankle. It was deliciously terrifying.

That'll show me, the next time I feel woefully alone, I will remember that I missed a party with Indiana Jones and brunch with a nice girl. Not unlike my mother who reported on a visit she made to friends of my sister's to where? Yes, you are right. hello weather lovers.
i love the chill in the air.

lady c, i too, desire a fire all my own. with a snifter of something nice and special. and the cozy sweaters and scarves.
*sigh*

about the flu clinic--call and see. i've got no good answer for you, nor special abilities to pinch a dose.

to anyone who is thinking about shot _vs_inhaled flustuff--as 1,S1, likes to say, i snorted germs this year and opted for the flumist over the flu shot. no special reason--just for kicks. but it's a wee bit liklier to cause the snorter to feel icky since the bugs are alive rather than dead. dunno if it's a coinkydink or not, having been in the line of fire of sick folks with *horrible* cootie etiquette (PLEASE. PEOPLE. cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. FOR. GOODNESS. SAKE.) for several days prior to the snorting-- but i got *pants* kinda sick for 3 days.
(but i got a great get well card and soup and saltines delivered. :))

love me, love my TMI. or not.

anyhoo--snort it, shoot it, just get it.

love,
your friendly and occasionally bossy and quickly recovering thread nurse. (f)

good luck with the nohousekeep thing.
sometimes lounging is so much more fulfilling.
other times cleaning is. but i get it.
i love tidy and clean when i return from travelling.
betcha *former downstairs neighbor* could hook you up.

so whoville, the motto for today is this:
contain your cooties.
and perhaps, shoot, rather than snort.
(but only about 5% of folks who snort get sick)
(and the shot will. not. make.you.sick. it's dead. dead, i tell you.)

Here's the MySpace site for more info (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=272698454). They are also looking for performers and one of the organizers mentioned older butches and femmes, specifically. and i was drinking the wine, not cooking with it. i was making some kind of chicken/eggplant/pinenut/goat cheese yumminess. not quite as good as the other day's chicken/balsamic reduction/raspberry/mustrad/goat cheese conconction. i love to cook, but make shit up. no recipes, and no beef stew. i'm off beef...the taste, and looking toward being more ethical in my dietary habits.
of course, that means, i might have go back to nail biting.
at least i know where they come from, where they've been, what's on them, and (ahem) how often they are sanitized.

they must have some kind of nutritional value.
right?

happy day to everyone!

Good Evening, Northampton!

While it was lovely to leave for work in the light, it was tragic to return home in the dark.

Does anyone else feel that way?

Was there a tornado in Franklin County? I ate a very early dinner at the Wagon Wheel in Gill (raise your hand if you've ever been in Gill) and when I was driving home, it was like the Wicked Witch of the East was wending her way home in the southern sky.

My landlord fixed my stove today, and I melted my poor rice cooker on Saturday, so last night I made dinner in my crock pot and just threw the rice noodles the hell in there, praying they would be cooked.

Now I can go back to bemoaning the lack of a beau for whom to prepare dinner rather than the lack of oven and stove top with which to cook dinner.

Please pass the chicken. (au)

I've been to Gill! Me Me! (x)

And I thought the same thing...about the sky looking Tornado-like tonight...
as I was driving home the horizon was all aglow: orange and pink and pretty with the mountains in silhouette...and then as I was driving over the hills towards the river the clouds were all twisty and black and seemed to be nearly touching the ground :|

Hey all,

I recently moved to the area and am looking for a bit of community. Love to get to know people up here and maybe have some fun to boot. I have actually been to Gill as well. Plus I think I got some pictures of the wild weather that was this afternoon. I wish you all well.

Hello Northamptonites and close-by--o-nites.

Did we all vote today ?..... Hummmm? I see that voter turnout was 39 percent, 7,248 out of 18,516 registered voters. Pitiful when you think about it. Everybody always gets all worked up over presidential elections when the local elections actually have a much greater affect on what happens in our lives.

Anyway, Mayor Higgins is still Mayor Higgins.

Not only have I been to Gill, but I've been to the Wagon Wheel as well. Good chow! I thought it was seasonal though?

