i'm about to write an ode to my AC, and blow another (k) to my (l) who made sure it didn't fall out the window and proved to me that i *am not* the most neurotic person in the world after all. heh. heh. it's only fire that scares me, not cold.

Okay NoHoers (?) - is there anything going on this weekend that a butch from the big city might enjoy?
I'm looking to get out of the city this weekend and having just returned from the cape I thought I might look inland. So what's going on out your way?
thanks!

You are quite welcome!
Noho has some amazing restaurants, lots of little artisan-type shops and the Smith Museum of Art - so a day trip to town will keep you busy as well.
I actually rented a kayak (rather than rafting) and did a nine-mile paddle down the Deerfield River with Zoar. It was a fabulous!!!.
The kayaks are sit-on-top, they provide helmets and pfd(s) - and the rapids are only Class I and II - on that stretch of river - it is not horribly difficult or technical and is soooooooooo much fun! I'd definitely recommend that!
Though I've heard their white water rafting trips are fantastic too.
The upper part of the river has Class IV & V rapids - much excitement! :)

I was just telling someone about this site last night! :)
I found the Chesterfield Bend via through here! And I really like the Bend.
The directions tend to be pretty good but if you decide to hunt for the Bend, PM me and I'll tell you what to look for - when turning off of the road. It is kind of hidden.
Also the Potholes (in Shellburne Falls) are listed.
Both favourites of mine.

sheesh. are we all on vacation at once?
we're turning into a ghost town!
hi everyone!
let's see. not that anyone cares, but my whores are moaning (ie i'm a wee bit hormonally influenced) and so this eve I've been sowing my opinionated oats all over the forums. good grief, would my mother be proud, or horrified? i used to be quiet and meek and nice and BORING. hahaha. then i became femme,
we all have to bloom sometime.
i've had one day off in the past 13--and even that included a pseudo work meeting. i'm pasty from lack of sun and giddy from too much work and not enough play. i've been passed by for an internal job, which i expected and which i agree with, and think it may well work to my advantage somehow, and at this precise moment, i very much miss my dear (s) , look farward to the bagpipes this weekend, and i'm simply and entirely appalled by the gross banality of human behavior, especially that of college administrators in Michigan, i'm bemoaning and bemused and bewildered by the bad behavior of girls going wild (and the adults who love them, and i'm chock full of haughty opinions, pasta, pinot noir and dark chocolate.
(perhaps not in that order.)
what about the rest of us?

I got back on Sunday from a week in SF -- fabulous. We flew into the storm! It was terrifying! My mother is here from Calif. :| It was Theo's birthday a couple days ago but he was in rehearsal from noon - midnight so we didn't celebrate much. His play is opening tonight. It's one of the New Century Theater series. It looks hilarious.
Theo plays the love interest of an actress who happens to be Rob's ex, and he has to kiss her. LOL. Which is not to mean that Rob dated someone who is now 17, but that the play is a comedy about a teenager with an aging disorder (played by Rob's 50+ ex).
If you're going, let me know and we'll sit together. Here's the info:
Kimberly Akimbo July 19-28 (no show Monday)
By David Lindsay-Abaire
Directed by Ed Golden
Box Office at (413) 585-3220 weeknights at 7:30; Fri & Sat at 8pm; Sun 2pm.Tickets are $28; $14 student rush at the door.
It's at Smith College (I forgot the name of the theater but it's in the theater building on Greene St.)
Set in the wilds of suburban New Jersey, KIMBERLY AKIMBO is a hilarious and unique comedy, cut from the same cloth as the Academy Award winning film "Little Miss Sunshine". Sixteen year-old Kimberly has progeria, a rare condition causing her body to age more rapidly than it should. When Kimberly and her family flee Secaucus under dubious circumstances, she is forced to reevaluate her short life while contending with a hypochondriac mother, a rarely sober father, a scam-artist aunt, and the possibility of first love. The New York Times called this off-Broadway hit "The comedy of the Year. A haunting and hilarious new play. KIMBERLY AKIMBO is at once a shrewd satire, a black comedy, and a heartbreaking study of how time wounds everyone." The Los Angeles Times dubbed the play "A breezy, foulmouthed, fleet-footed, warmhearted comedy. There have been many dark comedies about dysfunctional families, but this is one of the funniest."
DQ, hi! Thank you for the birthday rep. :)
Welcome Thea. I hope to see you around. Pyrate, you and your wife too.

