Yeah I would have it. I will be 35 this year and I can see changes taking place. I think the only thing that I would have done would be my eyes. Either a brow lift or just have the skin around my eyes nipped and tucked...LoL. And if I continue to lose weight, then later on I would consider have nips and tucks for loose skin and have liposuction. I'm not ashamed to admit that I would have plastic surgery.

I considered a breast lift but after researching it and finding it is painful, I have decided it isn't that important. Who knows? I may change my mind.
At 50 I am happy with my body.

I'm with you, and if not a huge breast reduction would at least help. There's a pretty significant difference in cost between these two. I'd also have a few other procedures done, and very well might... wellllll I'd say most likely will in the near future. The older I get the more concious of my appearance I'm becoming, and quite frankly I don't care who likes or dislikes it. It's my body I get to do whatever I want with it ;)

A lift isnt as bad as a reduction,,I know they gave me some good pain pills when I had my reduction ,and I got a morphine pump while I was in the hospital :)
TopDaddy,,they took 10 lbs off my chest,,believe me,,,I felt so much better with less on top :)

Plastic & reconstructive surgery is not always cosmetic, but my guess is that, that is your question, however, before I was 4 years old I had already had close to 100 plastic surgery's.
I think people should do it if it will help thier own body image, and improve their sense of self.
Most plastic surgery is not terribly painful, and yes, if I could benefit from it I would have it done.
However, the fluff stuff as I call it will not really help me with what I would like to have fixed, and as for "nips & tucks" no Plastic surgeon in his or her right mind would touch me, lol (6)

Luvin, hi... great idea for a thread.
As far my personal opinion, would I consider having plastic surgery? Yep, sure would. Sure have. LOL
My plastic surgery was purely cosmetic and elective in nature. I secretly dreamed about it and toyed with the notion for YEARS before actually giving myself permission to do it. Like most other decisions in my life (major & minor, be that good or bad), I researched all the options available to me, found out as much as I could and then once I was comfortable with my choice just dove in. I have never regretted it either, not for one second.
Would I consider having another procedure in the future? Absolutely. As before, I'd do my homework first then decide how to procede.
Btw... I'd like to add.... I did this solely for ME, no one else. Not society, not my partner, not my family, just ME. Subsequently, I'm the one who benefited the most from my decision/actions and I have peace about it. I am much happier with my outward appearance now and I finally feel like my outside matches my inside. I know that many of you understand what I'm saying, and can relate to it well. I think this is one of many, many reasons I enjoy your friendships so much. You are "real" and I relate to "real" real well, lol.
Plastic surgery is a very personal thing and one that should not be taken lightly by any stretch of the imagination. However, for some of us, there's no doubt that it's the right thing to do.
Smooches and hugs to all of you wonderful people, (l)

I've had cosmetic reconctructive surgery. 2 years ago I have breast augmentation and gender reassignment surgery. Both were steps in my realizing and fully living the life I needed to live as a woman. If somewhere down the line I can afford to, and feel I need any other cosmetic procedures, I have no compunctions about doing so. Whether it's just fluff abd buff stuff or more invasive, I feel anything I want or need that helps me feel better about my appearance is fine.

Hello! This is a great thread! My Mother and I are turning "milestone" ages this year, me 40 and her 60. So we're saving to have surgery done at the same time, with me having a tummy tuck (recent weight loss), and her having a neck lift. We're greatly looking forward to it. I've had to thoroughly do research, as has my Mother. My partner and my Mother's fiance (20 years younger - go mom!) would prefer us to not do the surgeries - but we're forging ahead anyway because it's something we both want for ourselves.
Also, I've worked in cosmetic sales for many years, and I see customers everyday that have had it done, and hear stories everyday of how it's changed their lives for the better (being that it's done for the right reasons - meaning to please yourself and NOT to please someone else).
Best of luck and happy successes to anyone else having a procedure done!

I've decided that I'm going to have a "body lift" after losing 100 lbs. As much as I exercise and eat right, the "flaps" are not going away from the extra skin and I'm really wanting it to all come together.
This will be for me as well. To complete a journey I started 2 years ago. It's time for this chapter in my life to be completed.
Hugs,

It's the best treatment one can do for themselves.... I love the fit in blue jeans with no bulge...I had a lot of problems medically afterwards. But I'd do it all again, without hestitation. I had a bust reduction @35, and my tummy tuck (45) last year - will likely be my last, but the hips might need to be shaved more...so I might do that in a few years. I wouldn't do my face. I have seen those age and they do not look as natural as body lifts and tucks. But yea, its a great method and I'm pleased and proud of my body...