Both Bruno and I worked well past dark on the NY side of VT and missed all the lovely sunset action. Although we did get a bit of hail (brief, weird rock-salt-like, out of nowhere) in the mid-afternoon near Burlington.

finally back home from a day 0.5 in boston.
how do y'all do it, who go in and out of boston or travel for work, on a regular basis?

yikes, i can't believe i *ever* lived in boston and loved every second of it.
i was totally white knucked driving back til i was safely on the pike.
i musta been 20 then--before i realized i was mortal, and neurotic.
glad i stayed the night in the fancyhotel with the fancypricetag.
even if i *did* hear every surrounding snore, sexual release, and (ahem) flush from the very thin walls.

oh. my.

hope they had a good time.
i got nothing out of it, i must say.

i *hate* work travel. even in a 2 hour radius!!!!

welcome to the area, B4H.

Just a reminder that we are having an event in Wallingford, CT at the Gouveia Vineyards and Winery tomorrow. There's no need to sign up, etc. Just show up and look for the group of butches and femmes. Or, walk around saying "unndunn?...unndunn?...is unndunn in the house?" and I will answer. :)
-------------------------------------------
Saturday, November 10th at 2pm
at Gouveia Vineyards in Wallingford, CT

1339 Whirlwind Hill Rd
Wallingford, CT 06492

we thought it would be nice to have a relaxing afternoon in this beautiful winery. It's a great place to hang out with friends, and is fun whether you drink wine or not. They don't sell food there, but do allow visitors to bring picnic baskets and any type of food they want. They also sell soda and bottled water. We will have some snacks as well as some board games for those interested.

also, it's fine to bring friends, but this really isn't the place for children

please let us know if you are interested and we can help to arrange transportation. For those of you from out of town, or without cars, we can plan it out and pick you up from the train station in New Haven. MetroNorth from Grand Central Terminal to New Haven, CT is less than $30 round trip and takes about 90 min.

[COLOR="DarkGreen"]Hey Outlaw,

You have snow???? I have yet to spot even a flake! :-* I have also been trying to practice keeping my public snow delight at a minimum lest the good Lady Sparkle thump me about the head while mumbling things about coats, and shoes.

8-)Game....game.... OH Is this that game with the helmets and shoulder pads and all the running back and forth?? ;)

:|:| "Public defication" now there are definitely two words that should never, ever be together in a sentence.:|:|

I... I just don't know what to say. Reading the (rather poorly wrtten) article a few things made me chuckle. The first was this sentence:
"Taken together, the defecations, urination and vomit have become a nuisance." Yes, I guess if you want to put it lightly.

I also enjoyed that an article of this topic was written around a big picture of Don Imus...talk about public defication! lol

I was dreading winter too - as I do every year- but now that I threw $500.oo at my winter car, and am ready for driving through snow storms at night, and also realize that December, January, Feb. and March- Only four months of winter this year!- I am almost longing for the magical landscape of winter white. I can hear the snow fall, it is so quiet where I live- nothing but the sound of crystals falling. I love the pronounced sensations of the extreme New England seasons. The smell of woodstoves. The animal tracks patterned in the snow. The blurring of landscape in a sea of white. The moon on the snow. The freshness of cold. The way my neighbors check on each other. Hot chocolate.

it also severely limits my footwear choices.

Well Lady C, I agree that it does severely limit our footwear options, but I'm okay with it because I love the snow that much (go on, gimme the face!). I do my best to find cute snow boots instead of just the utilitarian options...

chewy ~ I like the conte crayon figure drawing a lot! do you exhibit in the area?
do you sell?

Lady C,
Thanks for checking out my blog. I started painting again last March, it's been about 18 years since I've pick up a brush. I'm presently building up a body of work and figuring out my subject matter and working on technique. That drawing is from my college days.

Report from the M.I.A. S1

Hello all you Northamptonites, old guard, visitors and newbies….

Just back from birthday week which culminated in a weekend in NYC. Stayed in Mid town, went the Metropolitan Museum of Art and saw Le nozze di Figaro at the Metropolitan Opera. – Fantastic!!