Greetings and happy Monday!
The Scottish festival at Look Park on Saturday was great! (big help in planning my outfit for Celtic Pride float next May;) )
Anybody looking to purchase a condo in Northampton, I do know of a nice one for sale.
Hope all are well and that concerts, and traveling and the like proved fun.
Oh by the way speaking of fun and traveling…. Good Lady C Sparkle, we should be mindful of looking at the season at the Met soon so that we can be ready to pounce on the Operas we would like to see. -- Butch scout motto: Be Prepared.

Did someone say opera? It may not be the Met, but the Berkshire Opera is doing La Boheme next month. I think I have an extra free ticket, if anyone is interested. :)

Opera yes, I'm always up for it.
1,S1 ~ lets look at our collective schedules and see if we can make something work.
My biz travel diary is already jam-fucking-packed, but with any luck I can coordinate a NYC biz trip with an opera outting.
Holliday ~ when were you thinking of going? I'm booking 2weeks hols off in August, so if I'm in the area I'd love to go.
And speaking of Opera!
And more precisely speaking of La Boheme (one of my faves!)....
I need a PR GURU and fast.
We (UMass/FAC) has been chosen to host a live-simulcast of La Boheme, performed at the Kennedy Center by the Washington National Opera (and I understand there is an as yet, unannounced *star* singing for this particular performance).
Anyway, I need someone who can get 1500 bums in 1500 seats - for this free event happening at the end of September.
The timeline poses considerable challenges and we need to be successful.
If anyone knows anyone who is a PR genius and is ready, willing & able to successfully take on such a challenge - send me a PM.

Do most people have one bum or two?
That is a purely subjective question MsChanciePantsie....I'm of a clan of women sporting the "Swann Beeeehind" (as they call it) - we could be considered to be of a two-bum-people.......
Frankly, I'm an equal opportunity bum-counter.
1 bum, 2 bums - more........ no matter to me - in fact it'd be quite a bit more convenient if we only had to herd 750 2-bummed people as opposed to 1500 1-bummed people.
8-) hmmmmmmmm contemplating the marketing implications of that plan...............

Thank you, Jester Butch!
I may, indeed, compile a 'street team' as the time approaches!
I think print design/production will be taken care of and certainly we can manage the print reproduction in house -
It is more a case of having someone on board to take the project in hand and coordinate the various offices/resources and media outlets necessary to ensure we fill the house. (big task! big big).
Press Release writing skills are essential. As are top-notch organisational skills.
Thank you again, and break-a-requisite-leg at your gig this week!!!!

i'd advise anyone who may be interested in doing the job to develop a quote or an hourly charable rate as a basis for beginning discussion.

(who knew I would know?)
(i am not actually sure i know, but i'll venture)
the unit of measurement is CAPACITY, and in this specific instance, we want to meet capacity by utilizing BUMS, such that BUMS are our MEDIUM, even if said bums might be extra-plus-or-double-sized.
VELOCITY is the speed by/with which we will meet capacity by placing bums in said seats.
the number of bums are dispproportionately relative to capacity, so that the more bums, the less remaining capacity to fill.
(suddenly singing I LOVE BIG BUTTS AND I WILL NOT LIE)

I know you guys might have talked about this earlier, but I just saw the film La Vie En Rose and it was phenomenal. The actress was amazing and every moment of the film I was engaged. Edith Piaf's life was difficult and she made choices that had horrendous consequences, but i like movies that are challenging emotionally. I never cried during the film, but as the credits were rolling I had a tiny cry... I am not sure but I think it was because I was so moved that I actually had just watched a well made film. The filmmaker and the lead actress nailed it throughout the entire film. It was amazing and excellent.

Irving? A Jewish town? Who knew. Thank you, LadyC.
Has anyone been to Jacob's Pillow? (I'm sure 1,S1 has.) Any hints on how to get there and what to bring? I'm going to a Friday matinee (2pm) in a couple weeks to see Mark Morris. Do most people bring a picnic? Are the cafes worth checking out? Is there anything to do in the area after the performance? Feel free to send me a PM if this seems like too specific of a thread topic.