Yeah, I would if I could afford it. Same situation as daddislilegirl. I've already lost a bunch of weight and hope/expect to lose more. The sagging isn't as bad as I feared it would be. I've never been a yoyo dieter. But still, it would be nice get rid of some of this if I could afford to once I've reached my goal.
It feels great to be thinner though. I can do so many more things now. Most of the time, that's reward enough. But I am still self-conscious, and if I could take that way by doing something as easy as surgery (compared to dieting, anyway), it would be worth it.

Well, I haven't had surgery done for the physical changes that WOULD occur, but I had them for medical reasons, and there was a resulting change.
I had severe sinus problems all my life. When my allergist finally diagnosed that I had several major problems in my nasal passages, he recommended that I have nasal/sinus surgery.
With the degree of problems with my septum, they actually had to remove all the lower part of the nasal septum, and graft bone harvested from inside my skull.
The only thing I anticipated was a drop in the number of sinus infections I had, and better breathing capability. Well, about two days after surgery, I looked at myself in the mirror. I screamed, but not from a bad thing. In truth, the revision to my septum left me with my nose turned slightly upward, and cuter, than it had been before.
I confronted my surgeon, and he explained that there was nothing left when he removed the damaged cartillage, and this was an unexpected result, following the graft. Let me say, I was not angry, and I had a big hug for him.
Oh, I should mention, he was recommended by my allergist, BECAUSE he's a facial plastic surgeon, as well as an otolaryngologist, so that I would have minimal scarring and bruising. I love them both, and wouldn't trade them for the world.
I had one other surgery where I had a small cyst removed from my back, and the dermatologist that I consulted with told me that if I had it done by a general surgeon, I would have had a 2-3 inch long, by 1/2 inch wide scar. Well, I consulted with a plastic surgeon for that one, too. I now have a tiny pink spot on my back which is nothing like the one I was headed for.
I say that if you need them, see a plastic surgeon. If it's for your health or just your mental health.

*always the rebel, going against the grain* :P
I have no issue with other people having plastic surgery, but would never have it. Am I happy with all parts of my body? HELL no, lol. But it's who I am and I kinda like it :P I have no fear of aging, I don't shriek in horror at the wrinkles and lines and sags that are appearing...they're just part of getting older in my opinion and hey, getting older is kinda cool :) I have many elderly relatives that just ROCK - strong women, wise women, kind women. I admire them and their age and only hope to look as beautiful when I am 80 as they do :)

For my 50th birthday I am going to get a breast reduction. It will make me feel good about myself to have nice perky breasts again.
I am also going to get a "chin tuck".
I think cosmetic surgery is great for those who are doing for THEMSELVES.
I want to be HOT at age 50, and so thats why I decided on cosmetic surgery as my gift to myself.

The only thing I've ever considered is collagen injections for my lips. I think they're on the thin side and they seem to vanish when I smile, especially the top one. :s I don't know if I'll do it or not.
I'm only 25 and I might consider other things as I get older. I'm not aganist plastic surgery.
Anyone ever had collagen injections? Did it work at all?

I have had several procedures...all necessary but without a doubt...improvements. I have had a tummy tuck (after 2 children...a beautiful thing) and breast implants due to cancer. Having a flat tummy and perky breast ain't so bad.
I LOVE watching those plastic surgery shows on the Discovery channel and am amazed at how wonderufl these people look...the price tag though is wayyyy outta my league.