Had some wonderful meals, walked all over town, spontaneously danced with msmoxie in a big open court yard, (at her request no less!!:o) browsed in the other “museums” on 5 th Ave. you know, … like, the Cartier museum. ;)

(*)(*)(*)(*)The museums, music, theaters, food: OMG great fabulous fun! Have to return for more, and soon!!!:D:D:D

(n)(n)(n)The rabid materialism, gluttony, and greed and the insipid importance placed on luxury and shiny baubles over intellect and humanity I could totally do without. It made me feel 1.+o( and 2. Abundantly happy to have no need for such trappings and genuinely wealthy to be surrounded by great friends and the realities of the natural world.:)

STB – Nice to see you posting!! We should “do lunch.” I have a funny “what happened at the Opera” story for you.

Lady CS – It hasn’t snowed yet… deep breaths…. Spring and summer will arrive in about 4 months.

Happy Monday all

I just lost my post!
take two:

wwwwhhheeeee!
we're back from a whirlwind weekend of citified fun!
OMG it was all totally amazing. the met (both) were so wonderful and we have a romantic date planned for our next visit at the museum for high tea or cocktails at the piano bar on the mezzanine. and I gotta say, Tiffany's is like Big Lots compared to Cartier! we met a lovely woman from SF who joined us at the hotel lounge, saying, "excuse me, but i think we're family..." and we also met a few crazies, a loud and angry homophobic idiot on a cellphone, an over the top flirtatious hat saleswoman (and not with the would-be-buyer, which of course, would me MOI) and a sweet little old lady in a restroom.

or at least, 1,S1 met those last two. ;)
i'll never look at a fedora without giggling again.

hello and welcome to chewy and sweetstonefemme (SSF, see below)
ladycs--hope your trip back towards this coast is going well. a recap is in order on your return!
miss robin--hope the log cabin event was fun!

Lady and Miss--I think the next WF For the Love of Women dance is in Feb again.

to anyone interested--they are calling for volunteers for all kinds of activities.
SSF--if you like, it's a great way to meet people, and be part of a big event that's all for and by lesbians (of all identities--even bones, I am sure! ) I can put you in touch with the coordinators. PM me FMI.

BRR! it's cold. I had to say something about the weather, after all.
perhaps I should turn on my heat.

Miss Robin--I'll be happy to get you the info re: the FTLW--but it seems i deleted the email so it will take a bit of dredging up!

i have a hand blender and i love it. one of the best purchases i ever made. it's my second one, and i far prefer it to my original. it's a farberware and the blending part detaches for easier cleaning and comes with attachments.
accesories are always a good thing for a girl, don't you know. ;)

i never follow recipes, i just make them up, so i dunno if i can ever duplicate this masterpiece. (ahem. if i do say so myself.) various squash, roasted pepitas, onion, garlic, broth, potato, parsnip, carrot, celery, cumin, thyme, nutmeg, cayenne, sherry...simmered and pureed with cream and more broth. and then i made a standard old fashioned chicken soup--no blending. (and the cream is fat free half and half and the butter for sauteeing first actually is smart balance, so it's better for you than it could be!)

when i put my humpty dumpty home back together again i'll have a soup-in--way better than a cookie exchange, right?!

YAY!!! it's the first magical snow of the year!!!!!!! i love it!!!!
but it seems there are lots of accidents on the road already! eeep.
i've not been called to go into work, so that must mean all my colleagues who would normally call out decided to brave it. yay.

which reminds me, mr bone--got any leads on snow tire deals for a subaru?
and did my friends ever call you about their hybrid highlander -vs- lexus SUV?
(pshaw--i want her to get a prius. just sayin', but *he* thinks *she* should get something fancy and big to speak to her professional success. *eyeroll*)
i don't have a fireplace so santa can't bring the tires to me through my chimney, so if you have any tips for me i'd be ever so grateful.
your wing is coming along quite nicely. when do you move in? ;)

happy day everyone!

lady c--no worries. i am sure you have divine snow-worthy boots, shiny and with pretty buckles or somesuch as befits your lasdyship. winter too shall pass, dearie.
eep! our workplace did not close, did it?! if so, i wish i had been called in!

I'm glad you are at least in touch with your feelings about being an un-cute footwear hostage. A lot of times I just opt to not leave the house until the snow thaws. It's not so much the boots, or even the cold, that gets me--it's not wanting to have to shovel out may car. Sometimes I think maybe I really will hibernate all winter to avoid the whole thing. Either that or hire a houseboi to do all my snow shoveling for me.