OY. Irving, a Jewish town. LOL. I wonder what it's history is, beyond the paper mill?
I've always wanted to go to Jacob's Pillow. Enjoy! There is a place out that way whose name is escaping me--sleepaway lodge--i think???? it's GREAT, kinda rundown and campy and groovy and GREAT food and live music, a great porch and grounds.
camping was great fun, except we were *surrounded* by LOUDCHILDRENANDTHEIR LOUDPARENTS. (the family that never heard of *SSSHH*) there was a slew of kids, but kyle and jennifer got the most attention, we heard their names constantly! the quiet was enormous and serene and wonderful when they finally left. so was the moon that our tent door faced, directly over the lake. *sigh*. we got lucky with the rain--just the first night after we went to sleep, and yes, i was nervous we'd be soggy for all 4 days.

This is my first time at Jacob's Pillow. Boots is visiting me from Seattle this week and I want to do things that are exclusive to New England, and we both like dance. (Lucidflame, thanks for the comment about Mark Morris. I've wanted to see him for years for the reasons you said.) MsMoxie, I tried to google what you're referring to and couldn't find it. I'll look when I'm there.
It sounds like camping was a mixed bag. As a child-owner, I'm sorry you endured those types for whom children bring out their inner need to rule the immediate universe and drag everyone into their tedious quotidian dramas that wouldn't exist if they didn't create them in order to drag everyone into their tedious quotidian dramas.
Hairspray was great! How come you sound lukewarm, Holliday? I thought it was campy -- though John Travolta is not Divine -- and I think it's challenging to be campy and commercial.

You should do a John Waters night. My favorite Waters film is Polyester. I even have my Odorama scratch and sniff card that goes along with the movie (autographed, of course, by Mr. Waters himself). I haven't seen the new one, but the original Hairspray was a great movie.

hey everyone--just checking in to say HELLO
and to start turning the wheels for our collective TAG SALE.
I suggest Sunday 8-26 or Sat 9-1 (Labor day weekend)
The students will be flocking back this way starting, oh, any moment now--so the selling should be good starting the last half of Aug through the end of Sept.
We have a great potential location, but need to confirm that we can in fact still get it and get it on either of those days.
We need an alternate location--CAN ANYONE HOST A TAG SALE AT THEIR HOME OR OTHER LOCATION? I live in a condo so I can't host. (sad but true)
so...who wants to join us? we'll rent a uhaul (hahaha) to schlep the larger goods--like my yellow loveseat that is STILL available!
PLEASE--SOMEONE, BUY IT! IT'S WONDERFULLY COMFY IT JUST DOES NOT MATCH MY NEW COLOR SCHEME AND PLANS FOR THE ROOM!

Hey, thanks for the reminder! I don't live in a very good location for a tag sale, otherwise I'd offer. I also work till 9am Saturdays and Sundays, so I won't be able to participate until later on. But...I'll help set up and organization the day before. :)
Regarding the dates--I think move-in weekend (for UMass) is the 1st and 2nd, as classes start the 4th. Doesn't traffic get really backed up at that time, or is that only by the Calvin Coolidge brige exit? Then again, maybe we could market it as a B-F tag sale and get all the parents & students to come gawk (and BUY). :o

If you live (or have lived) in the state of Massachusetts, you can help get this bill passed! Thanks to Susan Stinson--via Livejournal--for this info. I plan on attending the hearing, so if you want to come, let's carpool!
Change the World in Two Minutes
“Passing the San Francisco height/weight legislation rocked! It was the most important project I have ever been involved with. We worked together and made history! San Francisco became the third city in the country where weight discrimination is illegal meaning people of all sizes have the same rights to get a job, go to the theater in a seat that fits and receive discrimination-free medical care.”
-Sondra Solovay
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You have an amazing chance to make legislative change right now, not just for one city, but for the entire state of Massachusetts . Not only can you help guarantee equality for people of all sizes in Massachusetts , it is likely that others sates could follow that lead. Please make the time to advance equality for people of all sizes. It is unlikely that you will ever again have the chance to have such a big impact with such a small amount of work.
A hearing will be held in September to see if Massachusetts should outlaw height and weight discrimination. There is already legislative support for this, which normally is that hardest part. The date is not yet set for the hearing.
Here’s what needs to happen in the next few weeks:
(1) Testify for 2 minutes.
Share your story of discrimination at the hearing. We need Massachusetts residents (whether current or former) to tell compelling stories of discrimination or prejudice to help people understand why there needs to be a law. We are coordinating the testimony. Please consider whether you have any story related to the following topics:
Employment discrimination
Housing discrimination (rental, for example)
Prejudice in healthcare
Discrimination by police
Prejudice faced in any level of school (by teachers, students, seating problems, etc.)
Problems in any commercial setting (rude store clerk, for example)
Inaccessibility in public accommodations
Combination of size and race discrimination
Combination of size and sex discrimination
A religious commitment to equality for all people
Even if you think your story is not worth telling, contact us.
(2) Pledge to get people to attend the hearing.
The hearing room should be packed with people of all sizes who care about the passage of this law. This is a historic moment that you don’t want to miss.
(3) Provide expert testimony at the hearing.
If you are an expert in fat studies, the intersection between size discrimination and race or sex discrimination, or Health at Every Size, you are needed. Bonus points if you are a Massachusetts resident, have been in the past or have some tie to the state.
(4) Find others to testify.
Reach out to other people who face discrimination because of their height or weight and put them in contact with us.
(5) Write letters to the paper.
Be prepared to respond to negative reports in the paper with letters to the editor or other commentary. Take the time to respond if you see a negative article. Typically your letter to the editor can be very short. Just explain why the law is needed and ask for support.
How to get involved:
If you can help in any way, whether by testifying or by organizing people to attend the hearing, please contact Beth at bkenny_ma@yahoo.com.
And, here's a link to a couple of articles from Radiance magazine about what Sondra and others did to get the San Francisco law passed, and moving hearing testimony from a brave, tough and articulate sixteen year-old who helped change that part of the world.