I've dropped 117.5 pounds with 57 more to go until my personal goal (Doc says 72 more to go). I'm 28 years old and absolutely planning some serious plastic surgery in the next 2 years. Loose skin is an understatement.:|
Abdomenopexy (tummy tuck deluxe where they lace up the muscles of your abdomen like a corset and excise muscle and skin through the middle as well as the flap at the bottom)
Upper thigh lift
Upper arms (brachioplasty I think)
then after all that has been done, breast reduction and lift (because the dang breast surgeons never go small enough "in case you lose weight" I just want to be in proportion after I'm done!!)
And then of course, Laser eye surgery for the -7.5 and -7.75 eyes

I HOPE that I do not inherit my mothers genes when it comes to aging...good gawd! She is a serious tanner and has the skin to go with it :(
I would LOVE to have liposuction though but here the recovery is a real pain in the ass (although I have no fat there ;) ) When I had the tummy tuck they stretched everything so tight that it took me a few months to be able to stand upright but it also eliminated a good bit of that natural curve in my waist. I would love to perhaps redefine that area :)

I would not consider surgery unless it was medically necessary or I needed 'parts replacement.' Ohter than that, it is just not my thing. However, in my extended family, on both sides, I think just about everything has been done.
I do color my hair. That might not be surgical but it is a modification of sort. ;) I have played around with color since I was about 13 and my daughter does the same.
Oh wait .. I would get something done for my eyesight if it got bad, though. I love to read and I don't know what I would do if that was taken away from me.

actually I've had an abdominoplasty and a masteoplexy for the same reason. I lost over a hundred pounds and the loose skin was... em... overwhelming. as the doctor put it "at the age of 26 you have the body of someone who is 86" afterwards my core body strenth was vastly improved.
my tits were amazing! I have pretty damn big ones so I looked like something out of a heavy metal cartoon. I was scolded about not wearing a bra but they just stood out so well on their own and I had never been able to not wear a bra since I first got em. so I went a bit nuts on never wearing one.
I sure wouldn't mind another breast lift... ten years and they've dropped a bit!
I have to say though... it was one of the best things I ever did for myself and my self esteem. losing all that weight to look "pretty" and then suddenly you have skin on your stomach you can tuck into your pants.... and at the age of 26...
I'm all for plastic surgery. Over a certain age. I don't think 18 year old gals should be getting silicon implants. over 21 sure. but not teenagers.

To all of you who have lost weight well done, it's hard, I lost 70 lb, and felt FAB, then grdually put 28 back on, I'm sort of OK with it, the lust of a good butch helps;) if I was to have surgery, I'd have my neck done first, I'm 51 soon, and feel good about my face, apart from that.
Tummy tuck, lipo on my upper arms, I like my ass, ( as does my butch) maybe a litle botox on the eyes, and a lip collagen injection.

I went to see about having my eyes lasered, unfortunately they turned me down, I have a Stigmatism, (ie, an oval shaped eyeball, as opposed to round, and here in the UK they cannot operate. I was gutted.
I also have a blood clotting disorder, and need to have a coagulant if I have an op, or dental work, so I don't think the cosmetic surgeons would touch me.:(

For me I have had a breast reduction,,best thing I ever did! It was for medical reasons but its still plastic surgery..Ive also had a weight reduction surgery and I might have a few nips and tucks here and there to get rid of loose skin,,
what about you?
would you consider haveing plastic surgery? (h)

Luvin..you know me.....
I have gone under January and May of this year. I never considered it until I saw a picture that was taken of me and changed the way felt about "Plastic Surgery".
I love my surgeon. He was very honest with me from day one. He let me know what I could have controlled and what is beyond exercise at this point.
I would do it all again in a heart beat. My insurance covered part of my first procedure (tummy tuck) but I had to pay the remainder (a little over 3,500). The procedure I had done in May was out of pocket because it was aesthetic surgery. I plan on one more procedure in Jan 2007 once I see the results of the two surgeries (healing about a year).

i had a reduction 3 years ago...being a butch with an f cup just didn't do it for me. now i'm a b....that was the single best thing i have ever done for myself. At first i was kinda freaked out about the whole idea so i had to just not think about it and sorta put it out of my mind, i kinda went into a vacant trance because overall i knew i would be much happier and have far less back problems and feel more right in my body.
I actually gained nipple sensation which my doc said was extremely rare...
because i was so big to begin with, for myself i considered it top surgery...now i just have perky little moobs...smaller than some bio guys i know even...