Went to my scary hometown for Thanksgiving meal, got there and met up with my parents, then drove around for about 1 hour looking for someplace (anyplace) to be open so we could eat. My parents were sure that at least one Asian restaurant would be open, but alas...they were wrong. For future reference, not even a fast food place like the evil M or King Beef are open on Thanksgiving (apparently the winner of "most holiest" of holidays due to the lack of open stores/shops/and food stops.)

So by 3 pm or so I finally got to eat at this little place which was buffet so I had to fight a crowd and control myself - being as hungry as I was all I wanted to do was scream at everyone there. And then getting yelled at in the restroom, then going home and having my parents try to make me cry by stating how incredibly sad and lonely I must be and how much worse it will be for me when I move into a place where I know no one...AHHHH!!! And all the while (b)(d)and no one to (t) (mp) and :'( I'm tired now. I'm going to sleep for today. Night!

P.s. Please let the gay people be out tonight....Anyone doing anything fun in the area tonight, let me know...(e)

Dear fabulous ones,

Take heart. I don’t think it is as bad as you may see it. It is after all, not the boot that makes the femme but the femme that makes the boot. (^o) or is that gives the boot…)

Anyway, in my opinion, it is all about situation and circumstance. To see somebody, any sort of somebody traipsing about the place wearing clothes that are wildly out of place looks ridiculous no matter how fine, fancy, fierce, or fabulous the attire may be. For example, a butch out for a hike in a tux or nice trousers and a sport coat would look like an imbecile who had no clue as to how to dress for the occasion. Likewise a butch walking around snowy streets in lovely shiny black dress shoes looks just as absurd.:s (or for that matter, a butch in hiking boots on the dance floor ….. :o why, given my dandy constitution I believe I would faint dead away…. 8o| after throwing them out of the ballroom of course!)

So, I don’t know ladies, I have seen plenty of femmes sporting footwear that is smart and also entirely appropriate for the weather and the elements. Versatility is just all-around lovely in my book. The appropriate outfit for every occasion, that’s hot! ;)

I know some of you detest the particular occasion in question (... ;) looking over at the good Lady C Sparkle….(d) put your feet up love.) But do know that there are some of us who thoroughly appreciate the reflection of flexibility and suitability in footwear presented by the femmes among us.

Walk on with your bad selves! (f)

Germ sharage? Oh My!!

I feel your pain Lady CS, I have had some silly cold since Wednesday.

I am not sure where I picked up my germs. Could have been some typhoid Mary opera goer in New York, or perhaps from the six year old I taught to thumb wrestle on the train on the way home. Not that I am a fan of thumb wrestling mind you but it did keep him from wandering about the train and other transgressions. But you know how 6 year olds are, they are filled with cooties and delighted to share them ... eeesh! :s

My tiny poceket sized bottle of Purell failed me this time! :'(

Still, having your own personal nurse is pretty handy. She can dispense all sort of drugs AND make chicken soup to boot (oops I said "boot" again...sorry)

Hope the rest of the crowd is healthy and well.

i've only been ickysick for a day, sortakinda sick for a day, then better, then sortakinda for another day over this last week whilst all around me the flu is flying and landing and cavorting and wreaking all kinds of snifflysnotty havoc.

in other news--for anyone interested in learning about local opportunites for self defense classes, feel free to PM me. some of us attended a basic informative session last eve.

and in OTHER other news--my outlets now have covers. :)

hoping we are all well and de-cootiefied.

meh... :s ...is all i have to say.

Oooh and edited to add: thank you very much for your get well wishes Teddy!!!
Steer well clear of the Valley of Cold Plague! And may it not travel down 91S anytime soon!

i'm still battling the sick. it appears to wane and then re-surge, but never quite go away completely. :(
(its been just shy of a week, but it feels an eternity)
i'm still calling it a cold though - because i subjected myself to a flu-shot, not-for-naught. 8o|

thanks for organising the session last night msmoxie!!! ...the discussion about overalls & footware was particularly enlightening :D!

i understand a shopping trip is in the offing, if we can coordinate schedules. YAY!

oh dear lady--indeed. the overalls and footwear discussion was, um, silly and entertaining, and i suppose, a wee bit enlightening, into what i am still not quite sure...the foibles of publishing, perhaps?

your flu shot was NOT for naught! it does take apx 3 weeks to become effective, and it WILL keep you less sick than you might otherwise become. fear not. i have soup on the stove for you, love.