Hi Lynn (and Candace :) ),
Last week Boots and I were in Lee at Jacob's Pillow. I hear the restaurant there is very good and the grounds and dance archives were lovely. I also think the restaurant at Tanglewood is supposed to be good, and they often have outdoor free performances. Maybe you can check the web sites. It is a gorgeous day isn't it! Last night there was lots of lightning and thunder here and I wasn't scared like I usually am. In fact I loved it. Maybe I'm growing up. ;)

Hi Miss Robin!
We had the thunder and lightening, too. I'm glad you weren't scared--it seems that the more you confront in life, inside yourself, the more you can confront, outside. Like an expanding circle. Does that make sense? I'm tired! (f)
Thanks for the suggestions. I'd love to get to Tanglewood. Once upon a time, we used to take a good book and a picnic lunch to the rehearsal, and sit out on the lawn. Don't know if they do that any more. Today, we drove to Stockbridge. There was a juried craft show at the Berkshire Botanical Gardens, and then we went to the Norman Rockwell Museum. After poking around Main St. for a little while, we headed home. What a great day!
Take care,
Lynn

Fem-me, sounds like you all had a great time :)
I have had the privilege of attending three Tanglewood Concerts this summer. They do indeed still have open rehearsals at $17. a ticket. I hope to get there one more time before the season ends. The sound from the shed is astoundingly beautiful. I just wanted take up residency there.(8) (y)
I do not recall a restaurant there (although there might be one) but there was a cafe where one could purchase different kinds of grilled sandwiches. There was also a beverage stand where one can buy wine, beer, soda etc... and I recall ice cream carts.
If you or anyone attends a concert there after dark, bring bug spray but do not spray yourself on the lawn. There are signs posted not to do that for it ruins the lawn.

Nothing like a little time on the beach with friends to relieve the stress of life! Back from our little vacation and trying to re-enter the world of work.
Good Lady Sparkle, did you have a fabulous time away? Sorry we didn’t get to catch up more than we did. Seems one thing or another always got in the way. 8-)
Note to self: Never give car key and wallet to femme friend with purse to hold until after the dance. You may risk getting not your car key back, effectively stranding you at the vacation condo whilst others are happily romping about on the beach …. Of course wondering where you might be but then doing the wink-wink-nudge thing to each other and saying … ;) hummm well perhaps we should give them a little privacy…. Meanwhile you are trapped at the condo wondering why no one has called to find out where you are and rescue you…. :|
Anyway hope fun was had for both the P-Town crowd and the folks that stayed in the happy valley.