I voted "no". To each her own, but...lots of times people don't take time to consider that the surgeon might "botch" things up (this happens more than one would think), leaving one to pine for their old face (buns, knee junk, whatever). Folks who have face-lifts, etc. are really not fooling anybody anyway. I remember Liv Ullman saying in an interview a few years back that she would not have plastic surgery (and this from quite a beauty!), that she wanted to see the face god intended for her to have when she is older. I guess that's how I feel about my own face (buns, knee junk, whatever). [This is my own opinion concerning my own face, buns and knee junk and is certainly not a judgement call for those who do desire body modification]

I went to see about having my eyes lasered, unfortunately they turned me down, I have a Stigmatism, (ie, an oval shaped eyeball, as opposed to round, and here in the UK they cannot operate. I was gutted.
I also have a blood clotting disorder, and need to have a coagulant if I have an op, or dental work, so I don't think the cosmetic surgeons would touch me.:(
Since this post, I actually saw an "Extreme Makover" show that featured laser eye surgery on an astigmatism, so I checked it out, and had it done, the results were really good, although because of my age ( 52) I still need reading glasses, but not always, depends on the size/type of text, etc;
I certainly see better than I did , and am happy with the results.( £ 3000, later)
Next I would like the Tummy tuck,

when I get done with the weightloss with my band my insurance will cover the tummy tuck :) I wanna get my chin done tho next year :)
I have lost 94 pounds to date, 30 preop and 64 since my surgery this past May and from what I have been told.... my insurance will not cover any plastic surgery unless medically necessary *pouts* so for right now I am doing the swoop and scoop into my bra and the tuck and roll into my pants *smiles* But it is something I would do again, feeling wonderful and doing things I was beginning to think I would never do again. Hopefully when the time comes and the weight loss evens out I can get my doctor to say it is medically necessary *shrugs* All I think I would do is my breasts and tummy.

I would say that I'd never get extreme about plastic surgery, but I'm not staunchly opposed to the idea of it, either. Never say never, but consider and weigh all your options is my feeling.
I've always been very sports minded and I realize I may not be capable of doing what I can do now thirty years down the road, but I am a firm believer in doing what you can/what permits at the time physically and if you can push yourself and know when to stop, then you're safe. Walking has proved to be the best exercise. Everyone has their own reasons and everyones individual experiences are valid.
I'm lucky that I have CHOICE available in my life, I see people who age and aren't concerned with plastic surgery and I see people who definitely want it for their reasons.
It'd be nice to get rid of the bags under my eyes (chronic since I was a kid), but I'll stick with plain skin-matching concealer for now.
The one thing I can saw now that I'd consider surgery or something cosmetic for would be for spider veins. I think they'd be gross on me. I hope I don't get them.
The other thing I'd consider is having my "hump" below my shoulders removed. I was told that this could be a lipoma and would have to be sliced off surgically. However, I'm always working and I take very little time off and am going back to school for my career path development, so that's not something to worry about tomorrow.

Depending on how far the skin hangs and what it does to the skin underneath... that might be an option as well. One of my best friends is a plastic surgeon and has performed a few surgeries on folks who lost a lot of weight and developed serious skin irritations.

One of the surgeons that I work with, does the By-Pass surgeries, and will later do the Panniculectomy at a reduced rate. The plastic surgeon that I scrub with does a true abdominoplasty. I love doing plastic surgery, for I know how happy the outcome will be for that person, and their self-esteem.

I'm all for plastic surgery if it helps someone's self esteem. Here in Vegas I think there are only 13 women left who haven't gotten their breasts done! LOL. My ex got hers done. She went from about A/B- to between D and DD. HOLY CRAP!!!!! WHOA!!!!!
Seriously, my wrinkles are coming out. I have crow's feet, forehead lines, and a deep worry wrinkle on the upper bridge of my nose. I guess the years of abusing my skin are starting to catch up with me. I finally went out and bought some wrinkle cream, but I think it may be too late. Plastic surgery might be in my future...

Also I haven't reached 30 yet and I have loads of wrinkles but I like to think of them as a visible guage of how much I've laughed! They're all laughing and smiling wrinkles. This may sound weird, but I always wished there was a way to take some fat out of my (size 20-ish) hips/thighs and put it in my (40D) breasts. I'd feel much more proportionate that way. It seems like for someone with a bottom half like mine, I should be a couple of cup sizes bigger!! :o
I don't think I'd end up doing it, though...for me, there is something so precious about individual bodies, as they are. I certainly understand people who have plastic surgery to match their "outsides with their insides." To me that's a different kinda' thing. :)

Omg, this morning i was watching a documentary " Sex Change " that we had taped some time ago. When i saw how this one transwoman found a surgeon who could totally feminize her facial features ...wowwwwwwwww !
Let me say, if i had the means, i'd have it done in a nanno second. It involved, shaving of the brow bones, shortening and making the jawbone look smaller and more feminine plus a cool nose job and pulling down the hairline. Sounds like a lot but yes i would do be feel better.

