Hello there MntnFemme! Yes, there are lots of us in Colorado. There is a butch femme yahoo group too, even though it's hard to get everyone in one place at the same time. We used to meet for dinner and dancing at least once a month. I think someone might be trying to get another dinner organized for April. I don't know how to post the link for it, if you are interested, but I'm sure that someone else will come along and give you the information. I live in Arvada with my partner, by the way.

I'm in the Foothills, just north of Denver.

Every First Friday of the month, a group called BAD (Babes Around Denver) hosts a huge event -- typically well over 500 butches, femmes, and other queer women (their web site puts the number as high as 900+).

Over the last several months, the venue they've chosen has been Mile High Station, which has terrible acoustics, and no real dance floor. The DJs aren't great, either, in my estimation . . . but there are hundreds of other femmes and butches who seemingly disagree, so take my comments with a grain of salt ;)

Fortunately, BAD does change First Friday venues, over time.

The local internet site is cafevivid.com, which provides listings of events; links to queer clubs and other venues throughout the state; and free personal ads. Caveat: some clubs don't keep their listings updated; it's best to call first, to find out whether what you want is going to be happening.

For people of color, I recommend Tracks in Denver (http://www.tracksdenver.com/) on Friday nights (called "Cream Fridays," beginning October 28th).

A huge victory for the GLBT community in Colorado, the Senate passed House Bill 1344 in a bi-partisan vote in favor!!

It's an exciting day for all same sex couples in this state who want the rights and protection provided under Domestic Partnership. No, it isn't legalized marriage but it's a damn sight better than what we have now, which is nothing!

Now it is up to the people of Colorado to vote YES on REFERENDUM F. If you've never voted before please register to vote and be there on election day, your community needs you now more than ever! And if you are a voter, please educate yourself on Referendum F. Tell your friends and family to vote yes. Come help us educate the people of Colorado by volunteering at Coloradans for Fairness and Equality.

http://www.fairnessandequality.org/

I've been writing to all the Senators that voted in favor of House Bill 1344 and writing nasty emails to the people who voted against it, especially the Democrats and the ones who fought hard against it on the Senate floor siting Scripture of all things!

ps... I wonder how insulting it is to call a Senator "Representative" by mistake?? :$ :s

RALLY! RALLY! RALLY!

Join CFE and the GLBT Community Center of Colorado for a rally afterwards on May 20th from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. Meet on the West Steps of the Colorado State Capitol Building, where Gov. Romer will address the crowd. Bring signs, pride symbols, and Colorado and American flags to commemorate this historic event!
What was Amendment 2, and Why is it Important?

Amendment 2, an amendment to the Colorado Constitution, was passed by voters in 1992. It would have prevented the state or any government entity in Colorado from passing laws giving basic civil rights to citizens based on sexual orientation.
The Colorado Legal Initiatives Project (CLIP) was formed to mount the legal challenge to Amendment 2, which culminated in the United States Supreme Court decision in the case of Romer v. Evans.
On May 20, 1996, the Court issued its opinion holding that Amendment 2 violated the equal protection clause of the U.S. Constitution.
That decision is a landmark in the struggle for GLBT civil rights in this country.
CLIP is now a program of The GLBT Center of Colorado.

3 things YOU can do to help pass Domestic Partnerships in Colorado.

1. Petition Circulators Urgently Needed!
The Domestic Partnership Amendment is a citizens’ initiative that would amend the Colorado Constitution to ensure that domestic partnerships are established in state law. This amendment will only appear on the November ballot if we are successful in collecting at least 68,000 signatures of registered voters in Colorado before the August deadline. To ensure that we meet our goal of 100,000 signatures by July 21, 2006, we need your help!

Although the Domestic Partnership referendum is already on the November ballot, we must petition the Domestic Partnership Amendment onto the ballot as well. A group of extremist individuals has proposed an initiative for a constitutional amendment that would, in their view, ban domestic partnerships. The Domestic Partnership Amendment trumps this extreme initiative. It’s your insurance policy to make sure that your vote for domestic partnerships counts.

Circulating a petition is fun and easy! We will provide you with simple instructions on how to properly collect signatures, and talking points to help you explain the issue to Colorado voters. You can collect signatures from your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.

Sign up TODAY! http://www.fairnessandequality.org/ (http://www.fairnessandequality.org/site/R?i=E01J_7oJu--7vf6ukJA-eQ..)petitions (http://www.fairnessandequality.org/site/R?i=E01J_7oJu--7vf6ukJA-eQ..)