SHOPPING TRIP--YES!!! but um, eek, my schedule, quite nutty, so hopefully we can coordinate.

and i must say, the mission of shopping is quite at odds with my gift giving un-mission this year. that is to say--in honor of friends and family here and passed on, i am planting trees instead of purchasing and giving gifts. (i know, it takes the surprise factor away completely. sorz.) but still. a girl needs SHOES. snow boots, even. and maybe even a new year's outfit, or a bauble or two. plus--it's FUN!!

ANYHOO--interested in avoiding the malls and saving the planet this holiday season?

Clearly I have not been vigorous enough with either my Purell or my soup-eating. My flu has lasted a good week and a half, but seems to finally be abating. Where can I get some of those live bugs to snort? :o

Hello NoHo thread...
Sorry to all who are sick with that nasty bug. I had it last week- still lingering, nice! Adding Emergen-C to the Sorrell and soup ( I get compensated for product placements, btw) seems to help.
Cute Femme Snow Boots, hmmmm.....
Sorel and Khombu have some reasonably cute femme snowboots.
If you are really hard-core, go for Michael Kors Winter Warrior Pump.
(Yes, there IS something wrong with me...!)
Personally, I just thank sweet Jesus that the hideous Uggs trend is over.
(No offense to Australians or people that still like them).
Still waiting for that first white winter blanket. Proof of Global Warming? Look no further!

oh, sweets, i am sorry you are still ickysick. the avg virus does last 2 weeks. if you are superlucky and totallyontopofit, often you can often nip it in 9, that is: 3 days to come on (stay away from other folks and load up on rest and fluids and SOUP and drugs, even--continue til resolved) 3 days of misery (definitely start drugs here) and 3 days of resolution (if you're not still resting and limiting contact with others then you're being foolhardy) of course, i have no stats or references to prove this 9 day thing, just oodles of observation and medical urban legends!

anyhoo--most practices still have flumist (aka live bugs to snort) and flu shots available, so call your doc's office or the local dept of public health for a dose. it's not too late.

be well, dear heart!

xx mox

I love sorrell in soup!
and I have a great pair of sorels.
the trick is keeping the sorels out of the soup.
i put my foot in my mouth enough as it is.

mmmmm, such tender treads, who knew?

isn't khombu, perhaps spelled differently, one of those weird mushroom type beverages with tons of purported health benefits?

how funny that your medicinal-consumable and footwear references are so similar!!

now we need designer emergency boots and we'll be all set, and your commission will be BIG.

@msmoxie ~ no need for a bucket, Lovely, i find your mutual*mush charming! (l)
and i'm sorry i missed your call last night, i would love some of your fabulous soup!

also mm & 1,S1 ~ did i tell you i'm spending xmas in Montreal with mia familia? any tips & suggestions are quite welcome, you've both been there far more recently than i.

**waving helloooooo to Mlles. Holliday & cicibird**

@musicfemme ~ feel better, Sweetheart!

@Blavatsky ~ those boots sure are saucy! but i think they're designed for city folk or as strict pick-up/drop-off boots! i can't see trudging through un-shovelled sidewalks or over Noho's notorious 5' snowbanks in those! (well i can....'cause they're hot & i'm ridiculous, but i can't see them being much more effective than my normal footware)

@ToughAsMarshmellow ~ hello & welcome to the thread!

Which ones? The winter warrior pumps? Yes, they are fab but absurd...plus reportedly painful.
ahhh....Fashion=Pain. But nothing is worth cold frostbitten tootsies!

Just got back from Vespers at Smith. I think it was the sparsest, most pared down Vespers I have seen at Smith. No other schools participated this year and the decor was scant. Anybody else go?

The mox was pretty under the weather but toughed out dinner and Vespers. She just has to stop associating with all of those cootie ridden sick people! :s

Lovely weather out there tonight. I’m so not an ice fan (the slippery stuff or the drug). I would so prefer a lot of snow over a wee bit of ice.

Hope all are well