I'm 51 (will be 52 this July) and soon too have a breast reduction. I've been pretty big most of my life--started out a 38C cup, and over the years have grown to a 46H!! The older I get the harder it gets to carry around these HUGE boobs. The only thing standing in my way right now is sleep apnea. I already had a sleep study done in February but they decided that I need ANOTHER one, this time using a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine that forces air into your nose as you sleep to open up the upper part of your throat, which in sleep apnea is usually obstructed to some degree. My apnea is a mild form, thank God. But my chosen plastic surgeon wants to treat me as an outpatient so she is concerned about the after effects of the anesthesia after I'm sent home. So I'm waiting for another overnight sleep study to be scheduled. I can barely wait to get this surgery done!!!! My Partner of 12 years, an LPN, is helping me get this paid for. We will have to apply for financing through the surgeon's office (she uses Care Credit, but other doctors often use multiple finance companies, and if Care Credit turns us down my Partner has Capital One). I'm currently unemployed with no health insurance. When I need medical care, the state of Colorado has a program called Colorado Indigent Care Program, with which I am enrolled and have been for a year now. My PCP is a member of this program....Anyway, wish me luck that the next sleep study happens SOON and it goes well.

Hey Luvin. So you stayed overnight with your surgery? Was it an issue like mine (this sleep apnea thing)? I just completed my second, and hopefully FINAL, sleep study last Thursday night. The CPAP nose mask was really uncomfortable--felt like I had a bird's beak!! When I opened my mouth air burst out. My sleep tech, Amy, explained that the machine worked by taking regular room air, filtering it through a hose, and adding some pressure to it that pushes down on the back of the tongue, forcing the tongue down and slightly forward to better clear the airway. My Partner, who's an LPN, said that at her job when they use a CPAP it's usually connected up to oxygen. I'm not sure why mine was not. Anyway I'm glad it's overwith!!
You had drains? My surgeon didn't mention those. Maybe she's waiting for my pre-op appointment to tell me...which, BTW, is scheduled for April 2. I now have a DEFINITE surgery date: April 11th, at 11:00 in the morning. :D :D There is one problem though. The credit company that my surgeon uses, Care Credit, turned me down. So my Partner and I are exploring other options. She has a Capital One credit card and lately they have been sending her letters wanting to loan her money for a new car. So obviously they are willing to loan her money (no doubt at a higher rate). We'll see. I can't get a loan on my own.
A morphine pump?!! Jeez, just how much pain IS there after the surgery? I've done some research on this and, from what I gather, it depends on the individual. Not that I'm against using morphine ;) ;) Also thanks for the tips on dealing with the scars. I'll bear that in mind. (y)

My Partner has Capital One credit card and they have healthcare financing. They've been bugging her through the mail to borrow money (for a new car). I searched their website and they have pages and pages of doctors listed that use their credit system. I found one (another female naturally) who is a board-certified plastic surgeon here in Denver. I perused her website and she looks like a good prospect. Her staff are all-female too. I refuse to deal with male plastic surgeons due to one being a REAL A**HOLE to me!! Men won't listen, and they don't like you questioning or rejecting their assessments or opinions. Who needs THAT?!!
The woman's name,BTW, is Dr.Lisa Hunsicker. Young, great credentials, attractive;) ;) ;) uh, great credentials...(a) (a)

ok I thought Id start this and see what peoples opinions are,,as people get older its common for people to have a few nips and tucks here and there. What do you think of plastic surgery and would you do it?
For me I have had a breast reduction,,best thing I ever did! It was for medical reasons but its still plastic surgery..Ive also had a weight reduction surgery and I might have a few nips and tucks here and there to get rid of loose skin,,
what about you?
would you consider haveing plastic surgery? (h)
note:: for those who read this threads,,please vote on the poll anyways even if your dont post :)
I've had a breast reducion too,but I was told it wasn't considered plastic because, it wasn't for cosmetic reasons/ nothing was going in and because it was for "health reasons". Insurance companies don't normally pay for cosmetic procedures, so my doctor explained that that's one way to tell if it's plastic or not.
I think that there are more important things in life than looking like you're 20 the whole time. i think it's interesting how our bodies change as we age, I think we should be proud of the skin that we're in and not be ashamed of the sagging skin or scars or whatever that "blemish" it. So no, when I get older I highly doubt I will waste my money on getting nips and tucks and all that. I could use that money to travel somewhere or do something more interesting than have someone rip my skin away from the bone and then pull on it.
I think that there is another reason behind my belief though, because I don't have to worry about it much. My family ages well, my mom is in her late 50s and looks like early-mid 40s, grandma is 80 and looks like she's in her 60s. She never wears/wore sunblock and grew up in the harsh Jamaican sun, yet her skin doesn't show it,because...
black doesn't crack!:D