Gooooood Morning One,S-One
Twas fabulous to see you all in wee-town!
*I* had a great time dancin' (x) & fire-building (^) & beach romping (ip) & not swimming with the seals ---> :| <---(LCS not a fan of wildlife in my personal space)
the chill*spill*child and I had an hour or so of amazing body surfing waves one afternoon! :D
I wish I was still on the beach!!! :'(
It amazes me though, that the water seemed warmer the night of the bonfire, (when the winds were whipping gale force) than it had seemed the rest of the days we were there. Is that geologically possible?
DieselFemmeDiva and I running into the pitch black water, having the waves crash over our heads and the sand slip from beneath our feet ~~ whilst we screamed & grabbed one another (& maniacally giggled) out of sheer terror and absolute delight - ....was most brilliant! :D
As were the plethora of shooting stars that night (*) (*) (*) (*) (*)
On Saturday, I was soooooooooo exhausted from the week and my supa*late night drive home that I spent the better part of the day falling asleep where ever I was.... on the deck, in the supermarket, and later in front of BBC channel - i think i slept 11hours that day & sadly, completely through Dapper1's afternoon picnic :$
for shame! for shame!
But in brighter news, I'm still off from work! :PWahey!!!

Hello MiLady--
Indeed! It was a wonderful time! My favorite part was listening to you and the DFD squealing and giggling with delight in the waves that night with all the shooting stars!
I am weirdly existential after this week at the beach...not ready to be back, at all, at all. ALAS. I had my first day of real life and work today. We all survived.
Happy reentry.

I had a great experience at Off the Map Tattoo, which is only about 10 minutes away from Northampton. The nice thing about them is that they have pretty frequent guest artists. I have no idea about shops in the Boston area. 8-)

Did anyone go to the Transperformance last night? It was packed with all of Northampton on picnic blankets. Aloha Steamtrain were great as the Moody Blues. What was it?
Where was it?
Lord Russ (charismatic leader of Aloha Steamtrain) was, once upon a decade ago, the roomate of my former-partner, V.
V. lived in an apartment with him and another couple....and it was a crazeeeeeeeeeeeee house ....with aluminium foil for wallpaper and pretty straight girls snuck in and out again (by the aforementioned HRH Lord Russ) and absolutely religiously held Simpsons viewing hours from 5-7pm every day!

Hi Lady C, Ms Moxie!
I'm here! What a glorious day!
I took the poodles for a walk around Smith. I have a soft spot for the adorable anxious girls leaving home to go to college. I didn't do that when I was their age and every year I get a little vicarious thrill about what it must be like to be in a teeny dorm with a girl you can't stand in a town where you know no one, far from family and pets, where you're expected to crank out superior masterpieces because you're at a Seven Sisters school while wishing you could get bombed and make out with the girl across the hall with the fauxhawk and a new-found swagger.
jus' sayin' ;)
Does anyone want to go salsa dancing this Thurs at the UMass Fine Arts Center? There's a Latino band and it's open to the public and there are lessons at 7pm and the dance is at 8pm.
Last Tuesday night I went to the open salsa dancing night at the Iron Horse and ohmygod, everyone was SO GOOD. I wouldn't dare try dancing among them. I need lessons first. (Plus all the women, even the dykes, danced with the men. How do you dancers get around the sweaty het male factor if you don't go with 1,S1?)

That's because I spent WAY too long in Lady Chatterly at the Amherst Cinema where field clothes would have been pajamas. What a tedious film. I walked out at 2 hrs 10 mins. At that point the aristocratic ennui-inducing bland-faced heroine was romping naked through the forest with the brutish well-hung French Brando-alike servant. I heard from the popcorn babe that she got pregnant and didn't get together with the stud. Aristocracy won out.
Anyone got a Gauloises? (and I don't even smoke)
I hope your yard sale was very successful!

casual attire usually suffices.
long pants best (avoid the ticks)

they like photo opps from a FAR distance.

they are much more agreeable to hanging out and being watched through binoculars when they are found.

:|:|:| and i have survived to type about it. :|
i am very saddened to report that this was not due to any grand acts of heroism or in some fantastic bar-room brawl...
but alas, i am simply an Idjit of the highest order, i managed to get myself completely locked out of my family home at 8am... and caught in a thunderstorm with my mothers' manic jack russell, i put the dog in his garden run and...attempted a break-in......
...but.......old Painted Ladies (the house, not me :|) are notoriously vault like,
and when you're locked out, you're locked out!!!
there is no jimmying of locks or scaling of walls....and in thunderstorms when the humidity is high there is no sliding open of unlocked windows..........(so i re-learn)............
but in my i haven't had any coffee yet haze, i thought it reasonable to try to get in through a first floor studio window - so i dragged a garden chair over to the window, and teetered precariously in my manky old flipflops on said chair with apoplectic dog running in circles and yelping a few yards away..... and as i was pushing upwards on the frame of the window..... i slipped.................and voila, through the window...
.....which is really an accomplishment given the glass is old and thick. which, of course, was also my saving grace, because it doesn't shatter the way new thin glass does...
So, my lovelies, i appear to have come away unscathed with but a few cuts and scratches, nothing fabulously scar worthy - which is fine, because i'd have to come up with a really good-story if had fabulous scars....and i just don't have it in me at the moment.............

