she is most familiar with firsthand: Portland!
"Plans for this gathering got under way as early
as November 2001. Forum nerd Nevyn built a webpage with
info on the plans and over 40 people ended up coming.
This gathering was organized by Chava, and with the
financial backing of JP, Kai & Duece... Chava and
her forces were able to pull off a really special weekend!
The Portland gathering took place at the Kennedy School,
an historic hotel located in what originally was an
elementary school. The rooms were made from converted
classrooms, each with a chalkboard or two. Some had
cloakrooms. All were charmingly furnished with pieces
reminiscent of the 1920s vintage of the building itself.
About half the people attending the gathering were staying
at the Kennedy School. Most people arrived on Friday,
so there were scattered dinner parties all over town
that night, but the Friday Night "ice breaker"
at the Egyptian Room proved to be quite the magnet for
everyone to have their initial meeting. Going totally
from memory here, I recall seeing: Daphne, SeattleStyle,
Sweetpeasub, Mia, BigPervyRob, Rian, Kai & Duece,
Jonathan, bull dog, gemmie & rocket, Chava, kjdisko,
andrea, Shy1, FemmeBabyGirl, Melen & Matt. I know
there were other people there, and I apologize to them
for being a cretin. LOL
 On
Saturday morning, several of us who were staying at
the Kennedy School had breakfast together - Jonathan,
bull dog, Kai & Duece, goodboi & Tobatia, and
myself. Saturday afternoon was spent at various activities.
Some of the locals arrived at the hotel, and there were
trips to the Saturday Market downtown and a group soak
in the heated soaking pool. Then as late afternoon arrived,
the butches repaired to the hotel bar to sample the
various brands of beer, while the femmes repaired to
my room for primping, dressing, and "talkin' about
bois!" :
The Saturday night gathering, which drew about 40 guests,
was a blast! Hank, Poet, and a host of locals and Seattle
folk including Lorbear, Cara, Ash & Mudwrestler,
and a tableful of Butch-Femme.com PNW
FABU list members showed up to party with us. It
was wall-to-wall bois in suave suit jackets and femmes
in full diva gear!
 We
had a lovely dinner, then dancing and socializing. The
lovely Tobatia was crowned Queen of the gathering, with
special mention going to Chava, who'd put together an
evening of such elegance and enchantment. The "after-party"
broke into two groups: the ones at the other end of
the hotel and the ones at my end. LOL Kai & Duece's
room was party turf for us … I'm not sure whose
room at the other end of the hotel was action central.
Sunday morning, many people who'd attended the night
before showed up for a farewell brunch at the Kennedy
School before the inevitable goodbyes began. I know
that for many of us, it was heartening to see the event
come off so well. The fun we had there has touched off
quite a lot of interest in similar gatherings elsewhere.
It was a very special weekend."