[COLOR="Teal"]That is why my insurance paid for mine,it was done for medical reason's..the dr was a plastic surgeon...I dont think my general practitioner knows how to do this,,but,,,
I know I will be in about a year due to have some body contouring due to weightloss,,one of the procedures will be covered my my insurance,,the other work they will pay partially for

What did one saggy boob say to the other?
If we don't get some support soon, people will think we're nuts...
Ah, to have nice titties, high and tight again. Wait...my titties were never high and tight. But they might be one day...

I voted and my vote was “Oh no no no” – well almost. It was “No, I wouldn’t” but the “oh no no no” seems more clearer ~smile~.
I adore the way I am aging: Laugh lines around my ocean blue eyes to show I love life to the fullest; little lines around the contours of my lips to show I love to pucker for fun or a kiss; slightly tanned body skin hinting at the constant battle of refusing to go outdoors and only succeeding half the time; the little brown spots here and there that speak of living 42 years; the seasoned marks of my hands telling stories of holding, caressing, playing and oh I do not know, getting into numerous delectable scenarios without gloves .. and the list goes on.
In the famous words of somebody: I am “Aging Like Fine Wine” and there is just nothing better than fine wine with some cheese, grapes and french bread .. and it does not go well with Botox or some scalpel.

Since we do not all age like fine wine ( although i do love the stuff, hehheh );) , i have opted for the , ewwww, scalpel. I have an appointment with a surgeon for a consult at the end of the month. I,m talking facial surgery, nose job and more.
Why would i want to put myself through all this is simple; to feel better about myself. And that is the bottom line, without excuses or justifications. I do not like the age lines or the saggy skin, or my now droopping nose and eyelids or double chin. If i had a face that simply aged without a whole bunch of distortions to it then maybe i too would be glad to accept it as is.
I do not feel like one option is better than the other and to do so only invalidates and oppresses. I am aware of the dangers that surgery involves and will do all that is within my ability to be responsible for a positive outcome. So, i salute all of you who have no need for surgery and nod in understanding to those who feel it,s need.

It's been a couple of weeks since my last post, and my situation hasn't improved. Now the breast reduction is only going to happen if my PCP can get me covered under the CICP (or Colorado Indigent Care Program). Otherwise it will just have to wait until I either can get health insurance or save up the money...or this country gets Universal Health Care. Yeah right. It's getting harder to stay positive about anything.

I went to see about having my eyes lasered, unfortunately they turned me down, I have a Stigmatism, (ie, an oval shaped eyeball, as opposed to round, and here in the UK they cannot operate. I was gutted.
I also have a blood clotting disorder, and need to have a coagulant if I have an op, or dental work, so I don't think the cosmetic surgeons would touch me.:(
Update on the laser treatment,
since this, (4yrs ago) technology has improved , I had laser surgery last February, and my eyesight is dramatically improved, although because of my advanced age,:$ I still need reading glasses for really close work, I'm very pleased with the results.:D

It's not my Filipino family's value or belief to obtain plastic surgery or any of the kind. My entire family (extended and nuclear) has always been a matriarchy, which I am very proud of, and I have been told that it is healthy to "just be yourself" and to find meaning and grace in growing older. Elderly women or mature women are respected in the Philippines.