2. Start Your Own Personal Page!
Starting a Personal Page is a great way to connect your friends, co-workers, family and others to the Campaign. Adding your own story, goal and photos make it all your own! With a little time commitment and an easy set up this is a great and effective tool. Add your e-mail lists at the click of a mouse and send a sample letter and follow up thank you note. Contact people inside and outside Colorado to help build massive support for the mission of CFE

3. Donate Today!
June 28th is the end of our reporting period and we need your financial support. Your gift is crucial to our ability to spread the word about the common-sense referendum to enact domestic partnerships in Colorado. Our opponents are extremely well funded and are backed by national organizations that are determined to deny same-sex couples the fundamental fairness they deserve. Your personal commitment is helping to keep us one step ahead!
With the opening of five offices statewide at the start of this month and the kickoff of our petition drive, Coloradans for Fairness and Equality Action has never been more active and accessible. The deadline is quickly approaching. Please donate now via the newly revamped Coloradans for Fairness and Equality Action website.

Hello all,

Paula is very correct. There is a butch/femme group with lots of good people located at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Butch_Femme_Colorado . Like any other group it goes through dynamic changes with active and quiet months. However it is truly a wonderful group!!!

B.A.D. is ok as a good monthly social lesbian venue, but not strictly butch/femme. I think just about everybody (month to month) is represented there, which is nice to see. And with the mentioned downsides of The Mile High Station I can vouch for it as my favorite place because I am a non-smoker. It was a lot of fun the few times I went.

If so, thank you for the best wishes, but 8 months after her proposal in front of the Mormon Temple, H told me this weekend that she is no longer in love with me. She has moved out of our house and is living with some friends.

We started having problems a few months ago when she admitted to lying to me about wanting to have children but we did try to get past that and I thought we were making progress, until she moved out again a few weeks ago.

She came home but obviously, she was already done with us. The sad thing is - I didn't do anything wrong. Sometimes people just stop loving you, no matter how good you are to them. (u)

Not that anyone reads the Colorado threads, but I wanted to say that unfortunately, we had a lot of problems at the polls. Computer crashes and other delays forced thousands of voters to wait in line for 3 hours or more. Some waited in line until nearly midnight last night when the polls were supposed to close at 7pm. Many people just left without voting.
H and I watched the results at the democratic headquarters downtown. There were moments of hope, but by 10pm it was time to get the baby home. We watched our slight lead disappear in many cases but were victorious by winning the governors race.

So the vote count still isn't final but it appears the good people of Colorado harbor a lot of hate in their hearts and have decided to amend the state constitution to ban gay marriages and do not want gay couples to have any rights.
The vote count is still not final but the probability is extremely low that we could gain enough votes at this point to change the vote. It's a sad sad day for the GLBT community in Colorado. (u)

I'm going to Colorado!!!
(ap)
I am currently working on booking gigs and a house concert, or two, for my partner, Nedra Johnson. We should be in Denver, as well as local areas, for sometime in July... if that doesn't work out, then we'll be there in September.
I would love to meet as many bf'ers as possible! I could also use some suggestions for g&l friendly places where she can perform at. If anyone knows someone, or wants to host a house concert, please post, or contact me directly. I am just learning the ropes as far as booking venues is concerned, and one of my challenges when researching places, is whether or not the audience can relate. Nedra is out as a lesbian and as a boi/y in her music, so I wouldn't want to book her in an area where there is no tolerance for that.
I have some places in mind, and I have one main contact, who is not on this site.. at least I don't think so. Her name is Joy, maybe you know her.. or maybe you know 10 Joy's? lol. I wouldn't want to devulge her personal info.
:-*
So what do bf'ers like to do during July in Colorado?

:)
Big Love,
Natasha

I have some connections with a gal who books bands here. I'll see what she thinks. She's very open and would know good and bad on the gender issue.

We appreciate any and all kinds of help =)
Just an FYI: Nedra will be performing mostly solo acoustic gigs... some that she might play a back track to.

What is Dining Out for Life?

Dining Out For Life® is an annual fundraising event involving the generous participation
of volunteers, corporate sponsors and restaurants. In exchange for their financial support,
restaurants are listed in a city wide marketing campaign in an effort to increase customer traffic.

In 1991 Dining Out For Life® was created by an ActionAIDS volunteer in Philadelphia. In
1993, ActionAIDS made it an international event offering licenses to AIDS Service
Organizations around the country. Since Dining Out for Life International's founding the
event has grown throughout North America and is now produced in over 33 cities.

The Board of Dining Out For Life® is constantly working to expand the number of
licenses around the country, as well as to gain sponsorships that benefit the entire
country. On average two to three cities a year are being added.

More than 2,500 restaurants a year donate a portion of their proceeds from this one
special night of dining to the licensed agency in their city. Over $2 million dollars a year is
raised to support the missions of agencies throughout North America. With the exception
of the annual licensing fee of $600, all money raised in these cities stays there.

THANK YOU!!!