Lol why, ruggedly good looking casual woodsey attire that coyotes (and apparently some people) will find appealing of course! Or decent hiking shoes and as the mox says, long pants.
Well lets see. I think I went for the oh so fetching hiking boots, camo /cargo pants, blue polo shirt, blue baseball cap (It says Antioch New England Graduate School, you know, so the coyotes know I’m smart and stuff) and dark sun glasses. The green back pack with binoculars, extra cameras, bungie cords, field notebook, and hammer can be casually worn over one shoulder or fully on the back or carried. … it is a versatile ensemble!
When spotted they are observed and their behaviors and activities are recorded.
The likelihood that you will see them? Humm not out of the question but not a common occurrence. Early mornings, just before dusk and dusk are typical times for coyotes to be roaming about. But good Lady CS, if they spot you first which they usually do, they are far more likely to move away from you than towards you they naturally afraid of people. Most in this area are a wee bit pathetic looking.
As with the other animal you encountered, ;) ... do not under any circumstances run away if you spot one. If it is in the distance, pay it no mind. If it is close, be aggressive, yell, clap your hands, stomp your (tastefully clad) foot, shoo it away. No worries Lady CS, Until you start hiking out in yellowstone where there are grizzlies,:| :D I think you are pretty safe from dangerous wildlife encounters,:)
1, S1(h)
PS OMG Lady CS!!!. I just read your last post. Must have come in just before mine. Hope you are ok. See, our daily human lives are more dangerous than crossing paths with a bear or a coyote! Yikes, hope the cuts and scratches heal nicely. Now here (c) (c) and for goodness sake be careful!!!

where's our msmox?

LOL Yes I shall. I actually hate being around anybody when I am under the weather, preferring to whine and carry on about this and that ache, pain, or ickiness in the privacy of my own pathetic company! It is, after all, SO UN-Sophisticated. Can’t be seen all mussed and yucky.
(ap) The trip South is for pleasure. Family and friends sort of trip.... 8-) Though I am now quite inspired to make up some sort sophisticated art thief on the run from the law story… humm that has potential….

My favourite Nurse....*mwah* I'm going to give you a (t) a bit later Sweetie
In the meantime I thought I'd share my misadventures this a.m.
I should like to formally submit my application for the
Baddest-Ass-Femme of the Year award.
(or perhaps *stooopidistassfemmeoftheyear *may be most appropriate)
I have managed this morning, to put both my hands and arms through a window.

I KNOW!!!!
do you know how many times i tried to rouse the sleeping teenager????
i threw things at his window.
i yelled his name - like the crazy pajama-ed screaming banshee i am!
i rang the louder-than-god doorbell a gazillion times over
if the window incident had gone badly, i would have been found a big bloody mess in my manky flip-flops, barely there 'jamas, distraught or worse.... next to the smelly dog.
jeeez. looooooooooou-ise.
and i entertained the thought on that particular window because S. regularly climbs in and out of it - in his teenage sneak-out escapades!!!!
oh goodness yes. certainly yummy.

Hoping you have healed full well from your window incident and are fully decaf'd.
I had an *incident* myself the other day at work with a nice young man from britian. let's just say he laughed *A LOT* at my use of the word "fanny", but I immediately remembered that the word is *different* stateside, and duly apologized...then proceeded to prove i knew my error when his friend suggested he put his paper in his fanny pocket, I said "oh, no, don't think he has one of *those*" hehehee....ok but this was all AFTER i attempted to catch the young lad as he did a nose dive fainting number, caught his head, but went down with him and fell on top of him, with my knee just precious inches from *there* and grazing his punkrocker studded belt and shredding my pants, and my knee, to a bit of a bloody mess...OY.