Hehheh, ok maybe i'm not getting it or something but one certainly doesn't need to come from a matriarchal family unit in order to respect elderly and mature women, wtf?
We should not read that women who have recourse to cosmetic surgery are not respecting their bodies or are not * just being themselves *. I understand that you may be coming from a certain tradition and i do respect that as i would hope to be respected for my choices and not judged because of them. If you want to age from a certain perspective, it is your right.
I know i am aging with all the grace and composure possible and even though i have had and will have more cosmetic surgeries, i am discovering much meaning to my life and experiences as a woman. I respect my choices and decisions as emanating from me and not because of any societal or peer pressure.

lol 50 here, and this is how I feel as well
It's cool for those who feel a real need for it, but I like my wrinkles, I like my grey, I have no need to enhance or detract from the shape my body is in and so I leave me as I am. :D
Interesting to see though all the different thoughts about this topic.
I feel like I have earned every wrinkle and grey hair although I do cover my grey's

I just read this entire thread and have found it very interesting - for both personal and professional reasons.
I don't really consider my top surgery "cosmetic" surgery - but I guess it is. I plan on having a tummy tuck by the end of the year and may or may not get an arm lift done as well - depending on what they look like when I hit my weight goal (for a total of about 130lbs gone)
I've always been the fat kid. I have always limited my activities not because of not being able to perform them but because of what I looked like doing them. I hit a point about three years ago when I was just tired of it - and I started doing something about it. I'm going to be 30yrs old next year and I just want to experience EVERYTHING in my 30s - and that includes being the athletic person I've always been - just with less talk and more walk.
Having the tummy tuck is kinda of like the grand finale to this particular journey. I will always have to watch what I eat and keep myself in check - I'm not trying to kid myself. But no matter what I do or how much weight I lose I will always have that excess skin - and I don't want it. I've lived with it my entire life. No more.
I kinda feel a little brainwashed where cosmetic surgery is concerned. I work in the field and it's become such a part of my life that it's not some big huge decision that I have to make. It's kinda like "hey, I'm going to book myself when I'm ready, ok?" and the boss says "sure". LOL I'm pretty proud of myself for waiting until the optimal moment instead of jumping to have it done. Not only will the result be better but I think I'll be less likely to take it for granted - because I DID work for the body I have now. I just needed a lil help in the bottom of the ninth.

If my breasts were keeping my kness company then I think I would have them lifted back into place. If I was starting to look jaded and tired even though I felt vibrant and full of life, then I would have botox/restylane or and eyebrow lift. I wouldn't have anything too invasive: face life - implants. I don't forsee any of that happening for quite some time! Yay!!

Definitely - I had the girls tuned up when I was sixteen - a reduction - and would not hesitate to do it again as I age. After two kids, I also want a tummy tuck, and after having my nose broken more times than I can count, I'd like rhinoplasty to fix my deviated septum. Its just a tiny bit crooked, but I see it - and I want ME to be beautiful...to ME. Does that make sense?

But i am almost half cherokee for reals and a mixture of irish and everything else!
Cherokee women grow older very well altho i do have a few wrinkles at 51 who doesn't...I may consider it at 80 but not right now, I kinda like seeing the wisdom of my years on my face to me it should be an automatic age of respect but alas that doesn't hold true today! My mom said one time i also have african american heritage in me somewhere along the way, perhaps evidenced by my love for african culture and especially african dance! talent beyond measure !!!!!!
as a note on the whole i'm just me so i will continue growing old as gracefully as possibly until the end at which time i am gonna go out screaming!!!!!

I will be getting a breast reduction as soon as I can afford it. I don't have health insurance right now, so it's a ways down the road. When I did have health insurance, they still effing refused to cover it because it's cosmetic surgery. Then they'd refer me to a back doctor for my back issues who would say "part of your problems are your large breasts. They're too big for your frame!" He gave me exercises (which have improved things a bit) but the most recent x rays of my back (taken after a car accident a few months ago) show while the arthritis eating my upper spine has slowed down (via better nutrition and exercise) it's still going on. Once again, as an aside, a breast reduction was recommended. But I have a feeling that even if I could qualify for the state healthcare system (I'm officially below the poverty level, yet I still make too much $$$ for the state system. :| ) I don't think they'd do it either.
I have been losing some weight, so I have some saggage too, and sometime, I probably will get a tuck. I read somewhere that if you agree to be a skin donor (and are in good enough health and stuff to be one) that many hospitals will help cover the surgical costs. I'll have to look into that when the time comes.

In regard to the donation of excess skin, I think it's fabulous, especially considering the success thus far of the first American facial transplant. Excess skin could be used for skin grafts and reconstruction. What a wonderful gift, whether one is paid or not.