Ahhh JesterButch ~ you're a (*), thank you for reminding folks and bumping up the event!
It was a very successful event!
I think we clocked over 1100 people - many many families with children, which was the main aim in terms of making opera accessible!
There were a few problems with sound at the beginning, but otherwise it was fabulous.
(though admittedly I only stayed through the first act)
A really wonderful modernized, cinematic-like adaptation - with super titles!
The music is, of course, deeevine (looooove some Puccini) ~ and the cast was excellent!
:)

YAY! I am so glad the eve at the opera via the FAC was a success, and I am *still* pouting that I was unable to be there. I am vying to get to TOSCA in November.
Had a lovely trip down south even though at one point we got lost and told, "y'all done gone found yall's in the country, where you from??" Also got a wee bit of, um, shall we say, at least to *this* yankee, revisionist history, and were unable to see the two things we *really* wanted to get to due to timing, so were unable to get more, and perhaps a different version, of the history we were looking for, *sigh*
The best thing was the family reunion. :)
The other best part, though, was, we had a fantastico-fabulomundo RL brunch and afternoon with e and hym!! . :D
Hope everyone is well!

And you are also quite correct, the valley is absolutely beautiful ~ and strange ~ and unique! When did you live here?
mistyblui ~ have a great time if you head out to Ptown. I think next weekend is Women's Week/end? or the end of women's week? Which means that on-season officially becomes off-season. I personally love Ptown in the off-season, but it will be relatively quiet, some of the shops and restaurants will have closed. But accommodations will be cheaper and easily available. Just an FYI.
Ptown is about 3.5 - 4hr. drive from Northampton. (depending on traffic)
Bon Voyage for your trip/adventure. I'm sure some of the lovelies here will meet you up, if you come out to our little corner of Ma.

NORTHAMPTON - The Pleasant Street Theater, Northampton's last remaining venue for first-run movies, will show its last film within the next two months and then close its doors, said its owner yesterday.
Robert Lawton, who owns the business with his wife, Julie, said he is selling the building at 27 Pleasant St. which houses two small theaters.
Lawton declined to say who is buying the building, but said the new owner does not intend to get into the movie business.
"He would be happy to have a movie theater there, but he doesn't want to run it himself," he said.
The Pleasant Street Theater became the city's last in January when the Academy of Music decided to stop showing first-run movies. The latter's trustees said that the cost of keeping the big, century-old theater open for movies outweighed the profits.
The Academy has since formed a partnership with WGBY-TV, Channel 57 in Springfield and come up with a new business model that relies more on live performances and fund raising.
Lawton announced last July that he intended to put the building up for sale. He said at the time that changing technology and competition from the Amherst Cinema Arts Center had cut into his business.
The Pleasant Street Theater has traditionally shown mostly art and independent films, as opposed to Hollywood blockbusters.
Lawton said at the time that he would like to find a nonprofit organization willing to run the theater, but it never panned out.
"A couple of people made offers," he said yesterday. "It didn't work out for one reason or another. No one wants to run a movie theater."
Lawton bought the theater in 2003 from Richard Pini, who started the business with John Morrison 31 years ago. Pini now lives in France, and Morrison lives in California.
In an e-mail to The Republican, Lawton credited his predecessors.
"They started something that was an inspiration to many others around New England to start their own theaters," he wrote. "Not many have been going for 31 years, but we wish lots of good luck to all those struggling to keep their theaters open."
Lawton said he could not give an exact date for the last screening. Films are scheduled at least through early November.
With the closing of the theater, he plans to put more time into his Florence store-gallery-performance space, Artifacts 20th Century.
Despite the business woes, Lawton said that he and his wife are sad about the closing, a sentiment that many of his customers have echoed.

This is truly awful. At the risk of being a movie-theatre hugger, I think it's the result of movieplex-cum-airplane hangars since, what, our area can only sustain one art house?
Noho, free up your spaces! Get rid of indie book stores and art theaters! We need room for law offices and therapist groups! ;)
On the other end of the spectrum, Annie Woodhull and Gordy Thorne, former co-owners of Thorne's, and founders of the A.P.E. space, bought the Zanna building and are turning the ground floor into a performance space called A.P.E. at The Window. (They've named the building "The Window"). If you walk by the building you'll see they've installed a little mini-window peephole so you can see the construction inside. That in itself is performative because you feel like a peeping jane peering into a window through a tiny hole.
One more thing...GET IN YOUR CAR AND RUSH TO SEE a minimalist and demented and really scary (!) performance in French with supertitles of Little Red Riding Hood at 2pm today at the War Memorial in Holyoke. It's not for kids!! (Unless you know a child you'd like to murder by fright.) It's a one-hour performance put on by the deranged MIFA guy.
